Next Generation Preac her Series
Ends This Sunday, June  23rd NextGen

Tired of hearing Pastor Seth preach? Join us on Sunday morning, June 23rd, as we welcome our final up and coming young preacher to share the word with us. This series featured former FCCGE seminary intern Carolyn Lawrence, Associate Pastor of First United Church of Oak Park, Rev. Lydia Mulkey, and our own Work Camp Coordinator, Ally Vertigan, who is currently training to be an ordained chaplain. As a teaching church, we are honored to sponsor this series that celebrates the next generation of preachers.

This Week:  Ally Vertigan
Long-Time Member,
Dick Strine, Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Dick Strine's passing. Dick, 87,  was an active member of FCC for decades, always ready to welcome the stranger and spread warmth and love with a smile on his face. We extend our  condolences  to his wife of 59 years, Wilma, and all his family. Please watch for a special email going out later this afternoon with specifics on visitation at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, his service here at FCCGE, grave-side service and reception.
Tired Pilgrim Hall Getting a Facelift!
Demo begins this week!

Thanks to the generosity of many people through our Called Forward Capital Campaign,  our lower level gathering place where we host our church dinners, Advent Fests, receptions and care for our PADS guests is getting a renovation. Many talented people have worked long and hard to design a much more beautiful and user-friendly space for all of the above. The renovated hall will be aesthetically more pleasing, easier to keep clean,  serve our needs more efficiently with a better sound system and media devices and generally be a much more welcoming and tranquil space. Target finish is mid-September.  Click here to see a rendering of what it will look like. If you would like to make a contribution to the Called Forward Capital Campaign, please contact the church office  630.469.3096 ext.10.

VBS Thanks

Although we didn't physically host the Community VBS (which goes through tomorrow!), we hosted it in hard work and spirit by providing supplies and the experience of our years of providing this annual ministry.  Thank you to our Vacation Bible School volunteers, especially to the Sr Hi Youth who make VBS possible providing the bulk of our Village Chief Corps, our Crafts Leader and Team.  We could not have the fun and faith-building VBS that we do each year without our Sr Hi Youth.  Thank you to our adult volunteers as well, we invite more adults to join us for inter-generational faith-building to get to know children and youth of all ages.  Thank you to our middle school Volunteers-in-Training who stepped into their roles as budding leaders of the church.

Visual Arts Ministry
Main Gallery

There is a new exhibit in the Main Gallery, this one by Sophie George from Wheaton College. Sophie's work has been influenced by the six months she spent in rural India last year, a place she experienced as one of "coinciding stimulation and paradox, a lush and vibrant landscape and environmental decay." Her work began with sketches and notes and photos and evolved into beautiful mixed media paintings and textile designs in which she explores coinciding forms, harmony and dissonance, flatness and depth, density and breathing space. This is one exhibit you don't want to miss. Read more about Sophie.
