Hello!

The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia cares for all kinds of “seedlings,” with funds focused on a variety of interests from arts and culture to youth. In this spirit of gardening and community, we’re excited to launch our new logo and branding featuring a lupin, an iconic flower found across our province. Not only do lupins help improve soil quality, but honeybees and butterflies love them. We feel this brightly coloured perennial beautifully captures the essence of what we do: nurture the growth of funds in building vibrant communities of respect, belonging and possibility across our province that have the resources to care for their own needs. We're excited to update our materials with this new branding, and turn the page on a new chapter for our organization.

Although flower season is behind us, here’s to getting out and enjoying the colours and crispness of Fall.

In the Community

We were delighted to hold our first “Communi-tea” in Portapique in late September. Not only was this an opportunity to chat with volunteers and donors, we got to tour the new hall and watch the pavilion being build “live.” To see what has been created through the Portapique Community Build Up + Project Fund is both inspiring and heartwarming. Our congratulations to all involved.

Community Services Recovery Fund

Since the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, community service organizations have struggled with increased demand for services, reduced revenues, declines in charitable giving due to the rising cost of living, and a greater need to make use of digital tools. In response, the Government of Canada created the Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF), a one-time investment to help organizations adapt, modernize, and be better equipped to improve the efficacy, accessibility, and sustainability of the services they provide.

Working with our partners Ulnooweg Indigenous Communities Foundation and the Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia, we were proud to administer CSRF in Nova Scotia, helping to facilitate over $2.3M in funding to 32 organizations including the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society, Black Educators Association, and Potlotek First Nation. See the full list of grant recipients here.

We Rise Again – Shelburne County

The impacts of the wildfires that devastated areas of our province over the summer are still being felt and will for a long time to come. In response, the We Rise Again Fund – Shelburne County was established with a $100,000 donation from an anonymous donor. We’re proud to be working with a group of passionate, community volunteers from across the County who are channeling their focus and fundraising efforts on this fund in supporting local priorities. Thank you to Paper Excellence for their generous $60,000 donation to the fund and support of community, and kudos to everyone who helped make this happen.

With a goal of raising $1 million, you, too, can support the We Rise Again Fund – Shelburne County. We all play a role in helping our neighbours and neighbourhoods rise again.

We’ve moved!

We’re excited to be in a new office and location! Our new address: 6074 Lady Hammond Road, Halifax, NS, B3K 2R7.
