WORSHIP WITH US
Churches like Hamblen are needed more than ever. Our witness during the pandemic and our love for neighbors spoke volumes to people about the gospel of Jesus Christ. As all churches face post-pandemic challenges, we explore how much God’s mission matters. It’s a mission worth our time, talent, and treasure. It even gives our lives significance. Growing active followers of Jesus Christ and building his community matters to us and to the world around us.
Join us for In-Person Worship on Sunday mornings at 9 AM!

  • Register when you arrive, or skip the sign-in line by registering HERE.

Updated Mask Guidance

Please wear your mask in the church building. We are implementing the statewide mask mandate for indoor settings. This includes vaccinated individuals. We do this, not out of fear, but as an act of love for our neighbors in the Spokane community and to practice Romans 13:1.

Virtual Journey to Guatemala:
“Re-Imagining Masculinity: Challenging a Culture of Violence”

Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 4:30 p.m. Pacific

"What about the men?" is a question many people ask when hearing about CEDEPCA's commitment to empower women and girls. This year, CEDEPCA has begun equipping young men to embrace a "new masculinity" to challenge the dominant culture of chauvinism and violence. Come along on our next Virtual Journey to Guatemala to meet some of these young men and their program leaders and hear about the culture change that the Spirit of God is inspiring. This virtual travel opportunity, designed for an English-speaking audience, will include travel footage, powerful stories, and breakout room discussions.

Featured Speaker: Rev. Kevin Frederick, author of "Men in the Mirror: Constructing and Applying a Christ-Centered Masculinity to Interpersonal Relationships."

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
59 Minutes with Family Promise

You are invited to Family Promise of Spokane's virtual fundraising event - 59 Minutes with Family Promise - on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 7:00 PM to 7:59 PM. Family Promise of Spokane has produced an investigative segment, patterned after the popular "60 Minutes," that focuses on the hidden homeless crisis - families with children. As we approach the winter season and the end of the eviction moratorium, families will be hit hard, and many will experience homelessness. 59 Minutes with Family Promise will raise awareness about the issue of family homelessness in our community while educating our neighbors on what we can do to:

  1. Support families at risk of experiencing eviction and homelessness;
  2. Help Family Promise increase our emergency shelter capacity to ensure no child and family goes unsheltered;
  3. Empower families currently experiencing homelessness to achieve housing stability and end the generational cycle of homelessness.

Attendance is free, but you must register to reserve your spot HERE: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/5mc/event/837299/.

Viewers can watch from the comforts of their own homes and donate online at the end of the program. Viewers who register by TOMORROW, October 15, 2021, will receive a complimentary home viewing party kit with treats, Family Promise of Spokane swag, and more! If you have any questions, please feel free to check out the Family Promise website at familypromiseofspokane.org/59minutes, or connect with Craig Howard, Development Manager, at choward@familypromiseofspokane.org.

HOW WE'RE HELPING OTHERS
Responding to a Critical Need: Fall Blood Drive at HPPC
Unfortunately, we have moved to a critical need for blood in Spokane, meaning we have less than a 2-day supply of most blood types. If you are healthy and able to donate blood, please do.

Our fall blood drive is scheduled for Sunday, October 31, from 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM. Vitalant will be running the blood drive with a donation bus in the HPPC parking lot.

There is a new online portal to make an appointment to donate at bit.ly/HPPCBloodDrive2021. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome to donate on the day of the blood drive.

If you would like to make an appointment but prefer not to logon, you can contact Jill Reuter at 509-599-2689 or jillsreuter@gmail.com to have her make an appointment for you.

Enjoy the convenience of the popular Butter Braid frozen pastry dough while helping the HPPC Preschool create a school garden and purchase new curriculum books. These delectable, frozen and ready-to-bake pastries are perfect for holiday gatherings and celebrations. Flavors include apple, cinnamon, strawberry, cherry, caramel, and blueberry. Order forms can be found on the Information Table inside the main entrance of the church . Please return order forms to the church office or preschool by October 26th. Delivery will happen by November 9th. Just in time for Thanksgiving!
Candy Donations

Smiles may be currently hidden by masks, but that doesn't mean that it is any less important for us to create reasons to smile. The HPPC Harvest Party and Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 31, 1:00-3:00 PM is sure to prompt smiles from children and adults alike! Candy donations are needed for this upcoming event. We will be offering a selection of nut-free candies for those with nut allergies. If you would like to help offer some nut-free options, you can find a list of candies at bit.ly/NutFreeCandies. Please bring any candy donations, with or without nuts, to the Information Table at the church. Thank you for helping to create smiles!
Building Christ's Community

World Relief expects that 200 refugees from Afghanistan will be coming to Spokane. They have a need for Welcome Kits to prepare homes for families fleeing violence and danger. Use this link, bit.ly/WorldReliefWelcomeKits to review the kits: kitchen, linen, cleaning, elementary, or middle and high school kits, how to assemble and deliver a kit.

Thank you for building God's kingdom in Spokane!

Hurricane Ida Relief

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is delivering aid to those impacted by Hurricane Ida. This will be a long-term commitment to the people impacted by this catastrophic destruction. PDA will continue to work with Presbyterian leadership to respond to Hurricane Ida and remain engaged in the recovery efforts during the hurricane season of 2021. PDA will provide emotional and spiritual care as well as long-term recovery to address unmet needs. We invite you to join in this effort by donating HERE. Thank you for your support!
Bite2Go

Volunteers may sign up HERE for delivery of Bite2Go food kits to Hamblen Elementary. We are again supporting 20 students with Bite2Go take-home meal supplements this school year. Your support has been tremendous the last several years and we look forward to your continued commitment. Volunteers are needed to pick up food at 2nd Harvest and drop off at Hamblen Elementary. Monetary donations help fund the program, which is $5.00 per week, per student. For those who wish to give support through monetary donations, please designate them for ‘Bite2go’.  You can find instructions and a map to Second Harvest HERE. For questions, call Karen Kelly at 509-599-7518. Thank you for committing to this ministry.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

In spite of its place at the back of our Bibles, Paul’s first letter to the church in Thessalonica is the oldest writing in the New Testament. In this letter, Paul encourages the community of disciples to persist in faith, hope, and love. This fall, we’ll take an in-depth look at Paul’s letter to those who “became very dear to him” (1 Thessalonians 2:8). Together we’ll discover how this ancient letter continues to encourage us as we grow in faith individually and as a community.

Join us each week at 9:30 AM for Wednesday morning Bible study in the Fellowship Hall as we continue to explore 1 Thessalonians.

JAM (Jesus and Me)
Children's Sunday School

J.A.M. Sunday School is in person right after the Children’s Sermon during worship. Face masks will be utilized. This year our theme is “Heroes of the Bible”. Three-year-old through 1st-grade children will gather in self contained classrooms using Augsburg Fortress curriculum to learn about their favorite Bible hero. Second grade through fifth grade continue their fun using the rotation model. Each week students will investigate a Bible hero as they rotate through food, games, computer, video, and science sites throughout the building.

Journey (Wednesday Evening Program for 1st-5th Graders)

Journey meets Wednesday evenings, 5:00 to 7:00pm. Mike Rose and team bring back those wonderful dinners.
