RTA Unveils Newly Designed Bus

For Harrison Township

The Greater Dayton RTA released the Harrison Township bus as part of its campaign to highlight local communities with its "Proudly Serving" project.

Each bus design emphasizes points of interest with photos and also features a fun fact, estimated population and the year the city or township was founded. Harrison Township is one of 22 communities to be included in this project.

This bus was put in service last month and will be on the streets of the Miami Valley for a year.

Harrison Township Community Garage Sale

Friday, June 1-3

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each year, Harrison Township hosts a Community Wide Garage Sale during the first week in June. During this event, residents can have a sale without obtaining a permit.

Help Fight Identity Theft at Shredding Event

Harrison Township in partnership with AAA Dayton North will host its second annual Shred Day. This free shredding event will take place on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at AAA Dayton North located at 6580 North Main Street in Harrison Township.

Residents are encouraged to attend the event and take advantage of securely destroying personal documents.

Identity theft cases are at an all-time high, with a new victim every 22 seconds according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In addition, 5.7 million cases of fraud and identity theft were reported to the FTC in 2022, up from 4.7 million the previous year.

This event is for residents of Harrison Township only. Residents can bring up to three boxes or bags of documents to be shredded. We do ask that you stay in your vehicle. Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips are OK to be shredded. Electronics and batteries cannot be shredded. The event will end at noon or until the truck reaches its capacity.

The Township Conducts Community Clean Up

Harrison Township wants to help you with your spring cleaning. So, the month of May has been designated Community Clean Up Month in the township.

Last year, Harrison Township Trustees declared the months of May and September as Community Clean Up Months.

Harrison Township To Host Blood Drive

Harrison Township is partnering with the Community Blood Center for its community blood drive. Blood donors are needed on Thursday, May 25 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Harrison Township Community Center located at 5945 N. Dixie Drive.

Each donor gets a FREE beach towel. Also, register between May 1-31 and be automatically entered into the drawing to win two tickets to see Taylor Swift on June 30 at Paycor Sradium in Cincinnati.

Join Local Church For Community Celebration

Shiloh United Church of Christ invites you to its second annual Shiloh Community Celebration & Opening Day of Farmers Market.

This event will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shiloh Church located at 5300 Philadelphia Drive.

Shiloh Church invites the community to celebrate the opening of the Shiloh Farmer’s Market as well as honor our fellow Harrison Township residents. Enjoy food, displays, interactive crafts, prizes and games, DJ, a storyteller, cloggers, line dancing and much more.

Go Gray in May - Brain Tumor Awareness Month

More than one million Americans are living with a brain tumor and approximately 94,000 people will be diagnosed this year alone.

May has been dedicated as Brain Tumor Awareness Month nationally. Brain tumors are a leading cause of tumor cancer deaths in children and are the third main cause of cancer deaths in adults ages 20-39.

Common brain tumor warning signs are:

Impaired vision, hearing or speech

Seizures

Difficulty swallowing

Increased head size in infants

Headaches

Vomiting

Poor body coordination

Behavioral and mood changes

Kettering Health Years Ahead Center Upcoming Classes

Kettering Health Years Ahead Center in Harrison Township offers many classes and programs for the community 65 and older.

Some of the classes offered this month are End-of-Life Care Planning, Brain Teaser and much more.
