RootSTable

Coming Soon to the Ferleman Gallery. At RootSTable, the connection begins at the root and extends across the table. Between farm and plate, between chef and guest, between the steady roots that sustain us and the shared table that gathers us. Our name carries two ideas at once: roots and stability. We believe food should feel grounded - shaped by the season, connected to the land, and prepared with intention for the people seated around it.

Rooted in the land and completed in the gathering, each meal honors the ground that shaped it and the hands that share it.

The beautiful mountains of Western Maryland present an excellent opportunity for our shelter dogs to experience the joy of a long walk, hike or run in many of the area's scenic locations. Are you looking for something more low-key? No problem. We have many pups that would enjoy an afternoon lounging on a couch, a stroll through the neighborhood, or maybe a trip for ice cream. Ferleman Gallery

9 N. Centre Street • www.ferleman.comart@ferleman.com

Gallery hours are Tuesday – Thursday, 10 am – 4 pm; Friday, 10 am – 8 pm; Saturday, 10 am – 8 pm

With over 10,000 sq. ft. of stunning event space across two floors, the Ferleman Gallery is the perfect setting for weddings, receptions, parties, and meetings. Make your special occasion truly unforgettable in the area’s premier art gallery.

• Ferleman Gallery is proud to present The Secrets That Structure Holds, a solo exhibition of new work by contemporary painter Allan Gorman, opening Friday, May 1, 2026. The exhibition will debut a new body of work that continues Gorman’s exploration of structure, perception, and the hidden geometry embedded within the built environment.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 1 at 5:00 PM, inviting the public to experience the work and engage with the artist’s latest evolution.

Gorman’s paintings operate at the intersection of realism and abstraction, drawing inspiration from architectural and industrial forms—bridges, stairwells, corridors, and structural fragments. Through careful manipulation of light, shadow, and perspective, his work transforms familiar surfaces into immersive visual experiences that challenge perception and reveal unexpected complexity.

In addition to the opening, the gallery will host a public artist interview with Allan Gorman on Saturday, May 2 from 12:00–1:00 PM. This informal conversation invites attendees to hear directly from the artist about his process, influences, and the ideas behind the exhibition. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a deeper dialogue about the work.

This exhibition continues Ferleman Gallery’s commitment to presenting artists whose work engages deeply with contemporary ideas of structure, perception, and visual experience—bringing nationally recognized talent into the cultural landscape of Western Maryland.

Gallery Stage

9 N. Centre Street • 240-609-0077 • www.gallerystage.com

• Cruz Contreras and the Black Lilies, Saturday, May 9, 7 – 9 pm. Raised between the rugged lines of Tennessee and the long shadows of Michigan, Cruz Contreras has spent nearly thirty years forging his path through the Americana musical landscape. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, bandleader, producer, and storyteller whose voice cuts through noise like a well-honed blade.

First as co-founder of Robinella and the CCstringband, then as the fire at the heart of The Black Lillies, Cruz helped carve a sound that feels as old as the hills and as wild as the road. His songs have topped the Billboard and Americana charts, picked up Independent Music Awards, and earned him a nomination from the Americana Music Association as an emerging artist, though his music suggests he was never chasing trends to begin with.

He’s stood on stages from Conan O’Brien’s late-night set to the Grand Ole Opry, the latter over 40 times, and drawn praise from Rolling Stone, NPR, American Songwriter, and Vanity Fair. Contreras has toured with Robert Earl Keen and the Turnpike Troubadours, collaborated with John Oates, and shared stages with Old Crow Medicine Show, The Travelin’ McCourys, Tyler Childers, Mavis Staples, Elizabeth Cook and more. A festival veteran, Cruz Contreras and The Black Lillies have performed at Bonnaroo, Merle Fest, Jazz Fest, Red Ants Pants, Stagecoach, High Sierra, DelFest, Pickathon, Mile Zero, Cayamo, to name a few. But he doesn’t play for headlines, but for the quiet connection, the still moment in a crowded room when a lyric hits home like a memory you forgot you had.

Now touring behind his debut solo album Cosmico, Cruz is joined once more by a band of road-tested companions under the name Cruz Contreras and The Black Lillies. Together, they bring with them a catalog of songs that stretch across time — from the familiar past to the hopeful unknown.

• Gatsby Gala
Fifth Anniversary Edition

Saturday, April 25 2026

F. Brooke Whiting House
632 Washington Street • Cumberland, MD

Celebrate Local Living History in Style

For the fifth time, the Allegany County Historical Society is opening the Brooke Whiting House to celebrate the peak of Western Maryland’s affluence and influence through the lens of a great American novel, “The Great Gatsby.”

This gala fundraiser is an enjoyable tradition when we dress in our best 1920s outfits and re-live a racy 1929 prohibition party as guests of F. Brooke and Ruth Whiting in their 1911 home. This was Cumberland’s boom time. The Whitings were active in everything from banking to beer brewing. In our time machine gala, they’re hosting a party and anticipating the end of Prohibition with unbridled optimism.

Known to our ACHS family simply as “Gatsby”, this night has become a must-do social gathering for all the right reasons! Surprise arrivals. Great food. Live Jazz. An amazing setting among Brooke Whiting Jr and his sister Anne’s collections of art, books, and furnishings, astutely acquired from antiquities dealers and during their world travels and donated, with the house, to ACHS. Proceeds benefit the Allegany County Historical Society’s preservation and educational mission, as established beginning in 1937.

The Whiting House collections glisten… especially rare books that were our benefactor’s passionate profession. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel about the glamorous Roaring 20s was powerfully predictive of America’s future through the dark fate of his protagonist, complicated and mysterious Jay Gatsby. Now understood to be semi-autobiographical about his tumultuous life with wife Zelda, naturally the Fitzgerald’s are always invited!

Doors Open at 6 PM

Attire: Formal or Semi Formal 1920s Era Recommended

Bar: Open Bar free to all ticket buyers
