With heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of long-time member Jeff Holden this past week. A celebration of Jeff's life will take place on Friday, May 24th at 11 am here in our sanctuary. We send our love and condolences to the Holden family.
Pastor Kendra's Sabbatical

Almost five years ago, Pastor Kendra started her call with us here at FCCGE.  Every five years, clergy are given the opportunity for Sabbatical, and Pastor Kendra will be taking hers this summer, June 3- September 3.  Sabbatical is intentional covenantal time away from the ministry of the church. While we will miss Pastor Kendra, we are blessed to have Pastor Seth and an amazing staff to care for us during the summer and Pastor Kendra looks forward to being back with us to kick off the church year this fall!
Meet Robin Lovett Owen, Summer Intern
June 2nd

Robin is a student at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and in the ordination process in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She is originally from Tennessee, where she loved to go for hikes in the Smokey Mountains. She is passionate about ministry with young people, including in campus ministry and in congregations, and has worked in a variety of contexts with them. She is especially excited about working with the youth at FCCGE because of the creative, engaging, and empowering way young people are engaged. In her spare time, she likes to run, cook and bake, go on long walks with her dog and spouse, and work on various art projects. She also loves good coffee, good podcasts, traveling and delicious food.
AnnualMeet

Member Outreach

Expect a phone call from one of your fellow congregation members in the next few weeks.  As part of the mission of the Connections Committee, all members of our congregation will be contacted by phone call to give the opportunity to express your feelings about what the Church can do to make your worship and membership experiences better.  What would you like to see more of, or less of?  Is there anything new you'd like to see incorporated in our church life?   Also, would you, or any family member or friend, find comfort in being added to our prayer list, or benefit from Pastoral Care?  Any input you can share will be greatly appreciated in helping to build a stronger church community.

Tech Team Needs YOU!

Looking for a way to help out at FCCGE but don't have a lot of time? Consider joining our Tech Team. They are those awesome people you see at the sound board in the back of the sanctuary every week recording worship and special services. You don't have to have sophisticated knowledge of all things techy-it's easy work and you'll be trained. The really boss thing is that it requires attendance at only one service per month. Low key, fun and a great way to contribute. Click here to fill out this quick form and someone will get back to you.

Social Justice Group
May 20, 7 pm

On May 20 at 7pm the Social Justice Discussion Group will view the film Segregated by Design, which examines the forgotten history of how our federal, state and local governments unconstitutionally segregated every major metropolitan area in America during the mid twentieth century. The film is 15 minutes long so we will have time for discussion, which will include ideas on how we can act to remedy the past.

All are welcome, including high school students. We will meet in the all purpose room. Questions? Contact Ida Hagman 630 660 3363.

FCCGE is privileged to host the U of I Concert Choir Reunion Concert on Saturday, June 8 at 7 pm in the sanctuary. Some of our members are a part of this fabulous choir. Please join us and bring friends. The concert is free and a free will offering will be available to benefit our music ministry.
Mother's Day Made Special with Men's Chorus

Every Mother's Day we here at FCCGE are treated to a song performed by the Men's Chorus. The chorus is not always the same people year to year so we are treated to a different blend of voices. This year they performed  the traditional Scottish piece"Loch Lomand". Our Hecht family was fortunate enough to have 3 generations of Hecht men singing this year.
Summer Musicians Needed

Solo singers and instrumentalists (youth and adults)  contact
Michele Hecht, Director of Music Ministry about performing in worship this summer.    Hurry before the dates fill up!

Girls Next Door Concert a Delight

The University of Illinois' accapella women's group, Girls Next Door brought us an evening of upbeat music and awesome harmonies last night.  Our own Charlotte Graham has been a member of GND for 4 years and we shared in her last concert with the group (a girl's gotta graduate!) Best of luck, Charlotte and thank you for bringing more of God's gift of music to our members and friends! See pictures and short videos from the evening!

Sing with the Women's Chorus for Father's Day!

All are welcome.  Three rehearsals on Thu, June 6, Sun, June 9, Thu, June 13 @ 7pm. Perform in worship on Sun, June 16.  Contact Michele Hecht

Bowled Over by Barbershoppers

Harmony, Inc. International Champions 20 times over, the  Village Vocal Chords women's barbershop chorus from Glen Ellyn wowed a crowd at FCCGE last week with their exciting program of music through the ages. You may recognize FCCGE member Kathy Snowdell in the group! The chorus rehearses at 7:00 p.m. every Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, on Butterfield Rd. in Glen Ellyn, and they welcome anyone and everyone to sit in on a rehearsal and give it a try. We are so fortunate to have these talented musicians right in our own backyard! The freewill offering raised over $400 for the FCCGE music ministry, which can be used for guest musicians, choir trip scholarships or new music and equipment.
Hecht Quartet Closes Sunday's Service with a Gentle Breeze

Our Mother's Day worship was full of special music. Our own Hecht quartet sent us on our way with Michele Hecht's beautiful arrangement of the Gaelic Blessing. (Due to technical difficulties, we are unable to post last week's video, however here is the quartet performing the song a couple of years ago!)

Visual Arts Ministry
Main Gallery

There is a new exhibit in the Main Gallery, this one by Sophie George from Wheaton College. Sophie's work has been influenced by the six months she spent in rural India last year, a place she experienced as one of "coinciding stimulation and paradox, a lush and vibrant landscape and environmental decay." Her work began with sketches and notes and photos and evolved into beautiful mixed media paintings and textile designs in which she explores coinciding forms, harmony and dissonance, flatness and depth, density and breathing space. This is one exhibit you don't want to miss. Read more about Sophie.

Artists in Residence Gallery

Last chance to see Ashley Giampoli's photos from her travels to Africa, Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands. This exhibit comes down after services on the 19th, when the Artists in Residence Gallery will close for the summer during construction on Pilgrim Hall. Be sure to stop down there this week to see it!
