IMPACT

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

ENFORCER OF COMPASSION

For those of us who know Manny, our treasured security guard, 6 days a week, we know he is much more than a protector of rules. Manny takes the time to get to know our Meals with Meaning guests. He takes the time to get to know the staff team. And he has certainly taken the time to get to know our church. He prays with us before opening the community pantry. But not before greeting our pantry guests in line. He is quick to tell folks about our church services. Manny does this while upholding our rules and regulations.

As Christ followers, we are called to give love, kindness, and compassion to all because we all want to live into our true identity of God's beloved children. Manny exemplifies this in all he does. From patrolling the parking lot while offering a gentle and friendly hello to a parishioner as they walk into church, to listening to a Meals with Meaning guest who is struggling.

On most days, Manny is the first impression of our church to newcomers. I am proud to have him represent us. Whether he is directing someone to an Al-Anon meeting upstairs, Morning Prayer, or a pantry guest to helpful resources, Manny does so with intentional focus on the person in front of him.

We are in kind, capable hands when Manny is around. He keeps us safe while caring for those around him. Who does that sound like? Thank you, Manny, for being a beautiful example of how we can be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus.

In Christ,

~Gena Vallee

MUSIC MINISTRY

A MESSAGE FROM TIM

This Sunday at the 10 am service, we will dedicate the new LEVAS II hymnals with a special dedicatory responsorial. Hymn singing is an extremely important element to our Episcopal worship, and this new supplemental hymnal has brought us a new wealth of hymns which are familiar to most of us and are ones with which I grew up, having come from the Baptist tradition. Our hymns often retell the stories of the bible and are vital to understanding our scriptures. They can also accentuate or enhance the scripture by offering new understanding through the words of some of the greatest poets known. The tunes to which our hymns are sung are richly diverse, with some being passed down from ancient Gregorian Chant and others being folk tunes or, in some cases, “bar room” tunes which were adapted into mainstream life. Others still have been composed by some of the greatest composers the world has known, such as Hubert H. Parry, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Ludwig von Beethoven, for example.

We are fortunate to have these new hymnals, and I want to thank all those individuals who donated funds to make it possible to have these in all the pews! These gifts will keep on giving for years to come.

The Choir of St. Gregory’s is on summer vacation through mid-September, and in their stead, we will welcome choral section leader Lovell Rose to the 10 am service as he sings two beautiful hymns from LEVAS II, “My Heavenly Father watches over me” and the spiritual “Give me Jesus”. Our hymns for the 10 am service will feature our new hymnal as well.

I’ll see you in church!

Blessings,

Tim

SAFETY AND SECURITY

SCAM ALERT:

SPOOFING AND PHISHING ARE ON THE RISE

We have recently been made aware of scammers spoofing St. Gregory’s personal and church office email addresses. If you ever receive an email or text that seems unusual, urgent, or requests personal or financial information, please do not respond or click on any links and alert the church office at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately, these scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

When in doubt, pause and double-check the authenticity of the sender and contact the church office at office@st-gregorys.com. We are always here for you.

Additionally, The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles warns of widespread “DMV” text scams—please remember they will never contact you by text demanding payment or threatening suspension. Learn more from the FLHSMV Scam Alert page

The Federal Bureau of Investigation advises that phishing and “smishing” (text-based scams) often try to create urgency to trick you into clicking malicious links or sharing sensitive information. The safest approach is simple: stay alert, don’t click, don’t reply, and verify through official sources. Learn more at: Spoofing and Phishing — FBI

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS

TO HONOR A LOVED ONE

OR SPECIAL OCCASION

Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $300. Your generous donation helps offset the cost of the flowers, and when multiple families sponsor together, the cost may be shared. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.

SUMMER IS HERE!

It is time

for Summer Sunday School!

June 14 - August 16

The school year is winding down, but the fun and learning don't end! As in years past, our beloved Silvia Hall will be coordinating our Summer Sunday School program.

Children 3yrs old through 5th grade are invited to participate; teens (6th-12th) are welcome to help in the classroom and get community service hours. Parent volunteers are welcome, too!

Summer Sunday School runs each Sunday from June 14 to August 16 (unless otherwise noted). Start time is 9:45 am; please meet in the Godly Play Room.

Contact Silvia Hall if you would like to volunteer or have questions.

silviahall@yahoo.com

A MESSAGE FROM SILVIA HALL:

Welcome everyone to our

Summer Sunday School 2026!

Here is a summary of what we will be doing.

In 2026, we explore the Creation of earth, the water, the land, plants, animals, and people, and we use a modified format based on Peter Priivett's “Living in a Fragile World: A Spiritual Exploration of Conservation and Citizenship Using the Methods of Godly Play”. Peter Privett was the Diocesan Millennium Officer from 1998-2001 and also the Diocesan Children's Adviser in the diocese of Hereford. He is now the International Regional Training Consultant for Godly Play.

Peter is the co-editor and a co-author of Through the Eyes of a Child. The book is divided into (5) sessions, which we will expand into 10 weeks, alternating between the script and a book related to the lesson taught the prior Sunday. The sessions will explore and nurture spiritual development through awe and wonder. It invites children and adults alike to reflect on the fragility of the earth, become more aware of the complexity of our interdependent lives, and consider how we might relate to each other in a sustainable and relational way. It also helps us to reflect and wonder that creation is divine, and that we are part of this universe, and the universe is part of us, and that we are the stewards of it and of each other.

Remember -- Parent and teen volunteers are always welcome! Please reach out to me at silviahall@yahoo.com.

GODLY PLAY NEWS – END OF REGULAR SUNDAY SCHOOL

Congratulations to Hannelene Beillard who became a certified Godly Play Practitioner this month. She started as a volunteer in our class and has been taking the online course certification.

She told the “Story of Ruth” on Sunday, May 12th to celebrate Mother’s Day.  This story teaches that God’s love is for everyone, even outsiders, as Ruth was a Moabite, a foreigner.  Ruth leaves her homeland and follows her mother-in-law, Naomi, to Bethlehem after losing her husband.  This story is also about women and resilience and how faithfulness, steadfast love and loyalty can bring light to dark times.

On Sunday, May 17th Katherine Anthony told the beloved “Holy Baptism’ story.  This story explores how water, light, and the Trinity mark a person as belonging to God’s family. We start with the three overlapping circles to the Trinity: The Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

Then we remember the light of our baptism as we lit our own candle.

I would like to thank our awesome volunteers: Victoria Hanna, Adelia McLaren, Caroline Dickson, and Margaret O’Connor.

The Godly Play method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives. The Godly Play curriculum engages what is most exciting about religious education: God inviting us into—and pursuing us during Scripture and spiritual experience.
