PRAYER
O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
CONFIRMATION SUNDAY
|
|
This past Sunday was Confirmation Sunday where the Bishop confirmed, received, and re-affirmed over 40 people in his first visit in three years! It was a glorious service where we all got to renew our baptismal vows, testifying to what life in Christ looks like when it is lived. So often we can get stuck in the static belief system of religion instead of the spiritual dynamism of trust. What a joy it was to see so many people commit and recommit – their lives – to walking in love as Christ loves us. May we collectively hold each other to that fire as witnesses to what the body of Christ looks like when we live it from the inside-out.
Bless you all!
Fr. Ben+
The Rev. Benjamin Thomas, Associate Rector

MASK POLICY UPDATE
Our Covid Advisory Committee, with the consent of our Vestry, has approved moving to a “masks optional” policy for our worship and for all gatherings on our campus.
Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the guidelines established by the diocese, the insights of the CDC and other health officials, and Jesus’ commandment to love and care for each other. As we’ve continued our prayers, received new directives from the diocese, and taken note of the recently revised CDC guidelines, we have determined this is the proper time to loosen our current restrictions.
In addition, other changes include:
• Restoring open seating in the main nave section. For the time being, we will still offer an option for social distancing in St. Mary’s Chapel and the “Family Section” located in the transept on the south side of the main altar. In these sections, every other pew will be designated for seating.
• Returning to receiving Holy Communion and the chalice at the altar. CLICK HERE to view Fr. Andrew's video update which includes an overview of Holy Week and Easter as well as more information on taking the chalice at the altar.
• We have removed cushions around the altar rail to encourage safe distancing at the altar.
If you are feeling unwell or are out of the area, we invite you to view our online services on our Facebook page by clicking here. We thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation at this time.

A MESSAGE FROM TIM
This Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday and we will be singing one of the most beautiful hymns in our hymnal, The King of Love, My Shepherd is, for the Psalm. The words are a paraphrase of Psalm 23 by Henry Baker (1821-1877) and the tune is the familiar and much-loved Irish tune, St. Columba. This beautiful Irish folk melody was first published in 1855 by George Petrie and was re-published by Charles Villiers Stanford in a collection of Petrie’s tunes which he compiled later. It was first paired with Baker’s words in 1906 for the dedication of a chapel in County Londonderry. St. Columba was an Irish Abbot (12/7/521-6/9/597) who was a missionary responsible for spreading Christianity to what is today known as Scotland. He is the patron saint of Derry and is known as a Catholic saint and one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.
While I was Cathedral Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, I would often sit inside the beautiful Chapel of St. Columba, one of the seven Chapels of the Tongues, and meditate on its simple beauty which comprised of three mosaic Celtic crosses fashioned by Louis Comfort Tiffany which are above the altar on the ceiling. If you’re ever in New York, stop by and see the Chapel of St. Columba at the cathedral.
Norma Jenkins will be Guest Organist these next two Sundays as I will be out of town.
Our last Evensong of the season will be May 29th at 5 pm. I hope you’ll mark this on your calendar now!
Peace to all,
Tim

GOSPEL OF THOMAS CIRCLE
WITH FR. BEN
Join our Gospel of Thomas Circle on Wednesdays at 10 am and Sundays at 9:10 am. The Gospel of Thomas was part of the Nag Hammadi find in the desert of Egypt in 1945 at the end of World War II which completely changed the landscape of Christianity. It is 114 sayings attributed to Jesus that are like Buddhist koans - these compact little hand grenades for the mind that force us into heart-centered awareness and intuitive knowing. Join us every Sunday at 9 am where we'll take this mystical leap into what many historians believe is most likely the oldest Gospel of Jesus that we have. I recommend these three translations by Leloup, Bauman, or Pagles. Having a diversity of translations will only enrich our discussion.
