HPPC WELCOMES CINDY DICKEN,
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN'S
AND FAMILY MINISTRY
| |
Dear Friends,
I am thrilled to let you know that the Search Team for our new Director of Children's and Family Ministry has concluded their work. They are excited to share with you how God is at work and the person he brought to be in ministry with us and with our kids.
The team has selected Cindy Dicken to be our new Director. Cindy has a formal teacher's education, a master's degree, experience teaching children music, and lots of experience with kids in churches. She is a mature believer who "gets" ministry and can articulate her faith well. She is motivated by sharing the love of Jesus with kids. Cindy is also super creative and energetic. She likes to laugh. She's excited to grow the ministry. The whole search team unanimously believes God is calling Cindy to us and that she will be GREAT for kids and families.
As we do with all our candidates, we put Cindy through the wringer! She had multiple interviews, met parents at a BBQ who provided great feedback, taught kids a lesson we observed, had references checked, and more. EVERYTHING was GREAT at EVERY step.
I am so pleased and so is the search team: Allan Scruggs (elder for this ministry area and parent), Amber Wagenblast (parent), Hillary Ham (parent), and Joe Bruce. I want to thank them all for serving. Give them a big high-five when you see them. We all feel like the search could not have ended up better!
Cindy will start half-time on August 30 and move to full-time on Sept. 12.
We will make a formal announcement soon and plan ways to welcome Cindy, but we wanted to let you know this good news as soon as possible.
Peace in Christ,
Steve

WOULD YOU LIKE PASTORAL CARE OR A VISIT?
Throughout Covid, pastors and members of the congregational care team have continued our ministry of visiting and offering care. However, care and visits are now complicated. Institutional rules and safety precautions can even prevent visitations. If you would like a visit or call, please reach out any time. We are proactive in visiting people, but we also need to hear from anyone who would like a connection so that we don’t miss anyone in need. The pastors can be reached by email, cell phone, or through the church office. Hamblen is a church family. May the Lord continue to connect us with one another in safe ways even during the pandemic.
Come Sing with the Choir!
The Chancel Choir has had a restful summer break and is now recruiting new members for the fall! We have members of all music-reading ability levels, so if you love singing, you'll fit right in! Even if you can’t commit to the entire program year, come sing with us on weeks that you are able.
Rehearsals are on Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 pm in the sanctuary, and we gather at 8:30 on Sunday mornings (a half hour prior to worship). Contact Kyla Fague at kylaf@hamblenpres.org or 509-270-6848 for more information or if you are interested in joining this great community. We begin rehearsing on Thursday, September 8. The choir’s first Sunday in worship will be September 18. We hope to see you in the choir loft!

Join Us in Thanking Annie Flood on September 4
Annie Flood, our organist, pianist, and vocalist, is moving from Spokane and leaving her roles with Gonzaga and with us. It's been a joy to serve in ministry with Annie. She has brought wonderful musical gifts and a positive spirit. It's hard to say goodbye, but we look forward to continued friendship with her. Please join us on Sept. 4, when we will thank Annie in our worship service and give her a "card shower." Bring a thank-you card and eat some cake.

Paid Nursery Help Needed Urgently
We are currently understaffed in the nursery and are attempting to hire but have had no applicants. If you are over 18 and would be willing to work in the nursery one or two Sunday mornings a month or an occasional weekday evening, you would be a great blessing to those depending on the nursery. We want everyone to feel comfortable attending worship services or other events at Hamblen with their families and hope to continue offering childcare services to ensure families feel welcome. If you are able, please help us continue to provide this important service to our congregation and visitors. Please contact Jessica Munroe for more information at jessicadmunroe@gmail.com.
