THIS WEEK'S NEWS

Four Decades of Service

This Sunday, April 16, we celebrate 40 years of ministry with Sandy Riebe. Sandy is our Director of Financial Ministries and has served in the role now for four decades! Sandy brings faith, skill, kindness, and candor to all our ministries since everything touches finances in one way or another. We'll pray for her in worship, and you'll have an opportunity to write a note of encouragement during the fellowship hour. Be sure to express your appreciation to Sandy for years past and years to come. If you would like to send Sandy a card, you can mail it to the church office at 4102 S Crestline, Spokane, WA 99203.

The Sermon on the Mount…and the Plain?

Many of us are familiar with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5-7, commonly called the Sermon on the Mount. Did you know we find similar teaching in the gospel of Luke? This Spring, we will look at these two sermons of Jesus to deepen our understanding of how God’s reign is present and active in our midst. We’ll wrestle with critical questions about discipleship and gain fresh perspectives on the Good News of the Gospel. Join us Wednesday mornings at 9:30 in the Skylight Room from April 12-May 17.

May is for Kisses

If you wear your name tag on Sundays during the month of May, you and your family will each receive a kiss….(candy that is).

Name tags help us get to know each other better and make it easier for newcomers to feel welcomed. Wear yours and get a sweet treat.

Vacation Bible School

Summer is approaching and that means it's time to start planning for VBS! It takes many people to make this ministry a success. If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up at bit.ly/HPPCvolunteerVBS2023. You can register a child at www.hamblenpres.org/vbsregistration.

A Thank-You Note from Dorothy Powers

Dorothy would like to attend church in person, but she has reached her twilight years. She has lost mobility in her legs and doesn't do much verbalization anymore. On April 22, she will reach the ripe old age of 100! Please keep her in your prayers. She wanted to thank the church family for the cards and Easter lily. She can be reached at Touchmark Retirement Center, 2929 S Waterford Dr, Room 286, Spokane, WA 99203.

Book Club

You can join the Book Club for a discussion in the Fellowship Hall on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 2 PM. For more information, contact Betty Thompson at [email protected]. Our next meeting is April 20, during which we will discuss War Bonds by Cindy Hval.

If you would like to get started reading the book selection for next month’s meeting, we will be discussing Horseback Honeymoon by Dorothy Ballard, Ellen and Quincy Scott. Take a look at the vanishing Old West of 1907 through the eyes of two young artists in love.

Blankets for HPPC Newborns

The Congregational Care Team offers a ministry of giving baby blankets and Bibles to newborns of HPPC. This outreach is intended to welcome our little ones with love and affirmation of our commitment to be part of our community of faith.

Have you welcomed a new addition to your family recently? Are you expecting a little one in the coming months? Please contact Kathleen Seppi with your news at [email protected].

OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED

Guatemala Team Visit to Coban

Our team is planning a visit to Coban, Guatemala, this August. We will spend time at the school, La Libertad, where we sponsor a literacy program. We will also visit another school in the area and meet with the education district superintendent to explore options for expanding the program and helping it to be self-sustaining.

Our travel dates are August 19 through 26. If you feel called to go to Guatemala, or want to know more about this program, we would love to have you go with us. There's room on the bus for more team members!

For information, please contact Mary Mattie, 509.998.9646 or [email protected].

Join the Snow Patrol

Colder weather is upon us! Our parking lot gets plowed when it snows, but we depend on volunteers to keep our walkways safe and clear of snow during the winter. If you would like to sign up in advance for a specific day that you would be willing to snowblow our sidewalks, we would love to hear from you! We have a snowblower, shovels, and de-icer. Training can be provided! Sign up for one day this season or volunteer for multiple days--your choice! If interested, contact Heather Notske at 509-385-0627 or [email protected] or sign up online HERE.
