RK Jazz is a seasoned jazz ensemble boasting over 100 years of combined playing experience. Pianist Zachary Worthy blends classical precision with lyrical lines and Oscar Peterson-style runs, while Aaron Worthy delivers fiery saxophone solos and original compositions from his 15+ years with River Knot Vocal Band. Percussionist Todd Hocherl provides creative, driving rhythms, and bassist/band leader Tom Todaro anchors the group with strong melodic grooves and original jazz works.

Center City Jazz Fest, August 5 – 8

The Center City Jazz Festival is an outgrowth of the ever-popular Downtown Cumberland jazz crawl put on annually by the Cumberland Jazz Society. That one night of supreme coolness has now been extended into a festival as we’ve coordinated efforts with the Levitt amp series and the new Summer in the City music series (sponsored by the Downtown Development Commission) as well as other new venues.
The festival features world-class regional and national acts spread out over 4 days. Most of the events are free!

Howard's Half Marathon/5K Run Festival
August 30 • 8 am
Howard's Half Marathon/5K Run Festival is a charity event raising money for the Allegany County Animal Shelter, a municipal no-kill shelter located in Cumberland, MD and serving the surrounding area. Two events are featured - a half-marathon and a 5K race. Both courses are out and back format. Registration for each event begins on March 1, 2026. Fall Bingo Blitz

CASA of Western Maryland has rescheduled their second annual bingo fundraising event. Fall Bingo Blitz will be held on Wednesday, October 14th at City Place in Frostburg, Md from 6:00-8:30 pm. This fall-themed fundraising event will feature bingo games, vendors, themed prizes, and tip jars. Hot dogs, soft drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase. The venue is sponsored by the City of Frostburg.

• The Gilchrist Museum & Gallery is pleased to present Recent Work, a solo exhibition featuring paintings and prints by artist Lee Butler, on view August 7 through September 6, 2026. An opening reception with the artist will be held Saturday, August 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

For many years, Butler's work was rooted in direct observation of landscapes and the human figure. In Recent Work, however, he shifts toward a more intuitive approach, allowing memory and imagination to guide the creative process. Each painting and print begins with only a few marks or a simple field of color before evolving organically into a finished composition.

The Gilchrist Museum & Gallery is honored to bring Butler's newest body of work to Cumberland, offering visitors the opportunity to explore a collection shaped by experimentation, intuition, and years of artistic growth.

Community members are invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday, August 8, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., meet the artist, and enjoy an evening celebrating contemporary art in Western Maryland. Light refreshments will be available, and admission is free.

• GORDON ROBERTS HOUSE AFTERNOON TEA - THE ADVENTUROUS LIFE OF ANNIE ROBERTS, Saturday, August 8, 1- 3 pm. Living historian and retired history teacher Marion Daniels will present the intriguing story of Annie Gibson Roberts Yates at an afternoon tea in the Gordon Roberts House ballroom. If you have enjoyed Marion’s portrayal of Martha Washington, you know she is a very thorough researcher and great presenter!

Anna Gibson Roberts Yates was the beautiful and infamous sister of W. Milnor Roberts II, second owner of the Gordon Roberts House. Annie was born in 1849 to one of the country’s pre-eminent civil engineers, William Minor Roberts. Her father’s work took the family to Brazil, where they lived from the time that Anna was 10 yrs old until she turned 17, as he oversaw the creation of the Brazilian National Railroad. The family then moved to St. Louis…and in 1870, her uncle (an officer in the US military) invited Anna to spend the summer on the frontier at Fort Hays, Kansas. That summer on the Great Plains set Annie on a path to heartbreak and adversity that tea guests will discover.

• Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service.
• Ability to operate a variety of vehicles and adapt to different transportation needs.
• Physical ability to assist passengers as needed, including lifting or helping with mobility.
• Knowledge of local roads and traffic regulations in Cumberland, Maryland.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Proven experience in customer service or in a similar role. 
• Familiarity with safety and emergency procedures.
• First Aid, AED and CPR certification are preferred.

The Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) – DORS helps people with physical, emotional, intellectual, developmental, sensory, and learning disabilities go to work and keep their jobs through a variety of vocational rehabilitation (VR) services.
