THE NEW DICE MONITOR

July 2023 EDITION

My Vision

Generative Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and the Future of Monitoring

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a buzzword today, but it means very different things to different people and industries. Those not from our industry think of AI as Chat GPT.

For many in the security industry, AI means object detection, facial recognition, loitering, and many other types of video analytics. But in fact, it is way more than that.

DICE 2030 and Artificial Intelligence

But more changes are coming. I have shared about DICE 2030 and our vision for the fuure. This is big part of that vision.

DICE was the first to provide the industry with a cloud solution, geographical redundancy, and disaster recovery. Now we are leading in providing central stations with Artificial Intelligence, it is called generative AI/Machine Learning. This is now in development.

Generative artificial intelligence is artificial intelligence capable of generating text, images, or other media in response to prompts. It promises to deliver better recommendations and more relevant results.

Generative AI lnguages learn the patterns and structure of their input training data by applying neural network machine learning techniques, and then generate new data that has similar characteristics.

There are new types of chips being developed that in the next couple of years will affect not only our industry, but almost every part of our lives. This is the reason that all the large companies including Facebook, Google, Amazon, and others are investing billions of dollars in the development of AI technologies. This will change the world and it’s already happening.

AI, Monitoring Centers, and the Future

Let me now share my vision of how AI will affect and change central stations. In future columns, we will delve into how it will affect integrators and end users.

As we know today, dispatchers handle signals ranging from alarm, video, access control, PERS and much more.

The Quantum Dispatcher and Live Operators

When it comes to AI, the question is what is the difference between a person and a smart machine? A person can observe things, talk to customers, make decisions based on what they understand, follow processes, and then take action.

The new AI that is coming, and that DICE is developing, will change the industry. We call it a quantum dispatcher or operator, which will be able to do most of what a human dispatcher can do now.

How? The quantum operator will "sit" side by side with human operators, learn, and then be capable of doing everything that the live operator can do. That is what I shared before, which is called, neural network machine learning.

Now, imagine that you take not one quantum operator connected to one human operator, but 100, 1,000, or even 10,000. You now have a new level of quantum operator across the board that have the knowledge of many human operators.

A New Generation of Monitoring

The result of what I just described is that we will have a new generation of smart AI quantum machine operators to do what human operators can do today. Many of the activities that operators are doing today, will be done in the future by these quantum operators, which will free up a lot of time for human operators to handle other more important tasks.

Human interaction will be on different level and the job description of what operator is doing will change. The quantum operator and the live operator will work together as a team.

Is it the Quantum Dispatcher or the Human?

With the development of generative AI technologies, we're looking at the capability of the quantum operator to talk, to listen, to have the right accents, and to even have a sense of humor. In fact, you will find it hard to know whether you are talking with a machine or a person.

We already have some of the pieces to this puzzle available and more will be released during 2024. I'm inviting companies to connect with us and be part of this journey to the future.

We Are the First and Only...

ULC Data Centers in Canada!

Big news for monitoring companies on both sides of the border. DICE's two data center are now ULC compliant!

Did you know that in the United States, UL did not have a hosting standard and they based and built the UL 827 standard on our data centers?

As Canadian companies began hosting at DICE, they began pushing to use the UL standard that we had in the U.S., but Canada wanted their own standard.

Canada then took on the effort of building their own hosting standard and again used DICE to develop the ULC standard. Even though they based the new standard on our data centers, we had to make a lot of changes, which took about two years. We spent quite a bit of time and money, but what helped is the fact that our sister company, IPtelX is a registered Canadian carrier and ISP provider.

To develop the ULC standard, they looked at every detail including how the building is built, how the fire suppression systems work, redundancy, the procedures that are in place, including backups, failovers, power and infrastructure networks, telecom, receiver management, software management, and the disaster plans we have in place.

Now a central station that has dealers in Canada and the United States can be hosted in our centers and operate in both countries simultaneously. We're the only one. Give us a call to see how we can cut your costs and help you to be ULC Listed.

Dealers: Worried that your Central Station is not keeping up with latest technologies?

Central Stations: Worried that your automation software company is not keeping up with latest fast moving technologies?

How does your current automation software compare with Matrix? Are you satisfied with the service and support? Are they keeping up with all the technological advances?

Dealers: Does your central station have the latest software and are they keeping up with all the technological advances?

There are far less providers today due to acquisitions and changes in the industry and most are behind, or resource strapped. But one company has stood the test of time for over 35 years and continues to stay ahead of future technologies.

DICE Corporation… now the New DICE, a software AND infrastructure company.
