The Presentation of the Lord
February 1/2, 2020

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, when Mary and Joseph brought their infant Son to the Temple in obedience to the laws of their Jewish faith. This is a beautiful, and in many ways, mysterious feast; one that is filled with lessons for a stewardship way of life.

Our Gospel passage from Luke, recounting the details of the Presentation, teaches us a stewardship lesson through the example of St. Joseph and the Blessed Mother, the “Holy Parents.” Even knowing their Son was God, they still carefully observed the faith practices of their day, bringing him to the temple “to present Him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord.” Later in the passage, we read that, “When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to their own town of Nazareth.” The Holy Parents were good stewards of their child, teaching Him to live in obedience to the practices of their faith from His infancy and throughout His “growing up” years.

Those of us entrusted with the care of children, whether our own children, godchildren, nieces, and nephews, grandchildren, or students; have a vital role to play in the faith formation of these young ones. We, like the Holy Parents, must steward these children well, forming them in the faith by both instruction and example throughout their lives.

What a privilege and high calling we have as Christian stewards! Let us take these stewardship lessons to heart and present our gifts and our young ones joyfully to the Lord.

Consoling the Heart of Jesus
Session 3

The third session of the Consoling the Heart of Jesus series will be held on Tuesday, February 4, at 1:00pm in Room A. During this third session, there will be a group discussion of Obstacle “2” - Our Weaknesses, Sinfulness & Attachments and Obstacle “3” - Fear of Suffering, Again, focusing on pages 75 - 108 of the book.

Jesus, we thirst for you. Help us to thirst for you more. Use us, Jesus. Form us into saints. Make up for all our faults. We trust in you. With Mary’s help, we give you our yes. When we offer up our little sufferings, we’re giving consolation to Jesus. When we unite our suffering with those of Jesus, we have the further joy of knowing that grace and mercy is poured out on others. For, when we unite our sufferings to the Lord’s, they truly are redemptive. We're always stumbling and falling. We are to have the attitude of the repentant child who jumps into her father’s arms with great confidence in his mercy. This is what most pleases the Lord, that we go to Him with confidence despite, our sins, weaknesses, and attachments. When sin weighs down on us, remember Jesus’s love for us and the longing of His heart to forgive.

Catholic psychotherapist Deacon Dr. Bob McDonald provides a spiritual and psychological prescription for overcoming the sinful anger that poisons the mind of Christ within, causing alienation and division. His practical wisdom shows that only by learning how to forgive can we hope to promote healing and understanding in our relationships and enjoy the blessings of a forgiving heart.
