SOLSTICE Call for Artists 


Solstice invites artists of all kinds to paint a mini-elephant sculpture as part of the BIGGEST Little Elephant Parade™, a joyful community art project connected to the internationally acclaimed Elephant Parade™. Painted elephants will be showcased, shared widely, and auctioned in Spring 2026, with the winning artist earning the opportunity to paint a full-sized elephant, receive a stipend, and gain international recognition.

This Valentine's Day, celebrate the people who make our libraries welcoming for everyone by sharing why you love the Santa Barbara Public Library! From February 1 through February 14, Valentine-themed collection boxes will be placed at participating local businesses and schools throughout Santa Barbara. At each location, pre-printed postcards with thoughtful prompts will be available to make writing a valentine message to the library easy and accessible for all ages. These messages will be used in ongoing advocacy efforts to demonstrate broad public support for libraries.

With recent federal rollbacks threatening hard-won climate progress, there has never been a more critical time to take meaningful local action. Register to join a cohort of motivated changemakers, explore climate solutions through lessons and field trips, and design a personal Stewardship Project that makes a difference in your community. 


CEC's Climate Stewards certification course is offered in September, January, and April. The winter 2026 cohort will begin on Tuesday, January 27, and end on Tuesday, March 17. Classes are held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Plein air painter Ludmilla Pilat Welch moved to Santa Barbara in 1905 and became fascinated with the area's remaining adobes. Her renderings are an important historic record, as many of these remnants of Santa Barbara's past slowly disappeared from the landscape.

Join the architectural walking tour of historic buildings in downtown Santa Barbara and hear the rich anecdotal history of buildings such as de la Guerra Adobe, El Paseo, Meridian Studios, and the Lobero Theatre, among others.

The Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara offers its Sabado Architectural Walking Tour each Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM. The tour leaves from the City Hall steps adjacent to de la Guerra Plaza and is 1.5–2hours long. The suggested donation is $20 per person.

This 2-hour tour explores the history of the lower blocks of State Street with special attention paid to the Spanish-Colonial style of architecture, the Brinkerhoff Victorian District, and three of Jeff Shelton's residential projects, including the famous "Dr. Seuss" house. On weekday tours, they often visit Jeff's studio. The tour starts at 10:00 AM at 715 State St. Combine the tour with a birthday or anniversary and receive a free McConnell's ice cream! From meetings and conferences to receptions and film screenings, every booking supports bold, equitable climate solutions and helps grow a community of changemakers. 

Clean and Safe Program



Our Clean & Safe Program continues to make a visible impact downtown. Our team is out daily, keeping the streets clean, welcoming, and well-maintained, to help create clearly defined, comfortable, and safe spaces for the community. During December, the team covered 1,671 miles on foot and filled 1,667 trash bagsremoving 27,768 pounds of debris from the district. They also pressure washed 108 block faces, including trash cans and light poles. These efforts not only improve the appearance of our public spaces but also enhance overall safety and the experience for everyone who visits, works, or lives downtown.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) is a non-profit arts and educational organization dedicated to discovering and showcasing the best in independent and international cinema.
