WORSHIP WITH US

This year we prepare for Easter by intentionally growing as followers of Jesus. We'll explore themes from C.S. Lewis's book The Screwtape Letters, which will help us examine our Christian lives in ways that will be new to most people. You may choose to read along as the sermon series progresses and/or use the devotional guide. Neither of those activities is needed to be part of Sunday mornings. They are options you might consider.

  • Pastor Jennie is leading a Lenten small group on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Thomas Hammer on Grand. We will discuss material from the church devotional as we enjoy a delicious beverage or treat together. Dates: February 21, 28, March 6, 13, 20.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study: Practices on the Path

Lent is a season that invites us to return to the path of discipleship. During the six weeks of Lent, our Wednesday morning Bible study will explore texts from the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John to discover the spiritual practices Jesus models for us. We’ll find ourselves drawn to deeper humility, trust, and faithfulness. Our time will encourage us to dive deeper into the scriptures from this year’s church Lenten study guide. Join us Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Skylight Room.

Open Palms Service Day

Intergenerational Guatemala Trip

Informational Meeting THIS Sunday

We are planning an intergenerational trip to see our friends and colleagues in Coban, Guatemala. Our high school group is attending once again this summer—if you are a current high school freshman or older, we hope you’ll consider joining us (parents can come too)! The dates of the trip are August 17 through 24. We plan to spend two days with our friends at La Libertad school, continuing our relationship with students and staff, and encouraging their education. They are dreaming of an expanded library! We also hope to visit Puerta Abierta, encouraging them and perhaps helping them build a sensory garden on their property at Lake Atitlan!

Lots of details are still to be determined, but this Sunday, 3/10 at 5:00pm in the Skylight Room is our Informational Meeting! Commitment deadline is Sunday, 3/24. Contact Mary Mattie at 509-998-9646, [email protected], Joe Bruce at 509-954-3041, [email protected], or Mitchel Pierce at 206-739-6126, [email protected] with any questions.

Special Children's Sunday School Classes Continue This Sunday

Kids 1st-5th grades are invited to join us as we continue our special Sunday School classes and learn about worship and communion together on March 10 & 17. These classes will help us understand what happens in the sanctuary every Sunday and what it means to celebrate the Lord's Supper. This Sunday, head to the Skylight Room after the Children's Sermon!

HPPC provides scholarships for half of the cost for camp. To receive a code for the 50% scholarship, contact Sandy Riebe before you register at [email protected]. Registration will open March 11, on the camp website at campspalding.org. Register early to reserve your spot!

New Grief Support Group Starting THIS Monday

Grief looks different for everyone and processing feelings with others can be a huge help. Join Heather Notske for a new grief group that will meet 2nd Mondays at 1:30 PM at the church, starting March 11. Other dates are April 8, May 13, and June 10. We will take a break over the summer.

This will be a safe place for people to share how they are coping with the loss of a loved one--spouse, parent, family member, or friend. Come when you can, you do not need to be at every session. There is no cost to attend.

If you have any questions, please call Heather's direct office line (509-385-0627) or email her at [email protected]. Hope to see you there!

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

One Great Hour of Sharing

Did you know that most youth in Guatemala only have school opportunities through sixth grade? This year, your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing will help provide job training for teens in Guatemala through the Self-Development of People Project. Click HERE to learn more about this important program.

Family Promise

Members of Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church have always volunteered to support Family Promise. In previous years, we’ve had families spending nights at our church and we have taken meals to families in their group homes.

Many changes have taken place within the Family Promise organization. There are new opportunities for individuals and groups to support their mission. You may sign up for individual opportunities by clicking on this link: [email protected]

You can also sign up to go to one of their open houses by looking for COME & SEE on their website: www.familypromiseofspokane.org

We all have talents that we can share. Thank you for considering how you can make a difference in reaching out to our mission partners and stay tuned for group activities you can participate in.

Small Group Forming: Ministering to the Homebound

Have you felt a prompting to participate in ministering to the homebound? If so, a small group is forming facilitated by Betty Rogers to pray for, connect with, and bring community to those in

our congregation who are no longer in a position to physically attend or actively participate in the life of the church.

If you feel prompted to be part of this small group in any capacity (either to reach out to a homebound individual OR a homebound individual wishing to be connected with someone on the team), please call or text Betty at (509) 230-7967.

Sign Up for an Office Volunteer Shift

Are you interested in helping out in the office on a weekly or as-needed basis? We are looking for a few people who would be willing to:

  • Answer the phones for an hour or two at a time
  • Help with occasional mailings

If you would be interested in helping in any of these ways, sign up HERE. For questions, contact Heather Notske at 509-385-0627 or [email protected].
