WORSHIP WITH US
Churches like Hamblen are needed more than ever. Our witness during the pandemic and our love for neighbors spoke volumes to people about the gospel of Jesus Christ. As all churches face post-pandemic challenges, we explore how much God’s mission matters. It’s a mission worth our time, talent, and treasure. It even gives our lives significance. Growing active followers of Jesus Christ and building his community matters to us and to the world around us.
Join us for In-Person Worship on Sunday mornings at 9 AM!

  • The Pew Pads are back! You no longer need to register or sign in on Sunday mornings.
  • Masks required in accordance with the statewide mandate.
  • Nursery care provided.
  • Communion served in factory-sealed packets the first Sunday of the month.

Updated Mask Guidance

Please wear your mask in the church building. We are implementing the statewide mask mandate for indoor settings. This includes vaccinated individuals. We do this, not out of fear, but as an act of love for our neighbors in the Spokane community and to practice Romans 13:1.
We are booming!

Volunteers are needed for several ministries. One urgent need is for ushers on Sunday mornings. Sign up at hamblenpres.org/signup.

NEWS TO NOTE
Acolyte Training This Sunday

Fourth graders (and fifth graders who have not gone through acolyte training!) are invited to attend Acolyte Training being held Sunday, November 21, at 10 AM in the sanctuary right after the worship service. For questions, contact Kathy Williams at kathylwms@gmail.com.
Stewardship Campaign Update

We were hoping to wrap up our stewardship campaign this Sunday! So far 75 households have made a financial commitment for 2022. If you haven't turned in a pledge card yet but would like to, you can bring it to worship this Sunday or email Heather Notske directly at heathern@hamblenpres.org and let her know the amount. If you would like your contributions to be withdrawn automatically from a savings/checking or debit/credit card account, please let Heather know that as well. Thank you for supporting our mission at HPPC!
News from Our Preschool

Hamblen Park Preschool is having a wonderful fall with 9 staff members and 73 students. This November students are learning about turkeys, family, food around the table, and thankfulness. The students helped make homemade bread in a bag and butter in a jar and then were able to share a delicious snack together. Cooking with kids is messy and a fun learning opportunity. Check out the links below to use the kid friendly recipes at home this Thanksgiving holiday. The Preschool wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving holiday!
Oasis Connect Retreat

January 7th-9th we’ll be offering a winter retreat at Tall Timber for our high schoolers. This will be a chance for us to spend intentional time away from our normal lives and dive into what it really means and looks like to be in Christian community. We’ll also have a chance to go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, play games, and all around have a good time. Application deadline is November 28th.
Wednesday Morning Bible Study
Advent Bible Study (December 1, 8, 15, 22)
Light Each Candle: Hope, Peace, Joy, & Love in the Book of Isaiah

As we wait for the birth of Jesus and look forward to his return, we light the Advent candles. We remember the hope, peace, joy, and love God gives us in Jesus. During Advent, Wednesday morning Bible study will look at messages of hope, peace, joy, and love in the book of Isaiah. Join us at 9:30 AM in the Skylight Room.
Advent Fair/Christmas Pageant from Scratch

For the 2021 Advent season, prepare for two favorites in a new format. This year, the Advent Fair and Christmas Pageant from Scratch happen the same evening, December 5, beginning at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited to take part in this annual tradition. Since we are still in Covid times, there will not be a meal served this year.

Join us at 6 PM for an opportunity to create retro Advent projects in the Fellowship Hall and Skylight Room. Some of the projects can be used in your home during the Advent season. Other projects will be given to organizations supporting the homeless in Spokane.

Immediately following the Advent Fair, we will present the annual favorite, The Christmas Pageant from Scratch. Anyone interested in participating will be invited to go to different rooms within the church to dress up as their most loved Christmas character. The Christmas Pageant From Scratch happens spontaneously with no rehearsal. The performance is unpredictably fun. Join us, one and all for an old favorite!

Christ Kitchen will have their great products for sale during the Advent Fair and Christmas Pageant. These items make great Christmas gifts and your purchase helps support a wonderful ministry in Spokane.
Top of the Hill Returns: Holiday Music

All ages are welcome to join us on Tuesday, December 7, from 11:30-12:30 in the sanctuary for a holiday sing-a-long with music by Jeannie Wright and friends. No need to RSVP, just come and get yourself into the Christmas spirit! We will NOT be serving lunch this time, hopefully we will be able to have a meal together soon.
Cozy Christmas Women's Event

Women ages high school and up are invited to join us for a cozy Christmas on Saturday, December 10, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. We’ll have a short devotional, optional Christmas crafts, delicious finger foods, a hot chocolate bar, and carol singing. Childcare for ages 11 and under will be provided. Wear your jammies, bring a friend, and enjoy a time to take a deep breath in the midst of the busy holiday season.

HOW WE'RE HELPING OTHERS
A Family in Need

There is a Hamblen Elementary School family that just grew when they got custody of 2 young children who only came with a bag of clothes. They are a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. They could use clothing items, toys, and furniture. Angela Hartsfield, School Counselor, has shared some community resources with them, but is hoping there is someone at church who has some things that the family could use. If you are able to help, please contact Angela at Hamblen Elementary, 509-354-2901. Thank you for all you do for our Hamblen community!
Tis the Season –
for the Liberty Park Community Development Center Toy Store

As we count our blessings throughout the Thanksgiving season, we turn our attention to the Liberty Park Community Development Center’s Toy Store scheduled for December 10th. Your continued support of the Neighborhood Outreach programs is a true blessing to our church, as well as those we support.

A Sign-up Genius is available at bit.ly/HPPCToyStore2021 for you to purchase toys for the Community Center. To participate, open the Sign-up Genius for the Toy Store, choose specific items to purchase, and drop them off (unwrapped) in the ‘Toy Box’ in the church foyer anytime the church doors are open. An evening drop off is available on Wednesday, December 1, 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Monetary donations designated for the ‘Toy Store’ are also welcome.

Donations will be accepted through Monday, December 6th. Thank you for considering and participating in this ministry.
Children's Christmas Joy Drive

Through Wednesday, December 1, HPPC is collecting new clothing for kids infant to 6th grade for the Mission Community Outreach Center's "Children's Christmas Joy Drive." • Jeans & Pants
  • Shirts (Long Sleeve Preferred)
  • Girls & Boys Underwear

Building Christ's Community

World Relief expects that 200 refugees from Afghanistan will be coming to Spokane. They have a need for Welcome Kits to prepare homes for families fleeing violence and danger. Use this link, bit.ly/WorldReliefWelcomeKits to review the kits: kitchen, linen, cleaning, elementary, or middle and high school kits, how to assemble and deliver a kit.

Thank you for building God's kingdom in Spokane!
Moran Vista Ministry Opportunities

We need worship leaders for once-a-month Sunday worship services at Moran Vista. The service begins at 2:00 pm. Worship leadership needs include a musician, a song leader, and someone to provide an inspiring reading or a simple sermon.

Kids' Masks Needed

Hamblen Elementary has a need for kids' masks. For those of you who are handy with a sewing machine, HERE is a link for instructions on sewing masks for kids. If you are able to help with reusable cloth or single-use disposable masks, please bring children's mask donations to the information table at the church. Thank you!
Hurricane Ida Relief

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is delivering aid to those impacted by Hurricane Ida. This will be a long-term commitment to the people impacted by this catastrophic destruction. PDA will continue to work with Presbyterian leadership to respond to Hurricane Ida and remain engaged in the recovery efforts during the hurricane season of 2021. PDA will provide emotional and spiritual care as well as long-term recovery to address unmet needs. We invite you to join in this effort by donating HERE. Thank you for your support!
Bite2Go

Volunteers may sign up HERE for delivery of Bite2Go food kits to Hamblen Elementary. We are again supporting 20 students with Bite2Go take-home meal supplements this school year. Your support has been tremendous the last several years and we look forward to your continued commitment. Volunteers are needed to pick up food at 2nd Harvest and drop off at Hamblen Elementary. Monetary donations help fund the program, which is $5.00 per week, per student. For those who wish to give support through monetary donations, please designate them for ‘Bite2go’.  You can find instructions and a map to Second Harvest HERE. For questions, call Karen Kelly at 509-599-7518. Thank you for committing to this ministry.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES
JAM (Jesus and Me)
Children's Sunday School

J.A.M. Sunday School is in person right after the Children’s Sermon during worship. Face masks will be utilized. This year our theme is “Heroes of the Bible”. Three-year-old through 1st-grade children will gather in self contained classrooms using Augsburg Fortress curriculum to learn about their favorite Bible hero. Second grade through fifth grade continue their fun using the rotation model. Each week students will investigate a Bible hero as they rotate through food, games, computer, video, and science sites throughout the building.

Journey (Wednesday Evening Program for 1st-5th Graders)

Journey meets Wednesday evenings, 5:00 to 7:00pm. Mike Rose and team bring back those wonderful dinners.
