A Message From Your President
Dear NESHS Colleagues,

This year, summer feels like it won't end, but I am not complaining! I know everyone isn't a fan, but one of the many reasons I love the warm weather is the amount of time spent with family, friends and colleagues. It's just easier to get together.

I recently returned from the annual Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD) conference in Chicago. I am proud to say that a number of NESHS members were presenters - Barbara Durdy, Karen Goyette and Todd Herrmann. The time spent with colleagues was tremendously valuable, whether a quick chat between sessions, a visit at a sponsor's booth, dinner with NESHS members or an architectural boat tour down the Chicago River. Sometimes we talked about work, but often we did not.

It takes time to build a network of meaningful connections, a go-to list of colleagues that can be called upon for advice or encouragement. Networking can also be tough and uncomfortable, because cultivating these relationships does not come naturally to all of us. But over time these strangers become colleagues, and many of these colleagues become dear friends. NESHS is a great place to develop these valuable connections.

With that in mind, I hope to see you at our October 21st Fall Conference in Framingham, Massachusetts with the theme "Are We There Yet? Navigating Our Way From Volume to Value." We will discuss no-regret strategies that can be deployed despite the uncertainly in our marketplace. It will be a great opportunity to learn and network before the cold weather hits!

At the Fall Conference we will also recognize our 2016 Strategist of the Year. We are pleased to announce that this year's recipient is Gail Costa, Senior Vice President for Strategy and System Development, and Chief Strategy Officer for Care New England Health System. Please join us to celebrate Gail's significant contributions to her colleagues, her organization, our field, and NESHS. Registration is open at www.neshs.org/registration_form.asp.

Best,

Susan Fahmy
President, New England Society for Healthcare Strategy

Fall Conference
Are We There Yet? Navigating our Way From Volume to Value

Friday, October 21, 2016
Sheraton Framingham Hotel
1657 Worcester Road | Framingham, MA

"What a looooong strange trip it's been...." and we're not there yet. But where are we in the volume-to-value journey? Our Fall Conference will try to give us a set of reference points that will help us make good decisions in anticipation of change, while maintaining our ability to succeed today. This is one of the most challenging trips we will make in our health system's history. Our speakers assert there are some "no-regrets" decisions to make even in this environment.

We're excited to welcome Jeff Goldsmith, renowned health futurist, who will provide his view of whether we're truly moving from volume to value, and what elements will define a value-driven system. We'll hear from Atrius Health's Bob Calway about their journey as a physician organization, and Tom Policelli of Minuteman Health about a health plan's perspective. Finally Caroline Piselli from PwC will provide insight into how clinically integrated networks are evolving and their regulatory implications.

Join us in Framingham for this important and valuable day. We look forward to catching up with you and hearing your stories as well! We need to learn from each other now, more than ever.
