November is Homelessness Awareness Month
HomeAid Atlanta, along with 18 other HomeAid affiliates nationwide, recognizes November as Homelessness Awareness Month. This special month provides inspiration and opportunities to reflect on important work being done in communities across the nation to address homelessness, learn how to engage, and hear stories of hope, resilience and compassion from community members impacted by this issue.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, many people take time to consider what they’re thankful for and donate some of their time, attention, and resources to others. In the spirit of thankfulness and giving, HomeAid initiates this 30-day campaign annually. By becoming a part of this daily campaign, you are not only raising awareness but you are strengthening the national movement to build a future without homelessness in every community across this country!

Building New Lives: Construction Update
In November, HomeAid will celebrate a simultaneous Ribbon Cutting & Groundbreaking Event for a new home adding 10 more beds to help teenage girls escaping sex trafficking at Gigi’s House (left).
On that same campus, we are starting a building that will provide space for meeting rooms, administrative offices, and school with Meritage Homes for the 20 girls who will find refuge at Gigi's House.

Getting Hands-On: Community Engagement
On September 23, volunteers from Brand Vaughan Lumber Company, Ashton Woods Homes, and Opendoor joined us for a Care Day at Breakthru House.
Breakthru House transforms the lives of women and their children struggling with addiction by providing a long-term residential program to empower women to achieve healing through recovery.
Westlake Corporation employees recently packed more than 200 HomeAid CareKits. Employees held a fundraising drive to purchase items to fill the kits. The CareKits were delivered to Crossroads Community Ministries for distribution. Crossroads provides access to resources that empower people experiencing homelessness to progress on the road toward stability.

On October 7, volunteers from JW Collection joined a HomeAid Care Day at Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program which serves veterans by providing help with food, housing, clothing, Veterans Affairs claims, home of record, and other support.

On October 21, CBRE employees volunteered at a HomeAid Care Day at Sheltering Arms Early Education & Family Centers in College Park. This was CBRE’s 11th HomeAid Care Day since 2010!

On October 25, Northview Church Middle School and Teen Ministry packed 500 HomeAid CareKits. CareKits were donated to SafeHouse Outreach and the DeKalb Library Foundation. These awesome teens have packed 2,000 HomeAid CareKits since 2021!
Making Change: Affordable Housing
For over 20 years, HomeAid Atlanta has worked with the building industry and nonprofit housing providers to ensure those experiencing homelessness have a safe, temporary place to call home as they rebuild their lives. This year, we are expanding our efforts and hope to create permanent, affordable housing units by leveraging our position as a bridge between homebuilders, nonprofits, and the community.

We have been partnering with Leadership Atlanta, HouseATL, and Kennesaw State University's Construction Management Program to learn more and create solutions to the problem of affordable housing in metro Atlanta.

GET INVOLVED!
At an October 26 HouseATL event, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens (above) remarked, "Our work must start and end with people. We need to be proactive. We’ve learned that progress is possible. Housing is a problem we can solve." If you agree, please consider joining HomeAid Atlanta's Affordable Housing Task Force. We are holding our first meeting on November 3. Let us know if you would like to participate in this much-needed effort to add more housing options so that we can continue our work to build a future without homelessness! Email us!

42nd Annual OBIE Awards
We had an incredible evening at the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association's 42nd Annual OBIE Awards on October 22 at the Georgia Aquarium. Many of the winners are also HomeAid Atlanta supporters! Not only are these builders and trades outstanding in their work, they also give back generously to the community. Congratulations to all winners and our friends at the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (left) and the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council on a wonderful event.
Ashton Woods | Starlight Homes Golf Tournament
HomeAid Atlanta had a great time at the 7th Annual Ashton Woods Homes | Starlight Homes Trade Partners Charity Golf Tournament on October 19 at Bear's Best.

We are so very grateful for Ashton Woods, Starlight Homes, and their trade partners for their generous support to help build a future without homelessness.
