AUGUST 2025

HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING

What's New

We Donated Over 100 Backpacks!

Meet one incredible recipient from Stony Brook Pediatric Oncology Clinic who is starting the school year with a brand-new backpack and supplies from our Back-to-School Fill-a-Backpack Drive.

This year, we filled and donated over 100 backpacks, making sure children had the supplies and the smiles they deserve. These moments remind us that your donations bring more than just school supplies; they bring confidence, joy, and a sense of normalcy during challenging times.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and to Amazon for helping us with deliveries. Together, we’re making a real difference for children and families in need.

Soccer Raised Over $20,000

Our Soccer Tournament at Kevin Kolm Field earlier this month was a success, thanks to the incredible leadership of (MMU), Master Mind Unit, and the generous community support for the Michael Magro Foundation.

Ten teams participated in a day filled with competitive play, sportsmanship, and a sense of purpose. More than just a tournament, the event raised both funds and awareness for families facing pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. From early morning kickoff to the final goal, the field buzzed with energy and hope.

Terrie commented, "We’re so proud of our players, families, and volunteers who showed up not just to play, but to make a difference," MMU Tournament Organizers reflected on the past 18 years of the tournament, "Partnering with MMF allowed us to turn a love of soccer into real support for families who need it most."

Proceeds from the event will go toward MMF’s programs, including Distraction Bags for hospitalized children, Small Wishes Big Smiles experiences, and essential financial assistance to families navigating pediatric cancer care.

Terrie added, “Today was more than a game; it was a reminder that community, compassion, and action can create a lasting impact. We are incredibly grateful to MMU for standing with us.”

Special thanks to all sponsors, coaches, volunteers, referees, and attendees who made the day unforgettable. Together, we are changing lives, one goal at a time. This amazing day raised over $20,000 to support the Michael Magro Foundation in carrying out its mission.

Fishing Raised Over $4,000

August 2nd was a day filled with sunshine, smiles, and the simple joy of casting a line into calm waters. The Michael Magro Foundation, in partnership with the Nassau County Police Anglers Association, hosted an unforgettable fishing trip for 10 families currently navigating pediatric cancer treatment.

Children from three area pediatric cancer centers, along with their parents and siblings, were treated to a relaxing day aboard boats generously provided and guided by volunteers from the Anglers Association. It was a rare and meaningful opportunity for these families to step away from hospital routines and spend time together in nature.

“This wasn’t just about fishing,” said Paul Magro, President of the Michael Magro Foundation. “It was about giving families a chance to breathe, to laugh, and to make memories that had nothing to do with cancer. Watching these kids light up when they caught their first fish was pure magic."

The event was made possible thanks to the generosity and dedication of the Nassau County Police Anglers Association, whose members provided not only the boats and gear but also heartfelt encouragement, support, and camaraderie throughout the day.

Parents shared how much this outing meant, not only for their children but for siblings and caregivers who often carry invisible weight during treatment. Many thanks to the captain and crew of Yankee 111 for a spectacular day!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, donations from the event raised $4,150 to help fund future family support programs, including more moments like these, filled with joy, connection, and healing.

This special day is part of MMF’s ongoing mission to support the entire family, as cancer affects everyone, and healing occurs best when joy is part of the journey.

New Partnership with Songs of Love Foundation

We are excited to announce a meaningful new partnership with the Songs of Love Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing joy and emotional healing to children through personalized music.

Through this collaboration, children supported by MMF will have the opportunity to receive their very own custom-made song, written and recorded just for them. Each song is tailored to include the child’s name, favorite things, and musical style preferences, creating a one-of-a-kind gift that lifts spirits and inspires hope during challenging times.

This initiative aligns beautifully with our mission to support the emotional well-being of pediatric patients and their families. Music has the power to comfort, distract, and heal, and now, thanks to Songs of Love, our children will have a soundtrack to their strength.

Together, we’re making magic through music, one child, one song at a time.
