FROM THE RECTOR

A VIDEO MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR

In this week's video, Fr. Andrew shares that the Holy Spirit is moving through St. Gregory’s as the parish looks ahead to the future. This Sunday, following the 10:00 AM service, everyone is invited to gather in Harris Hall for Coffee & Conversation and a look at the nearly final draft of St. Gregory’s Strategic Plan. Building on the parish survey and feedback shared earlier this summer, Fr. Andrew will discuss where we believe the Holy Spirit is leading St. Gregory’s and invite parishioners to share their thoughts, questions, and feedback as the plan takes shape.

IMPACT

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

A NEW SEASON OF GRACE

There is something wonderfully hopeful about this time of year at St. Gregory’s. As the quieter rhythms of summer give way to fall, a new program year unfolds with renewed energy. Ministries gather, our choir returns; friendships are rekindled, and fresh opportunities to grow in faith take shape all around us.

What makes this vibrant parish life possible is not any single program or person. It is each of you.

It is our teachers who prepare Sunday School lessons, our volunteers who serve our guests, our Altar Guild members who prepare the sanctuary for worship, our choir members and choristers who lead us in song, our ushers who arrive early, the Brothers of St. Gregory's and ECW members who plan events and work tirelessly in support of our mission. It is also those who tend our gardens, knit prayer shawls, welcome newcomers, reach out to neighbors in need, serve as Office Angels, give generously, pray faithfully, or simply show up regularly with open hearts. And so many, many more who give selflessly of their time, treasure, and talents in countless ways. Each of these acts contributes to the extraordinary life we share at St. Gregory’s. Each of you makes a difference.

As this new season begins, I want to say simply: thank you. Thank you for the countless ways you make St. Gregory’s the thriving, loving, faithful community that it is. I am deeply grateful to share this ministry with you, and I am excited to see all that God will continue to do through us in the season ahead.

In Christ,

Andrew+

YOGA MINISTRY SURVEY

YOGA MINISTRY SURVEY

St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry would like to hear from you!

Please take a moment to take the online survey.

St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry was founded and is led by Rev. Elizabeth Pankey-Warren, and the Yoga and Sacred Movement has been coordinated by congregant Daphne Lombardo. The program is now further enhanced by the skilled yoga instruction of congregants Jennifer Attonito, Susan Standbrook, and Rosie Sandoval.

As you may be aware, St. Gregory's currently offers Yoga and Sacred Movement once per month every third Thursday. There have been requests to add a second Sacred Movement class monthly. Please click the button below to complete the brief survey. Or, if you prefer, printed surveys can found on the Welcome Table in the Sanctuary and Harris Hall.  Your feedback will help guide us on the feasibility and scheduling of this second class and expanding our offerings.

Congratulations, and huge thanks go out to Daphne Lombardo on her first anniversary leading Yoga and Sacred Movement at St. Gregory's!

MUSIC MINISTRY

A MESSAGE FROM TIM

As we anticipate the return of the Choir of St. Gregory’s in a couple of weeks, we continue with our Summer Music Series as we welcome Sarah Bruno as our guest soloist this Sunday at the 10 am service. Sarah sings regularly at St. Mary Magdalene and St. Martin Episcopal Church and joins her family at St. Gregory’s when she is able, and we’re so happy she can join us this Sunday! She will be singing the beautiful aria “O Rest in the Lord” from Felix Mendelssohn’s (1809-1847) oratorio, “Elijah”. This monumental work dramatizes the life of the prophet Elijah and was premiered in 1846 with Mendelssohn himself conducting. Many of the arias and choral items within the work stand alone as standard solos and anthems such as “O Rest in the Lord” and “He Watching Over Israel”. Sarah will also be singing the African American Spiritual “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hand,” beautifully arranged by American composer Margaret Bonds. Bonds arranged this most beloved spiritual in 1963 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, and she contributed greatly to the preservation of African American music, elevating the Spiritual to formal concert performance level.

I’ll see you Sunday!

CANTERBURY YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY UPDATE

CANTERBURY YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

Hellos and Goodbyes

Our Canterbury Ministry is going strong with two new residents joining our Canterbury House (the 260 NE 2nd Street house, closest to our church parking lot).

This month we said fond farewells to Kimmy Wilkinson and Charles Kissel.  Kimmy graduated from FAU (she was a Canterbury House “lifer” who was with us all four years of her time at FAU!) and is now pursuing other adventures in theater, communications, and related fields.  Charles was with us for several months while doing an internship in structural engineering with a West Palm Beach Firm.  He has returned to the University of Cincinnati to complete his studies.  Both will be missed at the House!

But…life goes on, and God provides!  Joining continuing residents Elijah Figueroa and Jules Hayes are Anna Ruby Whitmire and Megan Harper.  Anna Ruby is pursuing a Master's in art, and Megan is working on her PhD in entrepreneurial studies.  We are so thrilled to have them both!

A new and exciting venture this year will be a Canterbury Ministry Bible Study.  Stay tuned as plans evolve!

Look for all our residents around St. Gregory’s as they join us for worship, service projects and special events!

SCAM ALERT:

SPOOFING AND PHISHING ARE ON THE RISE

We have recently been made aware of scammers spoofing St. Gregory’s personal and church office email addresses. If you ever receive an email or text that seems unusual, urgent, or requests personal or financial information, please do not respond or click on any links and alert the church office at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately, these scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

When in doubt, pause and double-check the authenticity of the sender and contact the church office at office@st-gregorys.com. We are always here for you.

Additionally, The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles warns of widespread “DMV” text scams—please remember they will never contact you by text demanding payment or threatening suspension. Learn more from the FLHSMV Scam Alert page

The Federal Bureau of Investigation advises that phishing and “smishing” (text-based scams) often try to create urgency to trick you into clicking malicious links or sharing sensitive information. The safest approach is simple: stay alert, don’t click, don’t reply, and verify through official sources. Learn more at: Spoofing and Phishing — FBI

SPONSORING ALTAR FLOWERS

If you’d like to sponsor altar flowers in memory of a loved one, in thanksgiving for family or friends, or to celebrate a special occasion, please click here.

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS

TO HONOR A LOVED ONE

OR SPECIAL OCCASION

Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $300. Your generous donation helps offset the cost of the flowers, and when multiple families sponsor together, the cost may be shared. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.

SAFE CHURCH POLICIES

Working to assure the safety and well-being of

our children, youth, and all members

At St. Gregory's, we work hard to follow policies and guidelines designed to keep all of us as safe and as well as possible at church. The national Episcopal Church and our diocese have set forth policies and guidelines for all parishes to aid in this effort.

With particular regard to children and youth, St. Gregory's does the following:

+ Require all who work with children and youth, as well as other staff and persons in authority, to complete the Safe Church program through our diocese.

+ Require background checks for all relevant people, including Sunday School teachers, youth ministers, clergy, and regular volunteers.

+ Comply with our diocesan policies and guidelines.

As we have said in prior communications, we cannot guarantee anyone 100% safety. However, we can -- and do -- strive to do our very best to create a loving and safe space for everyone at our church.

If you would like more information about the Safe Church program

or St. Gregory's policies, please contact:

CONFIRMATION CLASS: LIFE IN CHRIST

(Grades 6, 7, 8, and others)

This Sunday, September 6

9:10 am: Confirmation Class (Conference Room)

Confirmation Class meets every Sunday at 9:10 am

during the school year in the Conference Room (unless otherwise noted).

Our journey to Confirmation for young people is a three-year program. Our program seeks to nurture the faith of our young people as they prepare for their high school years and beyond, giving them a solid foundation for a Christ-centered life. The Confirmation Class experience may also include retreats, service opportunities and other activities. All young people in grades 6, 7 and 8 can participate in and benefit from this class, regardless of whether or not they choose to be confirmed. Older teens, those transferring from other churches, or any others who are interested are most welcome to participate as well.

During Confirmation, we explore:

-- The Bible and the stories that shape our life and faith

-- A life of prayer and worship led by and replenished by the Holy Spirit

-- A life of ministry and service as disciples of Jesus

-- The Anglican/Episcopal tradition in all its breadth and depth

TOPIC: JESUS WHO??

AI, Influencers, Role Models -- Whom Do We Follow?

+ + +

Conversation, Reflection and Prayer -- with lots of Fun and Fellowship!

WHAT DO WE DO DURING UPPER ROOM TIME?

Following our pattern of Pause, Listen, Reflect, Pray and Go,

we build on our previous themes of

What will you do with your one wild and precious life?

(based on Mary Oliver's poem The Summer Day) and

"What makes you come alive?"

(from a quote by theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman)

"Building Beloved Community"

In conjunction with St. Gregory's church-wide Beloved Community initiative we worked on how our lives and gifts reflect God's love in the world.

Theme for 2026-2027 -- "I matter. I belong. I love."

We will delve more deeply into our core identity statement:

I am a beloved child of God.

I am a member of the Body of Christ.

I have a unique calling and purpose in this world.

As we have in the past, we continue to use some Benedictine practices to bring more balance, proportion, and harmony into our lives.

SCENES FROM THE UPPER ROOM...

Sunday, August 30th found us delving into "Upper Room Deconstructed". Small groups examined each element of our Upper Room flow of Pause, Listen, Reflect, and Pray, selecting the options they felt called to share. Here's what they chose:

Pause -- Silent meditation time starting and ending with the gentle tone of the steel tongue drum (see picture of this cool instrument below!)

Listen -- The version of the Gospel reading of the day (Matthew 16:21-28) as featured in The Message Bible.

Reflect -- Among the questions for reflections selected were: If Jesus is God, why would he choose to suffer? Why would Jesus call Peter "Satan"?" Who is Satan? What does Satan do in the world that goes against what Jesus wants to do in the world?

Pray -- The chosen Closing Prayer was the contemporary version of The Lord's Prayer (see below!)

Go -- On the way out to head downstairs, Anita offered everyone a selection from our Blessing Bowl. A new initiative this year, the Bowl is filled with folded slips of paper, each featuring an inspirational quote or Bible verse; we ask the Holy Spirit to direct each selection so that the recipient will find something they need during the upcoming week in the words.

COMING UP IN UPPER ROOM TIME!

Volunteers are needed for various ministries.

Our Eucharistic Visitor volunteer group is looking for members of our St. Gregory’s family to join them as they:

1. Deliver communion and enrich the religious experience of those unable to attend church due to illness or incapacity.

2. Visit and spiritually support those in need of the comfort and companionship of St. Gregory’s

3. Maintain contact with those parishioners with whom they are assigned to assure them that they are still a part of our St. Gregory’s community.

If this type of ministry appeals to you, please click to view volunteer opportunities or contact the church office at office@st-gregorys.com or Gena Vallee at 561-451-7747 or email her at gvallee@st-gregorys.com for more information.
