WORSHIP WITH US

Use the season of Lent to return to the Lord and renew your Christian faith

You should have received a Lenten devotional in the mail titled "Drawn to the Cross." This booklet of intentional daily devotionals inspired by Henri Nouwen will draw us closer to the cross each day.

If you did not receive one or would like another to share with a friend, they are available at the information center in the main hallway. If you want to go a little deeper into the devotional, there are also daily questions available at the information center or HERE. You can use these personally or with a family member or friend. If you would like to join a small group, we will have two groups meeting through March to discuss the daily readings and questions:

  • Sunday mornings, following worship in the Skylight Room (March 5, 12, 19, 26, & April 2), led by Heather Notske. Childcare available if requested.

  • Wednesday evenings at 7pm, ON ZOOM, (March 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29), led by Pastor Jennie. Join our next meeting at bit.ly/HPPCLentGroup3-22-23.

If you have questions or would like to attend a group, please contact Heather at 509-385-0627 or [email protected].

Lenten Almsgiving

We are celebrating the ancient Lenten practice of almsgiving. Each Sunday we’ll hear from one of our mission partners and have a special opportunity to increase the church’s financial support for them. You may give at bit.ly/HPPCMinistrySupport or at worship services. By working with our partners, we are not just "giving alms," but supporting ongoing ministries.

This Sunday's ministry partner:

The Presbytery of the Inland Northwest is the regional council of the PC(USA). God’s mission in

the world calls the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest to walk alongside and encourage communities of faith, together bearing witness to Jesus Christ and discerning the Spirit's work in this time and place.

One Great Hour of Sharing

We have the fun fish banks available again this year for kids to collect a Lenten offerings for One Great Hour of Sharing. These are available at the Information Center in the church entry.

Family Promise Opportunities

During morning worship this past Sunday, we had the privilege of hearing from Shawn Ewart who serves Family Promise. As part of her presentation, Shawn shared a very moving video that included an interview of a formerly homeless man sharing about his family and their search for a home. This is what Family Promise is all about! We now have opportunities to share in the stories of homeless families as they transition from homelessness to being productive community members. Family Promise works to prevent homelessness, provide shelter, and prepare stable futures to end the cycle of homelessness. They currently have several shelters across the Spokane area that meet the varying needs of many families. For example, three families from our church prepared and shared a dinner with the residents of the Infant House. This was an amazing experience for us! We learned that we share common ground and that we all need to find connection and feel a sense of belonging.

You will also have opportunities to share in the lives of these families. We will be getting a schedule out within the next month with dates and places that we can prepare meals and share them with families in some of the Family Promise shelters/homes.

Thank you to those who signed up on Sunday to volunteer. Others may be interested but didn’t sign up at that time. If you would like to help prepare part of a meal and share it with some of the Family Promise communities, please contact Karen Scruggs at 509-474-0858 or [email protected]

The dedication our congregation has had to Family Promise is truly appreciated, and we look forward to many meaningful experiences in the future.
