WORSHIP WITH US

Join us for the sermon series "8 Degrees of Separation: The Deadly Sins and the Remedies of Grace" by our guest Dr. Keith Wyma. As early as the 4th century, Christians have counted "Seven Deadly Sins" or "Eight Evil Thoughts" that separate us from God and one another. But, more importantly, Christians have affirmed the grace that sets believers free from these sins. By exploring the remedies of grace connected to this ancient list, we will reclaim grace for ourselves and discover how the grace of Jesus impacts all the areas of our lives.

Join us for In-Person Worship on Sunday Mornings at 9 AM!

  • Masks are optional.
  • Nursery care is provided.
  • Communion is served in factory-sealed packets the first Sunday of the month.
  • Children's Sunday School is available for ages 3-yrs through 5th grade after the Junior Sermon.

THIS WEEK'S NEWS

Greetings from Pastor Steve

Pastor Steve had a "town day" and was able to send us an update. He is at mile 150 on the Pacific Crest Trail. He just has to go that same distance 17 more times, and then he'll be done! Things are going super well. He is meeting very interesting people and being very challenged. He sends his best to everyone!

Women's Spring Fellowship THIS Saturday

Women of all ages are invited to a spring fellowship on Saturday, May 13, at 1:30 PM. There will be dessert, and the very popular Canterbury Belles, a girl’s singing ensemble from Ferris High School, will provide entertainment. You can sign up at the Information Center in the church entry or by calling the office at 509-385-0619. For more information, contact Janet Ray at [email protected].

Graduating Seniors

As the school year is wrapping up, many of our students are closing one chapter of their lives and beginning another. It has been a long journey, with many challenges and a lot of hard work! This Sunday, we'll recognize the hard work that they have put in, and all of the support that their families have given over the many years. We invite you to pray for these students by name as they prepare to enter a new stage of life:

Virtual Journey to Guatemala on May 24

Join us for CEDEPCA’s next Virtual Journey to Guatemala on May 24, “Lessons from Tamar and José.” In this Virtual Journey, in English and open to all, we will show how CEDEPCA is seeking to eliminate gender-based violence by offering transformative workshops for groups of adolescent girls and boys. Participants will understand the context of domestic violence in Guatemala, experience firsthand one of the lessons from CEDEPCA’s unique curriculum, and leave with hope that God is doing miraculous work in the lives of girls, boys, and their families.

Date: Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Time: 4:30 PM Pacific

Book Club

You can join the Book Club for a discussion in the Fellowship Hall on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 2 PM. For more information, contact Betty Thompson at [email protected]. Our last meeting before the summer break is May 18, during which we will discuss Horseback Honeymoon by Dorothy Ballard, Ellen and Quincy Scott.

If you would like to get started reading the book selection for October's meeting, we will be discussing West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. Part adventure, part historical saga, and part coming-of-age love story, West with Giraffes explores what it means to be changed by the grace of animals, the kindness of strangers, the passing of time, and a story told before it’s too late.

2023/24 Reading List:

October: West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge

November: The Book of Longing by Sue Monk Kidd

January: This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger

February: Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan

March: Hiding in the Spotlight by Greg Dawson

April: Sold On a Monday by Kristina McMorris

May: The Songs We Hide by Connie Hampton Connally

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Guatemala Team Fundraiser Breakfast on May 21

Share a meal around a table with your friends from the congregation, or with newly made friends. The Guatemala Team is sponsoring a breakfast right after service in the fellowship hall on May 21. Proceeds will help underwrite our trip to Coban, Guatemala in August. We go to represent you and continue to build our relationship with La Libertad School. We have been working with this community for five years, helping the students become readers and equipping the teachers with skills to facilitate reading comprehension and enjoyment.

Register to Attend or Volunteer for VBS

We are so excited for this year’s VBS! We will learn all about how God uses the Twists & Turns in our lives for our good! It’s all happening June 26-30, 2023, 9am-12pm. The cost is $25/child or $40/family. The registration link is now open at www.hamblenpres.org/vbsregistration! If you are able to volunteer your time to help out with VBS, you can sign up at bit.ly/HPPCvolunteerVBS2023. We need your help to make this year’s VBS a life-changing experience for our kids! If you are not able to volunteer your time, you will also have the opportunity to donate needed items for VBS. We will soon have a sign up for different things we need to make this exciting program a success! Thank you for your support!

Calling All 3rd and 4th Graders!

Are you interested in becoming an acolyte and assisting in worship services? We have a short meeting and training session for potential acolytes and their parents coming up June 4, immediately after the service. We will meet at the front row of the sanctuary. Please respond to Kathy Williams at [email protected] to let me know if your child is interested or not.

Want to Provide Treats for Coffee Hour One Sunday?
