Don't Light That: Fireworks Banned in Harrison Township

With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, Harrison Township would like to remind residents that fireworks are not permitted within township limits.

In June 2022, the Harrison Township Board of Trustees passed Resolution No. 109-2002 in response to House Bill 172 and Ohio Revised Code section 3743.45. This resolution called for banning the discharge, ignition or explosion of fireworks within the township.

To keep the township safe, the trustees banned the discharge and explosion of fireworks due to the danger that they impose on the people and properties in the township. Because fireworks do have the potential to cause serious injuries and significant property damage, the ban was put in place to reduce these risks.

If you have any questions, feel free to call the township at (937) 890-5611.

Nuisance Nightclub Finally Demolished

The property that most recently housed Harem Nightclub, located at 5825 N. Dixie Drive in Northridge, was demolished on June 23. This building, which was built in 1959, had been empty since 2017 and faced significant fire damage in 2020.

Receiving funding from the Ohio Department of Development, managed through the Montgomery County Land Bank, Harrison Township was excited to use the grant money to tear down this building and make way for future development.

While there are no current plans for the property, Harrison Township's Development Director, Emily Crow, said redevelopment could happen in the future. “We don’t have a specific replacement for it yet,” Crow said. “However, we would be very open to working with partners to get something in here that will serve the community.”

Bladecutter's Inc. completed the tear down. Demolition costs are expected to be around $50,000 with the township paying 25 percent of the total cost.

Firecrackers with Firefighters: Learning Fire Safety with a Treat

On Wednesday, June 28, members of the community came out to meet and greet Harrison Township firefighters and trustees at the Kroger located at 3520 W. Siebenthaler Ave. in Ft. McKinley.

The firefighters got to show kids the fire trucks, told them more about their department, what they do and who they are.

Harrison Township Trustees also attended the event and gave away candy and other goodies to everyone who attended.

The township was excited about this opportunity to partner with Kroger to discuss important firework safety while getting to enjoy the festive firecracker popsicles.
