Volunteers are needed for the annual Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Cleanup on Wednesday, July 11 from 5-8pm. The cleanup will be based out of Downs' Marina in Griffin Park in Pierre. This will be the 9th river cleanup in the last ten years in the Pierre-Ft. Pierre Area. Teams of volunteers, both in boats and in land-based crews, will pick up litter and debris along the river. The collected trash will be brought to Down's Marina where it will be sorted and then properly disposed of by the City of Pierre. Since the cleanup began in 2009, over 17.7 tons of trash has been collected by over 500 volunteers from upper Lake Sharpe. This event provides an opportunity for pople to give somethin back to a resource that means so much to the quality of life in central South Dakota. Volunteer help is the key for the success of this event. Volunteers must wear closed toed footwear and are asked to bring sunscreen and sunglasses. Boats and pontoons are also needed to assist in this year's cleaup. The Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Cleanup is a coordinated effort between the Central South Dakota Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited, the Pierre Chpter of the Izaak Walton League, South Dakota Game, Fishand Parks, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, theSD Department of Corrections and the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre. Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, "Guys and Dolls" is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown, as a result. "Guys and Dolls" takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. "Guys and Dolls" is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
