GARAGE SALE WAS A SUCCESS!
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the incredible volunteers who made our garage sale a roaring success! We are over the moon with joy and pride after seeing how everyone came together to set up, sell, and take down the sale. Special thanks to the one and only Cheryl Bartik, who led the charge and treated everyone to delicious hot chocolate. And let's not forget the amazing breakfast spread with donuts, cinnamon rolls, and hot coffee and the scrumptious lunch of pizzas for everyone!
The energy and camaraderie on display were truly heartwarming, and it was wonderful to see everyone working together towards a common goal. And that's not all, we're thrilled to announce that we raised about $31 for the Share Food, Share Love Food Pantry, our valued partner, and the garage sale netted us about $635!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who helped make this possible. We couldn't have done it without your hard work and dedication. You are all rock stars in our eyes!

If you or someone you love or serve needs a COVID-19 booster and/or flu shot brought to their home, AgeOptions has partnered with CIMPAR to offer in-home vaccines to home bound folks in Suburban Cook County. To qualify for an in-home vaccination, a person must:
- Live in suburban Cook County (any part of Cook County except the City of Chicago)
- Be 60 years or older or an adult (18+) with a disability.

ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING

The Annual Congregational Business Meeting is coming up! It is scheduled for Sunday, November 12, with a Congregational Forum on Sunday November 5. At the forum, we will discuss the proposed budget for 2024—this is the opportunity for make any changes, since it is just up for approval at the business meeting.
We have two available positions on the Board. Nomination forms are available online and on the back table—and you may nominate yourself!
The business packets will be available by November 5th. If you are someone who is responsible for a written report, please get that to Barbara by October 20—we prefer a written report so people have time to review the information before the business meeting. At Holy Covenant, we rely on the generosity of our community to keep our church running and continue serving our members. We are reaching out to you today to ask for your support, as we need to raise at least 4,672 every month to meet our obligations for bills and salaries.
There are multiple ways you can donate to Holy Covenant. You can donate through PayPal, which you can access through our website or by sending your donation to donations@holycovenantmcc.org. However, please note that PayPal charges a fee to the church, so if possible, please consider helping us cover that fee.
Alternatively, you can use Zelle to send your donation directly to the church at donations@holycovenantmcc.org. This option has no fees attached to it, and your donation will go directly into our general account.

Joseph - The Movie

This month it's a movie!
Joseph! After talking about Joseph a few weeks ago,
I re-watched the movie I mentioned, titled (not surprisingly) Joseph. It is available on YouTube Joseph - The Movie and is about 3 hours long in total (remember it was a miniseries on TV).
The Old Testament story of Joseph, favorite son of Jacob (Martin Landau) and great-grandson of Abraham, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, but who rose to become prime minister of Egypt. Joseph (Paul Mercurio) governed the country during a seven-year famine, during which his brothers visited Egypt seeking grain, only to encounter their brother, whom they had long presumed dead.
I invite you to join me on October 22 after church for a discussion of this account of Joseph's life (CW for the movie--SA is mentioned but not shown; harassment is shown between Joseph and Ptophar's wife).

In honor of LGBTQ+ History Month, join us for a virtual community event featuring two storytellers from Chicago Methodist Senior Services GOLD program. The GOLD Program (GLBT+ Older Adults Leading Initiatives to Drive Change) amplifies the voices of LGBT+ older adults to promote inclusion in aging services.

OCTOBER IS LGBTQ+ HISTORY MONTH! | |
In 1994, a Missouri high school teacher named Rodney Wilson – the first out public school teacher in the state – wanted to give students better access to LGBTQ history as well as more role models with whom they could identify.
He established a planning committee with LGBTQ leaders from around the country, and from there, Gay and Lesbian History Month was born.
The group selected October for what would ultimately become LGBTQ History Month because school would be in session. October is also when we celebrate National Coming Out Day (on the 11). The two LGBTQ marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 also took place in October.
After its founding, organizations like the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, GLAAD, and the Human Rights Campaign endorsed Gay and Lesbian History Month, and in 1995, the National Education Association passed a resolution officially recognizing it as a commemorative month.
In 2006, the civil rights organization Equality Forum became the official organizer and promoter of the month. Each year, Equality Forum selects 31 icons to honor, one for each day.
Today, as conservatives continue their widespread attacks on the rights of LGBTQ students, LGBTQ History Month feels more important than ever, serving to remind LGBTQ young people that they are part of a long, storied history of strength, resilience, and bravery.
What is LGBTQ History Month?
LGBTQ History Month is celebrated both nationally and internationally and has become a crucial tool in ensuring that queer history is shared, taught, and celebrated, as it is rarely included in school curricula.
Thus, LGBTQ students are often unaware of the fact that many figures they study in school were in fact LGBTQ. They also miss out on learning about the LGBTQ rights movement and the many figures who have fought heroically for LGBTQ equality.
LGBTQ History Month is a way to encourage schools, media, and other institutions devoted to sharing knowledge to amplify the important stories of the LGBTQ community.
When is LGBTQ History Month Celebrated?
In the United States, LGBTQ History Month is celebrated every October. Canada and Australia also celebrate it this month. It is also recognized in the United Kingdom (in February), Hungary (in February), Finland (in November), and Berlin (in June).
And this past year in May, Cuba became the first country in Latin America to celebrate it. Italy also celebrated its first one this year in April.

We have an incredible gift/program to be able to bring to our clients. Please think of anyone you know who might meet the eligibility requirements and can benefit from this service – anyone with safety concerns or issues, poor lighting, no handrails near stairs, no grab bars in the bathroom, no smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors, is there a need for a lock box, etc.? Are there any areas in need of repair – cracks, uneven flooring, broken doors or locks etc.?

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Food insecurity has become a public health crisis that continues to affect our communities, with an alarming increase of 19 in the number of households facing hunger compared to pandemic levels. The situation is even worse for Black households, as the number has risen by 37. With the recent cancellation of extra money in the SNAP program, it is now more vital than ever to support organizations like Share Food Share Love.
By donating to the Share Food Share Love Food Pantry, you can make a real difference in the lives of those who are struggling to put food on the table. With just a $1.00 donation, you can help provide 3 meals for a family in need. Your generosity can help ensure that our neighbors do not go hungry.
We are calling on all members of our community to help us fight food insecurity by donating to the Share Food Share Love Food Pantry. There is a food box located in front of Tischler's where you can drop off your non-perishable food items 2/47 or bring your food donations to the church and we will take it over.
