A VIDEO MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR
In this week's message from the Rector, Father Andrew invites you to join him for services this Sunday, June 8, for Pentecost Sunday. Please wear red to church. Following both the 8 am and 10 AM services, Bill Lintz will share an update in the conference room about the church's policies on immigration. Please join us!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
CARING FOR OUR IMMIGRANT NEIGHBORS
“The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the native-born among you; you shall love the alien as yourself…” (Leviticus 19:34).
At St. Gregory’s, we believe that welcoming and caring for immigrants is a sacred calling rooted in scripture and tradition. From Abraham and Sarah’s nomadic journey to the Israelites’ time in Egypt, the Bible reminds us that God’s people have often been strangers in foreign lands. Jesus echoes this call in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, urging us to show compassion across boundaries.
In light of recent changes in immigration laws, we have prayerfully considered how to respond as a congregation. Led by our Senior Warden Bill Lintz and vestry member Cyndi Bloom, a committee has developed a set of protocols to guide our response. These were approved by the vestry in May.
We invite you to join us in the conference room after both the 8 am and 10 am services to learn more. It’s Brothers Breakfast Sunday—feel free to bring your breakfast along!
In Christ,
Andrew+

ABOUT PENTECOST
The term means “the fiftieth day.” It is used in both the OT and the NT. In the OT it refers to a feast of seven weeks known as the Feast of Weeks. It was apparently an agricultural event that focused on the harvesting of first fruits. Josephus referred to Pentecost as the fiftieth day after the first day of Passover.
The term is used in the NT to refer to the coming of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1), shortly after Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension. Christians came to understand the meaning of Pentecost in terms of the gift of the Spirit. The Pentecost event was the fulfillment of a promise which Jesus gave concerning the return of the Holy Spirit. The speaking in tongues, which was a major effect of having received the Spirit, is interpreted by some to symbolize the church's worldwide preaching.
In the Christian tradition, Pentecost is now the seventh Sunday after Easter. It emphasizes that the church is understood as the body of Christ which is drawn together and given life by the Holy Spirit. Some understand Pentecost to be the origin and sending out of the church into the world. The Day of Pentecost is one of the seven principal feasts of the church year in the Episcopal Church (BCP, p. 15). The Day of Pentecost is identified by the BCP as one of the feasts that is “especially appropriate” for baptism (p. 312).
The liturgical color for the feast is red. Pentecost has also been known as Whitsun or Whitsunday, a corruption of “White Sunday.” This term reflects the custom by which those who were baptized at the Vigil of Pentecost would wear their white baptismal garments to church on the Day of Pentecost. The BCP provides directions for observance of a Vigil of Pentecost, which begins with the Service of Light (p. 227). The Hymnal 1982 provides a variety of hymns for Pentecost (Hymns 223-230) and the Holy Spirit (Hymns 500-516).

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS
TO HONOR A LOVED ONE
OR SPECIAL OCCASION
| |
Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $250. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.
To learn more or to get the process started, please email the church office at office@st-gregorys.com.

This Sunday is the Sunday of Pentecost! May our prayer be “Come, Holy Spirit, Come!” As we observe this important feast day of the church, we will hear the Choir of St. Gregory’s sing an anthem by William Harris “Come Down, O Love Divine”. Sir Harris’s musical setting of the familiar and timeless 15th century text by Biana da Siena has been adapted by as a standard hymn within the Anglican Communion and will no doubt sound familiar to many of you.
The Choir of St. Gregory’s will sing their last service this Sunday before going on summer vacation. I wish to thank each member for their outstanding work throughout the season and for their invaluable contribution of spirit, superior musicianship, and unwavering devotion to their church.
I’ll see you in church!
Blessings,
Tim

KANUGA YOUTH WEEK 2025
June 15 - 20, 2025
Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC, will once again host Youth Week this summer. Youth Week is the summer event for KEY Conferences (Kanuga Empowered Youth). This Kanuga tradition embodies the vibrancy of the national Episcopal Church and encourages participants to seek authentic connections with Christ and one another. Those who attend are empowered to build community through small group discussions, conference-wide gatherings, music, prayer, and play.
Please note that this year neither Fr. Andrew nor Anita will be available to be part of Youth Week. Also, there is no diocesan transportation provided; all attendees will need to arrange for transportation independently.
Contact office@st-gregorys.com if you'd like to attend. Scholarship and administrative assistance are available!
