October 4, 2019
Almighty God, our Creator, yours are the praise,
the glory, the honor and all blessings!
To you alone do all things belong.
We praise you for giving us the animals, birds and fish which fill our world.
May we think of you and give you thanks
when we play with and care for our pets.
We ask you, Lord, that we may be good to our pets always,
so that they may be happy.
Help us always to take care of them so that they will be healthy.
O God, your world is wonderful.
May we all come into your even greater world of the kingdom of heaven
where we shall see even more wonderful things
and where we shall live and love for ever.
This we ask to your eternal praise, and to our blessing. Amen.
This Sunday is the kickoff of our 2020 Stewardship Campaign, Shining our Light. The light of Christ truly shines through the people of Holy Cross: in our worship, fellowship, Godly Play and adult formation, and in the many ways that we are present in our community and serve our brothers and sisters in need. The generosity of your gifts - time, talents and treasure - are loving responses to God's call.

This year, we are asking you to enter into a time of prayer and discernment prior to completing your pledge. Over the next few weeks, we ask that you prayerfully reflect on the gifts you have received and how God is calling you to use these gifts in support of continuing the ministry of Holy Cross. As you discern and pray, please know that what you pledge is between you and God; That you make a pledge is a huge statement of your feeling called to be a part of what God has in store for Holy Cross as we continue to bring the light of Christ in our lives and the world around us.

Your Stewardship Committee: Tom Mauro, Karen Sanchez, Rev Roger Haenke
We wish our Jewish Brothers and Sisters a blessed Yon Kippur and that their sins be forgiven and their prayers be answered.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, begins at sundown on Tuesday, October 8th, and ends at sundown on Wednesday, October 9th. It is the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, a time set aside to repent for sins and to reflect on the year past and the year to come. Observant Jews generally attend synagogue, with readings from the Torah, and fast for 25 hours. Breaking the fast Wednesday evening is a celebratory time.

Please expect our parking lot to be impacted during services, Tuesday evening, October 8th, and especially Wednesday, October 9th, all day beginning at 9 am through the evening.

Search Update

Our vicar search is now live and our opening will be active until November 22, 2019 (60 days from the date of posting). All interested clergy will initially contact the Rev. Laura Sheridan-Campbell, D irector of Formation and Transition for the diocese. She will take responsibility for conducting red flag checks and then passing on names of candidates to Art Wahl, chair of the Search Committee.

Please hold Holy Cross, the Search Committee, and all applicants in your prayers during this time of discernment. Also, please hold Rev Roger in prayer as he discerns his next calling. As we all can attest, his next church will be blessed to have him as their spiritual leader!
A prayer for our interim period and vicar search

Almighty God, giver of every gift we receive:
look graciously on your Church,
and guide those who shall discern
whom God is calling to be vicar of Holy Cross.
Grace us with patience, trust, and hope
through the interim times of doubt and uncertainty.
We pray that we may receive a faithful pastor,
who will care for your people and equip us
to continue, improve, expand, and reach out
with our ministries to all whom we can touch;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
