Emergency Planning at FCCGE

The recent tragedy at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh has been foremost on the minds and hearts of many of us. We have compassion and heartache for the victims and their families. With this in mind, we want to make you aware of the detailed emergency plan we have been working on at Church. There has been a plan in place for several years, but starting this past September, a committee of Staff and Church Council members, have been revising and updating our emergency procedures for such situations as fire, tornado, and intruder emergencies. The work of this committee has included consultation with the Glen Ellyn Police Department and is scheduled to be completed this fall. Beginning in 2019, we will share key parts of the plan with the Congregation, in order to prepare for potential emergencies, as well as to conduct training for key staff and volunteer leaders. As with all such plans, we hope to never have to implement its components, however, being prepared and thoughtful on how to best protect our Congregation is of the utmost importance.

Visual Arts Ministry (VAM)
Main Gallery

You may have heard about the recent formation of a partnership between FCCGE and Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation (PBMR). PBMR is a nonprofit restorative justice hub located in the "Back of the Yards" neighborhood in Chicago. Sharing in Christ's mission of reconciliation, they work as agents of reconciliation and healing with those in the community and the Church who have been impacted by violence and conflict. Their work includes support for children and youth, families (particularly mothers), and detention (those incarcerated, often due to connections with gun violence). They have a commitment to the belief that the arts enable those impacted by trauma to tell their story in ways not otherwise possible, and that art can be instrumental in the healing process. We are blessed to have in our main gallery some of the art created over the past few years by members of the PBMR community. The messages conveyed by the work are simple, honest, and incredibly powerful. Handouts with more information about PBMR are available in the gallery.

Visual Arts Ministry (VAM) Artists in Residence Gallery

Haruo Kurokawa's oil paintings are on display in the Artists in Residence gallery. An oil painter since early retirement from an industrial design career in 2003, Haruo's favorite subjects to paint are landscapes and scenes from nature. Be sure to introduce yourself to Haruo, if you don't already know him, and stop by the gallery to see his wonderful work.
