Updated Mask Guidance

Please wear your mask in the church building. We are implementing the statewide mask mandate for indoor settings. This includes vaccinated individuals. We do this, not out of fear, but as an act of love for our neighbors in the Spokane community and to practice Romans 13:1.

Building Christ's Community

World Relief expects that 200 refugees from Afghanistan will be coming to Spokane. They have a need for Welcome Kits to prepare homes for families fleeing violence and danger. Use this link, bit.ly/WorldReliefWelcomeKits to review the kits: kitchen, linen, cleaning, elementary, or middle and high school kits, how to assemble and deliver a kit.

Family Promise is hosting a virtual, interactive, education event, "59 Minutes," on Thursday, 10/28/2021 at 7:00 PM. "59 Minutes" is being held to "increase community awareness of the challenges facing vulnerable families and, in response, generate funding support to create solutions in the months ahead." Tickets to join, and more details can be found at https://www.familypromiseofspokane.org/59minutes

Thank you for building God's kingdom in Spokane!

There is a new online portal to make an appointment to donate at bit.ly/HPPCBloodDrive2021. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome to donate on the day of the blood drive.

If you would like to make an appointment but prefer not to logon, you can contact Jill Reuter at 509-599-2689 or [email protected] to have her make an appointment for you.
Candy Donations

Smiles may be currently hidden by masks, but that doesn't mean that it is any less important for us to create reasons to smile. The HPPC Harvest Party and Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 31, 1:00-3:00 PM is sure to prompt smiles from children and adults alike! Candy donations are needed for this upcoming event. We will be offering a selection of nut-free candies for those with nut allergies. If you would like to help offer some nut-free options, you can find a list of candies at bit.ly/NutFreeCandies. Please bring any candy donations, with or without nuts, to the Information Table at the church. Thank you for helping to create smiles!

HOW WE'RE HELPING OTHERS
Urgent Need for Kids' Masks

One of our members, Anita Sather, works at Hamblen Elementary and has noticed an immediate need at the school. She is asking for help with a mask shortage there. She has reached out to our congregation with this request, "During this pandemic, we have run out of kids' masks over and over since they are lost and damaged quite frequently as kids do! If any members are interested in making or donating kids' masks, we would be very grateful. We are down to our last box of disposable masks and we're hoping we could start changing to cloth for the sake of longer wear. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and we thank you for all you do for Hamblen Elementary."

For those of you who are handy with a sewing machine, HERE is a link for instructions on sewing masks for kids. If you are able to help with reusable cloth or single-use disposable masks, please bring children's mask donations to the information table at the church. Thank you!
Hurricane Ida Relief

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is delivering aid to those impacted by Hurricane Ida. This will be a long-term commitment to the people impacted by this catastrophic destruction. PDA will continue to work with Presbyterian leadership to respond to Hurricane Ida and remain engaged in the recovery efforts during the hurricane season of 2021. PDA will provide emotional and spiritual care as well as long-term recovery to address unmet needs. We invite you to join in this effort by donating HERE. Thank you for your support!
Bite2Go

Volunteers may sign up HERE for delivery of Bite2Go food kits to Hamblen Elementary. We are again supporting 20 students with Bite2Go take-home meal supplements this school year. Your support has been tremendous the last several years and we look forward to your continued commitment. Volunteers are needed to pick up food at 2nd Harvest and drop off at Hamblen Elementary. Monetary donations help fund the program, which is $5.00 per week, per student. For those who wish to give support through monetary donations, please designate them for ‘Bite2go’.  You can find instructions and a map to Second Harvest HERE. For questions, call Karen Kelly at 509-599-7518. Thank you for committing to this ministry.
Request for Gloves/Mittens

The ladies of Deborah Circle need your help! We have been very busy making over 500 hats for grade school children. Here is where you can help: we need gloves to go with the hats. The one-size-fits-all for grade school children is what is needed. If you are able to help, you may drop off donations at the church by October 30. Questions? Contact Verla Enright at 509-624-6445. Thank you for your help!

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

In spite of its place at the back of our Bibles, Paul’s first letter to the church in Thessalonica is the oldest writing in the New Testament. In this letter, Paul encourages the community of disciples to persist in faith, hope, and love. This fall, we’ll take an in-depth look at Paul’s letter to those who “became very dear to him” (1 Thessalonians 2:8). Together we’ll discover how this ancient letter continues to encourage us as we grow in faith individually and as a community.

Join us each week at 9:30 AM for Wednesday morning Bible study in the Fellowship Hall as we continue to explore 1 Thessalonians.

Virtual Journey to Guatemala:
“Re-Imagining Masculinity: Challenging a Culture of Violence”

Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 4:30 p.m. Pacific

"What about the men?" is a question many people ask when hearing about CEDEPCA's commitment to empower women and girls. This year, CEDEPCA has begun equipping young men to embrace a "new masculinity" to challenge the dominant culture of chauvinism and violence. Come along on our next Virtual Journey to Guatemala to meet some of these young men and their program leaders and hear about the culture change that the Spirit of God is inspiring. This virtual travel opportunity, designed for an English-speaking audience, will include travel footage, powerful stories, and breakout room discussions.

Featured Speaker: Rev. Kevin Frederick, author of "Men in the Mirror: Constructing and Applying a Christ-Centered Masculinity to Interpersonal Relationships."

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES
JAM (Jesus and Me)
Children's Sunday School

J.A.M. Sunday School is in-person right after the Children’s Sermon during worship. Face masks will be utilized. This year our theme is “Heroes of the Bible”. Three-year-old through 1st-grade children will gather in self contained classrooms using Augsburg Fortress curriculum to learn about their favorite Bible hero. Second grade through fifth grade continue their fun using the rotation model. Each week students will investigate a Bible hero as they rotate through food, games, computer, video, and science sites throughout the building.

Journey (Wednesday Evening Program for 1st-5th Graders)

Journey meets Wednesday evenings, 5:00 to 7:00pm. Mike Rose and team bring back those wonderful dinners. Karen Kelly brings all her teaching skills into play during our games time. We will have games, Bible study, highs and lows for the week, and laughter. A weekly donation of $4.00 is asked to help support some of the Journey activities. You are encouraged to bring a friend.
