Dear Friends,
We are gearing up for summer at JFCS and, thankfully, this summer feels very different from the last one. That said, I know that for many of our clients, and for those who have not yet found us, there is abundant despair and ongoing struggle. Fortunately, JFCS is here to help.
Referrals for mental health services at JFCS are on the rise. This is expected as we re-enter public spaces, attend social events and return to work, camp and school. For some of us, including our children and teens, re-entry into life has heightened our anxiety or depression and it has proven difficult to adjust to the change. JFCS is here to help.
As clients begin to return to our Teaneck and Wayne offices to meet with staff face-to-face, we are excited about the Teaneck office’s recent “facelift” of new paint and flooring. Our highly professional team providing Mental Health, Older Adult, Food Insecurity, and Family Case Management/Basic Needs services are eager to continue to treat and assist those who need us as we start to come out of the COVID era.
In addition to being excited about seeing our clients in person, we are also excited about reconnecting with our board, donors and volunteers. We hope to be able to greet you at either of our two upcoming "live" events: the 11th annual Wheels for Meals - Ride to Fight Hunger on June 13th, and/or our Annual Meeting on June 23rd. If we won't see you at either of those events we would be thrilled to arrange a different time to catch up.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that JFCS is the safety net for our Northern New Jersey community.
With gratitude,

The Corner Market is now mobile!
|
The JFCS Corner Market is making its way to Wayne, NJ and other corners of our very large catchment area.
Thanks to a generous grant (from a prominent national foundation) for capital purchases to address the needs of those struggling with issues of food insecurity, JFCS was able to purchase our very own cargo van. This allows us to bring food pantry items closer to clients who cannot visit our Teaneck location.
Free pick-up of kosher and non-Kosher, non-perishable food items will be available to families and individuals who are residents of Passaic county and are seeking assistance on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 12 pm-2 pm in Wayne, NJ.
For more information, contact Linda at 201-978-8492.

Wheels for Meals - Ride to Fight Hunger
|
Join us for our 11th annual Wheels for Meals bike ride on June 13, 2021, at Spectra Labs in Rockleigh, NJ. This annual bike event raises money to battle food insecurity in Northern NJ. Ride, hike or donate to support JFCS's programs and services and challenge your friends and family to raise money to fight hunger in our community. We are 70% of our way to raising $180,000 - help us reach our goal!
|
The 3, 10, 25 and 50-mile bike routes allow any member of your family to take part in the ride, no matter their skill level. The 3-mile route will be around the parking lot and is ideal for younger riders.
You don't cycle? There will be a guided hike leaving from the Rockleigh Woods Sanctuary. For families with younger children, Shepard Grinker of Tenafly Bicycle Workshop will be offering a 45-minute bike lesson for kids aged 4-12.
Mazal tov to our 3 bnei mitzah, Willow Becker, Zak Krohn and Ben Ashkenase, who will be celebrating their big day with their friends and family at the bike ride. Thank you for allowing us to take part in your celebration and raising money and awareness for this worthy cause.
If you would like to register for any of these great activities or want to donate to support our hunger-fighting services, please visit www.ridetofighthunger.com.

In the News: JFCS VISTA members discover their career paths
|
Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey is one of several non-profits throughout the country that hosts AmeriCorps VISTA members. Founded in 1964, VISTA was an opportunity to make an impact on communities through President Lyndon B. Johnson’s war on poverty. Since then, more than 220,000 AmeriCorps VISTA members have worked with local organizations to implement new programs and services, develop resources, expand each organization’s capacity, and positively impact their communities. VISTA members, typically recent college graduates, join a non-profit organization, like JFCS, for one year; during that time they become a part of the organization’s team, allowing them the opportunity to learn and focus their passions on what interests them most. Then they to move on to new opportunities, continuing their education or getting jobs at non-profits.
