Bookshelf Spotlight: Birds! | |
If you find yourself lying awake at 4 a.m. (as does Yours Truly), you may notice that birdsong starts, like clockwork, at 4:15 a.m. Phoebe, who lives under the roof overhang near the bedroom window, starts with her constant squeaky-toy chirp, followed soon after by various others. Soon there is a symphony of sound coming through the open window. Ah! Nature's alarm clock!

Join our weekly walking group
Thursdays at 10 a.m.
No registration required.
Meet at Twin Brook Recreation Area (185 Tuttle Road, Cumberland) at "the red barn/shelter"
We're a friendly bunch. Join us for a 45- to 60-minute rain-or-shine walk. We'll enjoy each other's company while getting some exercise. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water and rainwear if necessary. All ages and all levels are welcome. No body left behind.

Tai Chi for Anyone
Four weekly sessions: Thursdays at 6 p.m, beginning July 14 (july 14, 21, 28, August 4)
In the Community Room at Westcustago Hall/No. Yarmouth Community Center
Relieve stress, increase flexibility and improve balance with the practice of tai chi. Please wear comfortable clothing. No previous tai chi experience required and class can be done sitting in a chair if balance is a concern. All ages are welcome.
Louise Poppema is a trained tai chi instructor.

Fix-a-Bike Workshop returns

Registration is limited and required.
The Bicycle Coalition of Maine's Fix-A-Bike program returns to PML for a workshop that covers routine maintenance, roadside repairs, how to perform a basic tuneup, and any other bicycle-related questions you may have. Bring your own bicycle to learn and work on. BCM provides all the tools, materials, and instruction.
Six people (or six pairs, i.e. parent/teen or couple) will be accommodated at each session. Each can bring a bike.

Cumberland has a new author! Let's celebrate with an author read-aloud, cupcakes, and a craft. All are welcome (especially grandparents with grandchildren).
Old Friends, by Margaret Aitken and illustrated by Lenny Wen, is about a girl whose search for friends after the loss of her grandmother inspires her to go undercover and join the local senior citizens group.
Margaret Aitken is a Scottish writer for children. After studying medicine at the University of Glasgow, she worked as a doctor in the village of Doune. Margaret lives in Cumberland with her husband and three sons. Old Friends is Margaret’s debut picture book.

Baby & Toddler Hangouts
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
10 a.m. Age 0-3.
No registration required.
| Kids ages 0-3 and caregivers, come hang out in our activity room and enjoy all it has to offer. We have a play kitchen, dolls, puzzles, Duplos, a sensory table, and an art station. So much to do! This is a low-key time for both kids and caregivers to socialize and connect. |

Outdoor Storytime
Ages 0–2: Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Ages 3–5: Tuesdays at 11 a.m.

The Friends of Prince Memorial Library holds a book sale all year in the hallway to the right of the circulation desk. Great books (like new!) and puzzles for super low prices. We are always restocking the shelves, so stop by frequently. Proceeds benefit programming at Prince Memorial Library.

Accepting donations of books, DVDs, and puzzles
The Friends of PML gladly accepts donations of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles (up to 2 small boxes or 2 shopping bags at a time), which are in good to excellent condition. Items for all ages are welcome.
The following are not accepted: Encyclopedias, magazines, textbooks, Bibles, VHS Tapes, outdated self-help or medical advice books, reference, technology or computer books, books which are written in, torn, moldy, musty, water or smoke damaged.
Please do not place donations in the Book Drop as space is limited for patrons' items. Bring donations into the library.
