Living on a Budget

Approximately 130 Bishop Hartley seniors got to experience real life through completing Real Money. Real World. This youth-focused financial literacy program includes an interactive spending simulation that provides the opportunity to make lifestyle and budget choices similar to those made by 27-year-old adults. Students get a perspective the cost required to maintain a household and care for a child.

The Bishop Hartley seniors shared their surprise at the cost of food and proclaimed how grateful they are for their parents. They also noted that it is important to budget and to prioritize needs vs. wants. Check out the Real Money. Real World. program here.

Recruiting Underway for Next Master Gardener Volunteer Class

The largest Master Gardener Volunteer program in Ohio will grow larger when it adds a new class of interns in 2024. The next new training class for Master Gardener Volunteers in Franklin County will be held on Fridays from January 12 through March 29, 2024. Applications for a seat in the class are due August 31, 2023. Individuals interested in applying for a seat in the class must attend one of three community orientation meetings in order to receive an application. For a flyer listing the dates, times, and locations of these orientation meetings scheduled for this summer, please go to: go.osu.edu/FCMGVorientation.

Master Gardener Volunteers extend the gardening resources and expertise of Ohio State University Extension to communities and individuals throughout Franklin County. Master Gardener Volunteers manage community garden projects, assist with gardening research and demonstration projects, and conduct gardening educational programs for adults and youth in a variety of locations and formats. Master Gardener Volunteers are changing the world, one garden at a time.

Join Us & Give Back to Our Community

Join us for the 2023 Franklin County 4-H Walk and Serve and Clover 5K. Held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds, we are excited to welcome any one with a passion for giving back to their community. This year, Franklin County 4-H Clubs have adopted 15 non-profit organizations through central Ohio to provide a community service project that will benefit their work in the community. Organizations such as Project Linus, Blue Star Mothers, MASH Food Pantry, Clintonville Beechwold Community Resource Center, and many more will receive items made by visitors during the event. April 15 is Earth Day and we are excited to share that we are partnering with Go Green Hilliard to celebrate during the Walk & Serve and Clover 5K event. We hope that you will join us on Saturday, April 15, from 9:30-Noon to give back to our community!
