A VIDEO MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR
In this week's video, Fr. Andrew shares his excitement as St. Gregory’s Sunday School classes officially begin this Sunday following last week’s Meet and Greet. He also welcomes Paige Short Sleeves, Director of PEACE (People Engaged in Outward Community Efforts), who will visit St. Gregory’s to share more about the organization’s justice work throughout Palm Beach County and ways our parish may become more involved. Everyone is invited to join the conversation in the Conference Room after the 10:00 AM service. Fr. Andrew looks forward to a joyful Sunday of worship, learning, and fellowship!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
P.E.A.C.E.
MEET THE BELOVED COMMUNITY OF ST. GREGORY'S
AFTER SUNDAY'S 10 AM SERVICE
St. Gregory's is becoming more active in PEACE, which is involved in social issues affecting the daily lives of our congregants and our community.
With the support of the Beloved Community Ministry at St. Gregory’s, PEACE will guide us in creating a place for storytelling, posing questions, and voicing concerns about our local community.
To begin our journey with PEACE, the Director and Facilitator, Paige Shortsleeves from the PEACE Organization of Palm Beach County (People Engaged in Active Community Efforts) is helping us engage in an interactive listening conversation that helps us identify critical needs of our community. Issues such as immigration, housing, mental illness, and homelessness are all affecting our day-to-day lives. Many of our ministries at St. Gregory’s Church are involved in these issues, and your stories are important. Since 1991, PEACE has been an interfaith organization in Palm Beach County that has actively identified and taken action on critical community issues. PEACE encourages our faith community to engage more thoughtfully in helping to identify and help to solve social problems.
Join us Sunday at 11:45 AM in the Conference Room to have a beginning conversation on what PEACE may add to our mission and our ministries.
Blessings
-The Very Reverend Dr. Mary Ellen Cassini, Cyndi Bloom, and Robb Rusinko

YOGA MINISTRY SURVEY
St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry would like to hear from you!
Please take a moment to take the online survey.
St. Gregory's Yoga Ministry was founded and is led by Rev. Elizabeth Pankey-Warren, and the Yoga and Sacred Movement has been coordinated by congregant Daphne Lombardo. The program is now further enhanced by the skilled yoga instruction of congregants Jennifer Attonito, Susan Standbrook, and Rosie Sandoval.
As you may be aware, St. Gregory's currently offers Yoga and Sacred Movement once per month every third Thursday. There have been requests to add a second Sacred Movement class monthly. Please click the button below to complete the brief survey. Or, if you prefer, printed surveys can found on the Welcome Table in the Sanctuary and Harris Hall. Your feedback will help guide us on the feasibility and scheduling of this second class and expanding our offerings.
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU, DAPHNE LOMBARDO!
Congratulations, and huge thanks go out to Daphne Lombardo on her first anniversary leading Yoga and Sacred Movement at St. Gregory's!

A MESSAGE FROM TIM
I’m still numb at the news of Dolly Parton’s passing. She was not only a musical icon, but a true national treasure. She was American Royalty, in that she embodied the best of who we as a nation and as individuals aspire to be. Her raw gentleness, kindness, and generosity was an example of a Christ-like love which touched literally millions of lives here in the USA and around the world. Many will never know how far her philanthropic tentacles reached. I learned today of a fellow colleague in NYC who had his entire undergraduate and graduate education totally funded by Dolly because he happened to be from the same hometown in TN. She made sure that anyone from her hometown who sought higher education was able to do so. She dedicated herself to helping others, most of whom she never knew. I hope we can all find it within ourselves to be a bit more like Dolly Parton, blessing others by letting our lights shine, being that miracle in in another person’s life, and doing something good for someone without them even knowing it.
Our Summer Music Series continues this Sunday with Lovell Rose as soloist at the 10 AM. Lovell will be singing “Still, Still with Thee” by American composer and songwriter Oley Speaks (1874-1948). Speaks is best-known for “On the Road to Mandalay”, made famous by Frank Sinatra in a recording released in 1958, and he composed many religious songs during his lifetime, with “Still, Still with Thee” being one of his most popular and beautiful. Lovell will also sing a hymn which has become a favorite of so many, “His Eye is on the Sparrow” composed in 1905 by lyricist Civilla D. Martin (1866-1948) and composer Charles H. Gabriel (1856-1932). Martin was visiting a couple living with long-term disabilities in Elmira, New York, Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle, when Mrs. Doolittle expressed her faith saying, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me”. This declaration of faith inspired Martin to write the hymn that very same day, later sending it to Gabriel to compose the music.
The Choir of St. Gregory’s returns on September 20 and I can’t wait! We will be welcoming several new members, and the coming season promises to be one of our most beautiful yet.
Blessings! I’ll see you Sunday!
Tim

CANTERBURY YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
Hellos and Goodbyes
Our Canterbury Ministry is going strong with two new residents joining our Canterbury House (the 260 NE 2nd Street house, closest to our church parking lot).
This month we said fond farewells to Kimmy Wilkinson and Charles Kissel. Kimmy graduated from FAU (she was a Canterbury House “lifer” who was with us all four years of her time at FAU!) and is now pursuing other adventures in theater, communications, and related fields. Charles was with us for several months while doing an internship in structural engineering with a West Palm Beach Firm. He has returned to the University of Cincinnati to complete his studies. Both will be missed at the House!
But…life goes on, and God provides! Joining continuing residents Elijah Figueroa and Jules Hayes are Anna Ruby Whitmire and Megan Harper. Anna Ruby is pursuing a Master's in art, and Megan is working on her PhD in entrepreneurial studies. We are so thrilled to have them both!
A new and exciting venture this year will be a Canterbury Ministry Bible Study. Stay tuned as plans evolve!
Look for all our residents around St. Gregory’s as they join us for worship, service projects and special events!

SCAM ALERT:
SPOOFING AND PHISHING ARE ON THE RISE
We have recently been made aware of scammers spoofing St. Gregory’s personal and church office email addresses. If you ever receive an email or text that seems unusual, urgent, or requests personal or financial information, please do not respond or click on any links and alert the church office at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately, these scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
When in doubt, pause and double-check the authenticity of the sender and contact the church office at office@st-gregorys.com. We are always here for you.
Additionally, The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles warns of widespread “DMV” text scams—please remember they will never contact you by text demanding payment or threatening suspension. Learn more from the FLHSMV Scam Alert page
The Federal Bureau of Investigation advises that phishing and “smishing” (text-based scams) often try to create urgency to trick you into clicking malicious links or sharing sensitive information. The safest approach is simple: stay alert, don’t click, don’t reply, and verify through official sources. Learn more at: Spoofing and Phishing — FBI

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS
TO HONOR A LOVED ONE
OR SPECIAL OCCASION
| |
Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $300. Your generous donation helps offset the cost of the flowers, and when multiple families sponsor together, the cost may be shared. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.
To learn more or to get the process started, please email the church office at office@st-gregorys.com.

SAFE CHURCH POLICIES
Working to assure the safety and well-being of
our children, youth, and all members
At St. Gregory's, we work hard to follow policies and guidelines designed to keep all of us as safe and as well as possible at church. The national Episcopal Church and our diocese have set forth policies and guidelines for all parishes to aid in this effort.
With particular regard to children and youth, St. Gregory's does the following:
+ Require all who work with children and youth, as well as other staff and persons in authority, to complete the Safe Church program through our diocese.
+ Require background checks for all relevant people, including Sunday School teachers, youth ministers, clergy, and regular volunteers.
+ Comply with our diocesan policies and guidelines.
As we have said in prior communications, we cannot guarantee anyone 100% safety. However, we can -- and do -- strive to do our very best to create a loving and safe space for everyone at our church.
If you would like more information about the Safe Church program
or St. Gregory's policies, please contact:

CONFIRMATION CLASS: LIFE IN CHRIST
(Grades 6, 7, 8, and others)
This Sunday, August 30
FIRST DAY OF REGULAR CLASSES FOR ALL!
9:10 am: Confirmation Class (Conference Room)
Confirmation Class meets every Sunday at 9:10 am
during the school year in the Conference Room (unless otherwise noted).
Our journey to Confirmation for young people is a three-year program. Our program seeks to nurture the faith of our young people as they prepare for their high school years and beyond, giving them a solid foundation for a Christ-centered life. The Confirmation Class experience may also include retreats, service opportunities and other activities. All young people in grades 6, 7 and 8 can participate in and benefit from this class, regardless of whether or not they choose to be confirmed. Older teens, those transferring from other churches, or any others who are interested are most welcome to participate as well.
During Confirmation, we explore:
-- The Bible and the stories that shape our life and faith
-- A life of prayer and worship led by and replenished by the Holy Spirit
-- A life of ministry and service as disciples of Jesus

Conversation, Reflection and Prayer -- with lots of Fun and Fellowship!
WHAT DO WE DO DURING UPPER ROOM TIME?
Following our pattern of Pause, Listen, Reflect, Pray and Go,
we build on our previous themes of
What will you do with your one wild and precious life?
(based on Mary Oliver's poem The Summer Day) and
"What makes you come alive?"
(from a quote by theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman)
"Building Beloved Community"
In conjunction with St. Gregory's church-wide Beloved Community initiative we worked on how our lives and gifts reflect God's love in the world.
Theme for 2026-2027 -- "I matter. I belong. I love."
We will delve more deeply into our core identity statement:
I am a beloved child of God.
I am a member of the Body of Christ.
I have a unique calling and purpose in this world.
As we have in the past, we continue to use some Benedictine practices to bring more balance, proportion, and harmony into our lives.
| | |
SCENES FROM THE UPPER ROOM...
Sunday, August 23 was wild, wacky, and wonderful as we kicked off our 2026-2027 year in the Upper Room! We had everything from a spirited ice-breaker featuring balloons and pool noodles to quiet meditation time to a closing prayer using a modified version of the Prayer of St. Francis (see below!).
We also started a discussion about AI based on a "Would You Rather...?" question: Would you rather have AI make all major political and social organization decisions or have random people make those decisions? Lots of hands went up to get the conversation started, so we will definitely continue the discussion in one or more of our upcoming sessions.

COMING UP IN UPPER ROOM TIME!
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE, IN THE WORLD?
WHERE DOES JESUS FIGURE IN ALL THIS??
