Sermon Series: Thrill of Hope (Advent Season)

No other season of the year has a soundtrack quite like Christmas. Turn on the radio during the month of December and it's impossible not to find at least one station that plays Christmas music around the clock. Perhaps even more impressive, though, is the fact that Christmas has its own genre of music. We call them carols. And whether you're gone to church all of your life or you've never darkened it's doors, chances are good that many of our most well-known Christmas carols can be sung by heart.

Join us on Sunday, November 28th, as we start a brand new Advent and Christmas sermon series: "A Thrill of Hope." Together, we'll look at some of our most well-known and beloved Christmas carols and discover what they teach us about the hope, peace, joy, and love of the miracle of Christmas.

This week's sermon title: Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
by Rev. Jeremy Lawson
Scripture: Jeremiah 33:14-16

If you’ve been in the church long enough, you know that before we arrive at the miracle of Christmas, we celebrate a season called Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word, ‘adventus,’ which means “coming” or “to come.” And that’s ultimately what Advent is all about—it’s a season of waiting for Jesus’ arrival into our world. Today, we’ll look at the one of the most well-known Advent carols, “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus,” and together we’ll discover what it teaches us about hope.

We look forward to seeing you either in person or via live stream this Sunday, November 28 at 9:15 am or 11:00 am.

We look forward to seeing you Sunday as we kick off the
Advent Season!

#3. Holiday Giving - Angel Tree
Sign up to sponsor a child starting Sunday, November 28!

Every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. Again, this year, our Angel Tree program is going to be focused on those children from our Pantry families. Each week, we serve hundreds of Pantry families who aren't able to give their children a special Christmas. We are asking our congregants to sponsor an angel on our tree that represents one of these Pantry children. On your Angel Tag, you will see an ask for 1-2 clothing items and 1-2 toys from their Christmas list.

You can pick up a name during our in-person worship service on Sunday, November 28. Drop off days are Sundays, December 5th and December 12th.

More information can be found on hmumc.org. Thank you for making their Christmas a special one!

Visit our Holiday Giving webpage for all the ways you can give to our church and community this holiday season.

The Hamilton Mill United Methodist Women are excited to invite you to the annual Women's Christmas dinner in our HMUMC Worship Center. Please join us for an evening of fellowship, fun, and faith as we support the Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers. This year's theme is "Follow the Star," and we can't wait to celebrate the Advent season with you. The evening includes a sit-down dinner and a special program that will prepare your hearts for the season of Advent. The cost of the event is $30, which covers the entertainment and delicious dinner catered by Spice of Life.

Help support the Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers
We invite you to help us "Follow the Star" by supporting the Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers, an independent, not-for-profit organization committed to meeting the needs of abused and neglected young people. CLICK HERE to learn more about Murphy-Harpst and for a list of needed items. Please choose from the suggested items and bring your gift, unwrapped, to the dinner on December 3rd or donate via the Amazon Wishlist. Thank you for following the STAR and helping children in need.

Create a Table Centerpiece
This year's sign-up includes the option to decorate a centerpiece for a table at the Women's Christmas Dinner. Due to COVID, we will be using mostly disposable items for serving the food and drinks which is a bit different than in past years. You will have the option to "host" a table and help add some beautiful color to it. It is a beautiful tradition that the tables at this event are individually decorated by women in the church who generously volunteer their holiday decorating expertise. We've made decorating a table easier this year - CLICK HERE to learn more!

Guys, Join the Fun!
We are looking for a few good men to serve as our waiters for the evening. Guys, please email Faith Kriesel at fkriesel609@gmail.com to join our Waiter Team.

We can't wait to celebrate this season with you!
