MAKING A DIFFERENCE
RON AND MICHELE KNOWLTON AND JOANNE STANLEY
| | |
This month, our congregational family extends our loving farewells and special blessings to Ron and Michele Knowlton and Joanne Stanley, who are relocating to new homes away from South Florida. They have all made a life-giving difference in our life in Christ.
Ron served with distinction for more than a decade as our Parish Administrator. He brought a tireless and careful commitment to every aspect of parish administration. His love for this church family was boundless. His steady and faithful leadership, leavened by his wisdom, was a gift to the congregation and to me. Michele has served as a leader in our Altar Guild ministry for more than 20 years. The fruit of her commitment is in the beauty of our sanctuary—candles polished, linens cleaned and ironed, pews polished, vestments carefully arranged. So much of the ministry of the Altar Guild is unseen. They are the holy house elves whose work is essential but invisible. But the truth is we have all been blessed by this holy work. Thank you, Ron and Michele. You have made a lasting impact on our common life!
Joanne Stanley has served in multiple ministry leadership roles over the past twenty years. She served as Senior Warden during COVID and our capital campaign, helping to steer
St. Gregory's through this challenging time as a gifted servant leader. She has participated in nearly twenty years of new member classes and served as a connector between new members and the ministries of the church. She is a dedicated verger who began serving on the altar as an acolyte and Eucharistic Minister. I could continue, but the truth is, there is barely a ministry at St. Gregory's that Joanne hasn't supported as an always willing servant.
These two families have been a blessing to our congregation. We thank them for making a difference. Well done, good and faithful servants!
In Christ,
Andrew+

PIANO AND POETRY:
A BEAUTIFUL FINALE TO OUR SUMMER SERIES
Thank you to everyone who joined us last Thursday evening for Piano and Poetry, the final and most popular event of St. Gregory's Summer Series! What began as a special summer gathering has become a beloved annual tradition! Our heartfelt thanks to Tim Brumfield for sharing his artistry on our Steinway; to Meals with Meaning Catering for the delicious bites; to all who attended; and special thanks to everyone who shared the gift of poetry with us. It was a wonderful evening of music, poetry, fellowship, and community, and a perfect way to close out our Summer Series.

YOGA MINISTRY SURVEY
St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry would like to hear from you!
Please take a moment to take the online survey.
St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry was founded and is led by Rev. Elizabeth Pankey-Warren, and the Yoga and Sacred Movement has been coordinated by congregant Daphne Lombardo. The program is now further enhanced by the skilled yoga instruction of congregants Jennifer Attonito, Susan Standbrook, and Rosie Sandoval.
As you may be aware, St. Gregory's currently offers Yoga and Sacred Movement once per month every third Thursday. There have been requests to add a second Sacred Movement class monthly. Please click the button below to complete the brief survey. Or, if you prefer, printed surveys can found on the Welcome Table in the Sanctuary and Harris Hall. Your feedback will help guide us on the feasibility and scheduling of this second class and expanding our offerings.

A MESSAGE FROM TIM
I want to thank Casey Kunmann, soloist, and Michael Murray, organist, for their beautiful music this past Sunday! They will be at the 10 am service again this week as I’m still visiting my family in Kentucky.
At the 8 am service this Sunday, Lori Snow will be playing her flute, and I want to thank her for always doing such a beautiful job when I’m away!
At the 10 am service of worship, Casey will be singing the beautiful aria “Bist du bei mir, geh ich mit Freuden” (If you are with me, I go with joy)” by J. S. Bach (1685-1750). This aria is originally from Heinrich Stolzel’s opera Diomedes, first staged in 1718, and appears in Bach’s 1725 Anna Magdalena Notebook, a collection of music either arranged or composed by Bach which he presented to his wife, Anna Magdalena (1701-1760), herself being a talented singer. Some compositions in the collection were composed by contemporaries of the time and others by his sons, Johann Christian and Carl Philip Emanuel.
In addition, Casey will sing a setting of the Latin prayer, “Ave Maria”, originally published in 1825 entitled “Ellen's Third Song” by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). Originally part of a setting of seven songs from Walter Scott's 1810 popular narrative poem The Lady of the Lake, in which the character Ellen Douglas sings a prayer addressed to the Virgin Mary, later versions appeared with the full text of the “Ave Maria,” leading one to think today that Schubert composed the melody explicitly for the Latin prayer, which was not the case. Franz Liszt (1811-1886) subsequently wrote three arrangements of Schubert’s work using the Ave Maria text.
Blessings to all,
Tim

SCAM ALERT:
SPOOFING AND PHISHING ARE ON THE RISE
We have recently been made aware of scammers spoofing St. Gregory’s personal and church office email addresses. If you ever receive an email or text that seems unusual, urgent, or requests personal or financial information, please do not respond or click on any links and alert the church office at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately, these scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
When in doubt, pause and double-check the authenticity of the sender and contact the church office at office@st-gregorys.com. We are always here for you.
Additionally, The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles warns of widespread “DMV” text scams—please remember they will never contact you by text demanding payment or threatening suspension. Learn more from the FLHSMV Scam Alert page
The Federal Bureau of Investigation advises that phishing and “smishing” (text-based scams) often try to create urgency to trick you into clicking malicious links or sharing sensitive information. The safest approach is simple: stay alert, don’t click, don’t reply, and verify through official sources. Learn more at: Spoofing and Phishing — FBI

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS
TO HONOR A LOVED ONE
OR SPECIAL OCCASION
| |
Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $300. Your generous donation helps offset the cost of the flowers, and when multiple families sponsor together, the cost may be shared. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.
To learn more or to get the process started, please email the church office at office@st-gregorys.com.

SAFE CHURCH POLICIES
Working to assure the safety and well-being of
our children, youth, and all members
At St. Gregory's, we work hard to follow policies and guidelines designed to keep all of us as safe and as well as possible at church. The national Episcopal Church and our diocese have set forth policies and guidelines for all parishes to aid in this effort.
With particular regard to children and youth, St. Gregory's does the following:
+ Require all who work with children and youth, as well as other staff and persons in authority, to complete the Safe Church program through our diocese.
+ Require background checks for all relevant people, including Sunday School teachers, youth ministers, clergy, and regular volunteers.
+ Comply with our diocesan policies and guidelines.
As we have said in prior communications, we cannot guarantee anyone 100% safety. However, we can -- and do -- strive to do our very best to create a loving and safe space for everyone at our church.
If you would like more information about the Safe Church program
or St. Gregory's policies, please contact:

CONFIRMATION CLASS: LIFE IN CHRIST
(Grades 6, 7, 8 and others)
Classes will resume on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Please stay tuned for updates!
Confirmation Class meets every Sunday at 9:10 am
during the school year in the Conference Room (unless otherwise noted).
Our journey to Confirmation for young people is a three-year program. Our program seeks to nurture the faith of our young people as they prepare for their high school years and beyond, giving them a solid foundation for a Christ-centered life. The Confirmation Class experience may also include retreats, service opportunities and other activities. All young people in grades 6, 7 and 8 can participate in and benefit from this class, regardless of whether or not they choose to be confirmed. Older teens, those transferring from other churches, or any others who are interested are most welcome to participate as well.
During Confirmation we explore:
-- The Bible and the stories that shape our life and faith
-- A life of prayer and worship led by and replenished by the Holy Spirit
-- A life of ministry and service as disciples of Jesus
-- The Anglican/Episcopal tradition in all its breadth and depth

We will resume weekly gatherings this Fall. Stay tuned!
HAVE A BLESSED SUMMER AND SEE YOU WHEN WE GET BACK TOGETHER (OR AT CHURCH AND OUT AND ABOUT!)
+ + +
Conversation, Reflection and Prayer -- with lots of Fun and Fellowship!
Upper Room Time meets at 9:45am in the Youth Room during the program year. All teens 6th - 12th grade are warmly invited to join us!
WHAT DO WE DO DURING UPPER ROOM TIME?
Following our pattern of Pause, Listen, Reflect, Pray and Go,
we build on our previous themes of
What will you do with your one wild and precious life?
(based on Mary Oliver's poem The Summer Day) and
"What makes you come alive?"
(from a quote by theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman)
"Building Beloved Community"
In conjunction with St. Gregory's church-wide Beloved Community initiative we worked on how our lives and gifts reflect God's love in the world.
Theme for 2026-2027 -- "I matter. I belong. I love."
We will delve more deeply into our core identity statement:
I am a beloved child of God.
I am a member of the Body of Christ.
I have a unique calling and purpose in this world.
As we have in the past, we continue to use some Benedictine practices to bring more balance, proportion, and harmony into our lives.
