WORSHIP WITH US

This year we prepare for Easter by intentionally growing as followers of Jesus. We'll explore themes from C.S. Lewis's book The Screwtape Letters, which will help us examine our Christian lives in ways that will be new to most people. You may choose to read along as the sermon series progresses and/or use the devotional guide. Neither of those activities is needed to be part of Sunday mornings. They are options you might consider.

Lent

Wednesday Morning Bible Study: Practices on the Path

Lent is a season that invites us to return to the path of discipleship. During the six weeks of Lent, our Wednesday morning Bible study will explore texts from the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John to discover the spiritual practices Jesus models for us. We’ll find ourselves drawn to deeper humility, trust, and faithfulness. Our time will encourage us to dive deeper into the scriptures from this year’s church Lenten study guide. Join us Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Skylight Room.

Open Palms Service Day

All Generations Serving Together

On Palm Sunday, March 24, 10:30-noon, our high schoolers will lead this intergenerational event. Be part of packing up to 12,000 meals for those in need in the Spokane community. All ages (families with preschoolers through 100+ years old) are invited to help!

THIS WEEK'S NEWS

What’s Generation Alive?

Want to know more about the non-profit we’ll be working with for our upcoming intergenerational service project? Join us after church THIS Sunday, March 17, at 10:15am in the Skylight Room to learn about the non-profit Generation Alive! We’ll hear from JJ Vancil, their Executive Director, about the kind of work they do, learn from their mission, and explore potential ways to further partner with them.

Grounds Clean-Up Day

Help us get our building and grounds ready to welcome guests for Easter! We will be meeting next Saturday, March 23, at 11:45 for a pizza lunch, then we will work until 2 PM

Bring your work gloves, rakes, clippers, anything that can be used to beautify our flower beds and lawn. For more information, contact Heather Notske at 509-385-0627 or [email protected]. Hope to see you there!

Spring Flower Basket Fundraiser

Help the HPPC Preschool raise funds toward a new outdoor play structure by purchasing a spring hanging planter. Baskets will be full of colorful, sun-loving flowering annuals, planted in a 12” hanging basket. Price is $36 per planter. Baskets will be available for pickup the week of April 15. Order forms available HERE or at the information center in the church entry. Turn in order forms at the church office by Monday, April 8.

Special Children's Sunday School Classes Continue This Sunday

Kids 1st-5th grades are invited to join us as we continue our special Sunday School classes and learn about worship and communion together on March 17. This will help us understand what happens in the sanctuary every Sunday and what it means to celebrate the Lord's Supper. This Sunday, head to the Skylight Room after the Children's Sermon!

Book Club

You can join the Book Club for a discussion in the Fellowship Hall on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1 PM. For more information, contact Betty Thompson at [email protected]. Our next meeting is March 21, during which we will discuss Hiding in the Spotlight by Greg Dawson.

If you would like to get started reading the book selection for next month’s meeting, we will be discussing Sold on a Monday by Kristina McMorris. Inspired by an actual newspaper photograph that stunned the nation, it's the story of a mother facing impossible choices during the Great Depression.

Senior Exercise Opportunity for March

Have you thought about trying Tai Chi? Join us to sample a way to improve balance and lower body strength in one or all of our free 60-minute exercise classes at 1:00 PM on these Thursdays in March:

  • 3/14 Fellowship Hall
  • 3/21 Skylight Room

Sandy Nolting is trained in Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance. She will guide you in an introduction to this evidenced-based practice for fall reduction. Dress comfortably, bring water, and invite a friend or family member. Class is mostly standing but can be modified if you need to stay seated.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

One Great Hour of Sharing

Join with Presbyterians worldwide in sharing God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world by providing relief from natural disasters, food for the hungry, and support for the poor and oppressed. Learn more HERE.

Be a part of the HPPC Outreach Ministry Team

Have you felt a prompting to participate in ministering to those in our congregation who are no longer in a position to regularly attend or actively participate in the life of the church? This may be as an individual reaching out OR an individual wishing to be connected -- call or text small group facilitator Betty Rogers (509) 230-7967.

Family Promise

Members of Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church have always volunteered to support Family Promise. In previous years, we’ve had families spending nights at our church and we have taken meals to families in their group homes.

Many changes have taken place within the Family Promise organization. There are new opportunities for individuals and groups to support their mission. You may sign up for individual opportunities by clicking on this link: [email protected]

You can also sign up to go to one of their open houses by looking for COME & SEE on their website: www.familypromiseofspokane.org

We all have talents that we can share. Thank you for considering how you can make a difference in reaching out to our mission partners and stay tuned for group activities you can participate in.

Sign Up for an Office Volunteer Shift

Are you interested in helping out in the office on a weekly or as-needed basis? We are looking for a few people who would be willing to:

  • Answer the phones for an hour or two at a time
  • Help with occasional mailings

If you would be interested in helping in any of these ways, sign up HERE. For questions, contact Heather Notske at 509-385-0627 or [email protected].
