Current Mask Guidelines

Please wear your mask in the church building. We are implementing the statewide mask mandate for indoor settings. This includes vaccinated individuals. We do this, not out of fear, but as an act of love for our neighbors in the Spokane community and to practice Romans 13:1.
We are booming!

Volunteers are needed for several ministries. One urgent need is for ushers on Sunday mornings. Sign up at hamblenpres.org/signup.

NEWS TO NOTE
Would you like Pastoral Care or a Visit?

Throughout Covid, pastors and members of the congregational care team have continued our ministry of visiting and offering care. However, care and visits are now complicated. Institutional rules and safety precautions can even prevent visitations. If you would like a visit or call, please reach out any time. We are proactive in visiting people, but we also need to hear from anyone who would like a connection so that we don’t miss anyone in need. The pastors can be reached by email, cell phone, or through the church office. Hamblen is a church family. May the Lord continue to connect us with one another in safe ways even during the pandemic.
Mardi-what?

There are more than 1,800 homeless women living in Spokane each day. Meeting their basic needs can be a struggle for agencies serving this population. Spokane Mardi Bra aims to change that. Please help the Mission and Service Committee collect items to share with several of our partner agencies during the month of February. You can share donations that would help promote dignity to a woman struggling with homelessness. The collection barrel will be in the narthex – bring what you can to the church. Call 509-389-9858 for no-contact collection from your front door. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ and bringing dignity to His children.

Most needed items:

Underwear, deodorant, bras, bus passes, reading glasses, socks, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.
Top of the Hill Postponed Again

We are going to wait at least one more month before resuming Top of the Hill programs. Watch your email and the Sunday bulletin for information on our next program--hopefully in March!
Congregational Meeting

The annual congregational meeting will be held on February 13, following the worship service. We will approve the Pastor’s terms of call, elect additional officers and members of special committees, and receive ministry reports. We typically have a fun congregational meal at this time, but planning for that or something else is still underway due to the pandemic. Stay tuned.
February Blood Drive

Due to staffing issues, Vitalant is unable to staff a blood drive at Hamblen in February.
Vitalant is asking us to donate blood during a blood drive at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, located at 4320 S. Conklin Street, on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
An appointment is required to donate. Please sign up online at bit.ly/Feb22BloodDrive.

If you have any questions, or are unable to sign up online, please contact Jill Reuter at [email protected] or 509-599-2689

There is a national blood shortage due to the pandemic. If you’ve had COVID-19 and have been symptom-free for 14 days, you are eligible to donate. Whatever your COVID-19 vaccination status, you are allowed to give blood or platelets. If you are able, please consider donating blood.  Thank you!
HPPC Book Club
The HPPC Book Club's selection for February is The Widow’s War by Sally Gunning. When Lyddie Berry’s husband is lost in a storm at sea, she finds that her status as a widow is vastly changed from that of respectable married woman. Now she is the “dependent” of her nearest male relative—her son-in-law. Refusing to bow to societal pressure that demands she cede everything that she and her husband worked for, Lyddie becomes an outcast from family, friends, and neighbors—yet ultimately discovers a deeper sense of self and, unexpectedly, love. Read this story set in a colonial New England whaling village, and join the discussion on Thursday, February 17, at 2 PM. For more information, contact Betty Thompson at [email protected].
A Note from Hamblen Park Elementary
Snow Patrol

If you would like to sign up in advance for a specific day that you would be willing to snow blow our sidewalks, we would love to hear from you! We have a snow blower, shovels, and de-icer. Training can be provided! Sign up for one day this season or volunteer for multiple days--your choice! If interested, contact Heather Notske at 509-385-0627 or [email protected].
HOW WE'RE HELPING OTHERS
Building Christ's Community

World Relief expects that 200 refugees from Afghanistan will be coming to Spokane. They have a need for Welcome Kits to prepare homes for families fleeing violence and danger. Use this link, bit.ly/WorldReliefWelcomeKits to review the kits: kitchen, linen, cleaning, elementary, or middle and high school kits, how to assemble and deliver a kit.

Thank you for building God's kingdom in Spokane!
Moran Vista Ministry Opportunities

We need worship leaders for once-a-month Sunday worship services at Moran Vista. The service begins at 2:00 pm. Worship leadership needs include a musician, a song leader, and someone to provide an inspiring reading or a simple sermon.

If you would like more information or would like to volunteer for these Moran Vista ministries, contact Joe Bruce at his desk, 509-385-0626. You can also email [email protected].
Bite2Go

Volunteers may sign up HERE for delivery of Bite2Go food kits to Hamblen Elementary. We are again supporting 20 students with Bite2Go take-home meal supplements this school year. Your support has been tremendous the last several years and we look forward to your continued commitment. Volunteers are needed to pick up food at 2nd Harvest and drop off at Hamblen Elementary. Monetary donations help fund the program, which is $5.00 per week, per student. For those who wish to give support through monetary donations, please designate them for ‘Bite2go’.  You can find instructions and a map to Second Harvest HERE. For questions, call Karen Kelly at 509-599-7518. Thank you for committing to this ministry.

Boundless Grace at the Boundaries: Jesus’ Mission on the Margins in the Gospel of Luke

Throughout the gospel of Luke, we see Jesus teaching, healing, and serving those his society cast aside and ignored. Folks on the margins became bearers of Jesus’ reign as they embraced his truth and forgiveness. This winter we’ll go to the margins with Jesus and explore ways God is calling and sending us to unexpected people and places. Join us Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Skylight Room (or on Zoom--watch your email for the link).
Upcoming Meeting for Deborah Circle

Deborah Circle is meeting in person Monday, February 7, at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall!!!

We are a ministry and fellowship group that meets the first Monday of each month (except July and August) to share in fellowship as we make articles to share with those in need. We would like to invite all women of the church to join us as we gather to participate in a busy morning workshop, lunch (bring your own lunch; dessert and coffee will be provided), and a brief meeting to design and plan for the many items we donate yearly to schools, shelters, and care centers of our city. We have been busy individually during the Covid pandemic and are excited to be meeting again. Come and join us!

Second grade through fifth grade continue their fun using the rotation model. Each week students will investigate a Bible hero as they rotate through food, games, computer, video, and science sites throughout the building.
