ADULT TENNIS & PICKLEBALL CORNER

From the Desk of Dan Goldberg, Director of Tennis

USTA League matches are in full swing! While you might not be able to immediately fix a weak backhand or balky serve, here are a few “controllable tips” to help you win more matches this summer.

  1. Warm up properly before matches. You will not be performing at peak level if you just show up cold and start to play. Try to arrive for matches 30 minutes early to get settled, do a dynamic warm up. and collect your thoughts before the match.

  2. Have a low wide base and split step before your opponent hits. You’ll be in much better position, be able to react more quickly, and have better balance by always maintaining an athletic stance.

  3. Prepare early and recover quickly. Club players often tend to be reactive with both their preparation and recovery. It’s important to create time to hit the ball consistently. Effective preparation and recovery footwork is an integral component of this process.

  4. Move on from your mistakes. Many players tend to dwell on their errors, creating a “ snowball effect." Try to maintain positive routines regardless of whether you won or lost the previous point. Mental resilience is a big part of competing well. Good luck!

Save My Play Cameras Now Available!

We’re excited to share that we are now offering Save My Play camera systems on our indoor tennis courts.

Save My Play is an automated video platform that records court play and organizes it into easy-to-access clips. The system runs in the background during play, capturing matches and practice sessions with no setup or interruption for players. Save My Play fees will be noted when you log in to view your recorded play.

Members can record their tennis lessons, matches, and play by scanning the Save My Play QR code located at the front desk or on the tennis bulletin board. Forgot to scan the QR code? No problem! Visit the Liberty Save My Play webpage to view and purchase your recordings. Please note that recordings are available for purchase for up to six (6) days following the date of play.

Save My Play offers key benefits:

  • Skill development: Review matches to support improvement
  • Coaching support: Use real footage for more effective feedback
  • Highlight access: Capture key moments to share quickly
  • Automated capture: Enjoy continuous recording with no setup required

We look forward to offering this valuable resource to support both competitive and recreational play.

NUTRITION

From the Desk of Bethany Williston, M.S., RDN

Applesauce: A Natural Alternative to Energy Gels

Training for a long run, ride, or workout? Here's a fun nutrition fact: two applesauce pouches provide nearly the same carbohydrates and calories as a typical exercise gel.

While many sports gels contain added ingredients like electrolytes and MCTs to support endurance, applesauce offers a simple, all-natural source of quick energy. It's also often gentler on the stomach and typically costs about half as much as a gel. The only downside? You'll have a little more to carry.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly way to fuel your next endurance workout, or if you simply want to add some variety, give applesauce a try. It may be the perfect fit for your next long training day!
