School Supply Drive Backpack Deliveries
The Michael Magro Foundation was excited to deliver backpacks to various places this year. In total we donated 270 backpacks to Stonybrook Cancer Clinic at Stonybrook Hospital, Perlmutter Cancer Center for Kids, NYU Langone Health Long Island, Cohen Children's Medical Center, NuHealth Medical Center, NYU Hempstead Pediatrics, and SIBS Place In RVC.

We received all our donations from our amazing donors, Amazon, and Supplies for Success.

Physicians and staff in pictures were thrilled. Donating each year helps so many families and they are very grateful. The character backpacks are always a big hit.

The board of the Michael Magro Foundation would like to thank everyone who donated, as well as those who helped pack the bags.

The end of the fun summer means the start of a fun, new school year. Good luck this year!

Soccer for a Cause Raised ~$20,000 for MMF
It was a beautiful day to play soccer on Saturday, August 5th! This was our 16th year for our annual tournament and we're still going strong. This year we introduced women’s teams into our mix. Tricia Devine and Julia Bentrewicz championed this initiative and were able to bring in a few teams to join the men’s teams. We had 14 teams competing in the tournament, some new and a lot of our dedicated teams returning for another year.
The energy at this event is amazing, with a reunion for some and the introduction of new players into the mix. A lot of networking between players and the organizers of the event this year. George Stamatinos led our sponsor campaign this year with his network of companies and the results were amazing!

We are so fortunate to have these energetic players, dedicated volunteers, spectators, sponsors, and the soccer committee from MMU to thank for this event raising $19,546 to help families of children diagnosed with cancer pay medical bills, rent/mortgage, utility bills, car payments, parking expenses at the hospital or clinic and much more.

Congratulations to Big Kicks and their coed team led by Julia for winning first place in their division and congratulations to AV Eagles this year's winning team in the men’s division led by Matt.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Starts Tomorrow
Next month is #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth. We understand that everyone has different ideas on how they can help. We promise anything you do to help spread awareness will make a BIG impact. Together, we can make a difference.

So, here are a few ways that you can help us next month or throughout the year
Donation to Child Life
Dawn, an MMF Board Member, had a donor who donated games and art supplies to Child Life at NYU Langone Long Island's Pediatric Acute Care Unit. Thank you!

LinkedIn Live on 9/13
We would like to invite you to tune in to our NEW LinkedIn Live Show on September 13th at 11:30 AM to hear firsthand from Nicole Almeida, Director of the Child Life Program at NYU Langone - Long Island on how the Michael Magro Foundation works in our local hospitals to serve children fighting pediatric cancer and other chronic childhood diseases.

Nicole is also an MMF Board Member and she has worked with Terrie to help provide a smile of hope and a moment of dignity to children and families when they need it most.
Bike Donation
Earlier this month, a donor gave MMF a Beach Bike to give to a young teen. Sharon Corrtsedis loves the bike and wanted to take it for a spin.

The nursing staff and social worker at Cancer Center for Kids Mineola, Nancy will be giving the bike to a lucky young boy!

Thank you to John and Pat for donating the Beach Bike.
Corporate Partners Needed
Look at our hospital partner footprint below. Through 18 years of working with dedicated donors, volunteers, board members, and committed hospital staff we've been able to partner with a large number of hospitals in New York State and beyond to serve families of children fighting pediatric cancer. We are expanding our corporate giving initiative and are looking to start conversations with the right people who can help us grow and help us serve more families in need. If you're the right person, please reach out.

Having a child with cancer is every parent's worst nightmare. Paul and Terrie Magro know this firsthand. In 2004 both of their sons were diagnosed - Marc survived. Michael did not. Since then they promised to be a light for others journeying down the same road.

Like candles, we're looking for others who can help us spread the light.

If you are interested, please email Dawn at [email protected] to start a conversation.
