Doug's latest fishing report shares how he's successfully adapting to the summer patterns on Kentucky Lake. He's been finding crappie even as lake levels shift and baitfish move to deeper waters, showing his expertise in navigating these changes. Doug's dedication to exploring new spots and figuring out what works, like using different baits and weights, truly highlights his passion for fishing.

The Forgotten Bridge of US 79

This little, abandoned bridge tucked away in the woods just off US 79 on LBL’s southern border marks an interesting, yet little-known fact about Land Between The Lakes.  In the planning stages of LBL, this site was considered for a welcome center, with this now-abandoned bridge serving as a southern entrance into the national recreation area.  Most don’t realize it, but LBL’s southern border briefly dips south of US 79 at this intersection, supposedly where the visitor center was once proposed decades ago.

Hiking Through Time

If you're looking for a way to connect with history while enjoying the outdoors, the Fort Henry Trail System is a perfect spot. We recently explored these trails, offering a unique opportunity to imagine a pivotal time in American history where soldiers once marched during the Civil War. This journey combines natural beauty with profound historical significance, providing a moving experience for anyone who visits.

Beneath the Concrete

Lydia's latest blog post, "Beneath the Concrete," shares a truly fascinating piece of local history right in Canton, Kentucky. She reveals that a seemingly ordinary parking lot off Highway 68, near the Henry R. Lawrence Memorial Bridge, actually holds the remains of a 1000-year-old Mississippian Native American village. It's incredible to imagine this spot as a once-thriving community with permanent homes, a central plaza, and even platform mounds, bustling with farmers and traders. Even though visible traces are gone, Lydia's post reminds us that powerful stories of the past are often just beneath the surface, waiting to be acknowledged.
