LOVE GOD. LOVE EVERYONE.

PRAYER
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

THE GREAT LITANY
MAKING A DIFFERENCE

SYMBOLS

Symbols are everywhere, reminding us of who we are, of where we are, providing definition to the world in which we live, even warning us of impending dangers. In our Episcopal Faith, we have the Cross, the Anglican Shield, the Vine and the Branches, and the Eagle, all of which hold special significance and meaning within our Episcopal Church. The Symbol of Inclusion above speaks to many in our community of faith who have been unwelcomed or shunned by others, even by other congregations of faith. Many within the LGBTQ+ community see it as a symbol of Gay Pride while others who have experienced the prejudice and bigotry within the church, see it as a symbol of Hope and Acceptance where they can find the Love of God and know they are accepted as beloved Children of God. How fortunate we are at St. Gregory's to be a beacon of Hope and Acceptance for so many. May this colorful symbol radiate and illuminate the power of Love in the Cross for all, "Transforming Hearts and Community through Jesus' Love."

ASH WEDNESDAY 2021

Lent was ushered in with new and beautiful traditions yesterday. Services were held throughout the day on St. Gregory's terrace and sanctuary as well as "to go" at Mizner Park and the South Beach Pavillion. In lieu of ashes, Fr. Andrew, Fr. Ben and Gena Vallee shared prayers, wooden crosses and wrist bracelets to honor the day, provide a rememberance and keep everyone as safe as possible. CLICK HERE to view yesterday's Ash Wednesday noon service with Father Andrew.
LENTEN OFFERINGS
COVID-19 MEMORIAL SERVICE
Sunday, February 21 | 6 PM Candlelit Vigil In Front of the Church

As the one-year anniversary of the onset of Covid-19 approaches, we pause to remember the loved ones we have lost to this dreaded virus. Please join us at the entrance to St. Gregory's at 6PM on Sunday, February 21st for an outdoor candlelit vigil which includes prayers accompanied by violinist Erika Venable. Masks will be required and safety measures will be taken. As part of the service, we are creating a digital memorial for those who have passed. If you would like to honor your loved one in this way, please CLICK HERE to add their name.
Donate Now to Called to Love and Your Dollars will be Doubled!
Three generous leaders within the St. Gregory’s community have agreed to match all dollars pledged to the Called to Love Capital Campaign dollar-for-dollar up to $570,000, between now and Easter Sunday. Match donors include Mark Hamister, Gary Paris and Nancy Stroud in differing amounts.
So, our challenge is on!
To date, we’ve raised just under $4.4 million toward our goal of $8 million from 88 people (approximately 15% of our congregation). We need to raise another $1.2 million in coming months to cover the costs of phase one of our overall campus transformation, and to propel us financially into phase two. Every parishioner’s gift matters, with no gift being too small or too large to attain our goal of 100% parish participation. CLICK HERE to continue reading the full announcement.

When asked why I made a generous gift to the Capital Campaign,
I answered with this quote
"Belief is strong, someone asked, and building His Kingdom
is the right thing to do with His Resource."

MUSIC
This week marks the beginning of Lent as we come together for Ash Wednesday and our first Sunday of Lent. This entire last year has felt like a long and protracted season of Lent unto itself. We've sacrificed normality and more importantly, human lives during this pandemic. Let us use this season of sacrifice to learn from this past year, and look for a deeper meaning into what Resurrection really means.

This past Sunday I was joined by Wycliffe Gordon and Magda Fishman as we recorded music for a virtual concert featuring Wycliffe Gordon, myself, and special guest Magda Fishman. This virtual concert is going to be spectacular and will include segments from two of Wycliffe's past concerts here at St. Gregory's as he welcomes gospel/jazz singer Dee Daniels and South Florida's own youth jazz star, Summer Camargo. If you didn't have a chance to see these concerts, now is your chance to see the very best of these concerts and to experience the magic of Wycliffe's electrifying music from the comfort of your easy chair! We will air this special production next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! You won't want to miss it!

This Sunday, we welcome Sam Cucci to both the virtual and in-person service singing the haunting aria by G. F. Handel "Vouchsafe, O Lord" from his Te Deum as we begin our Lenten journey. In the evening at 6 pm we will gather in front of the church for a special candlelight vigil to memorialize all those who have lost their lives to Covid-19. Joining us will be violinist Erika Venable. I hope you'll join us for this beautiful service as we offer our prayers and remembrances for all those who have died from this horrific pandemic.

I'll see you in church and online!

THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS
Wednesdays at 10AM & Sundays at 9AM
on Zoom

The Gospel of Thomas was part of the Nag Hammadi find in the desert of Egypt in 1945 at the end of World War II which completely changed the landscape of Christianity. It is 114 sayings attributed to Jesus that are like Buddhist koans - these compact little hand grenades for the mind that force us into heart-centered awareness and intuitive knowing. Join Fr. Ben every Wednesday at 10 - 11AM or Sundays at 9AM where we'll take this mystical leap into what many historians believe is most likely the oldest Gospel of Jesus that we have. Fr. Ben recommends the three translations by LeloupBauman, or Pagles. Having a diversity of translations will only enrich our discussion. CLICK HERE for the Zoom Meeting Link.
