LOVE GOD. LOVE EVERYONE.

PRAYER

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.
The Reverend Andrew J. Sherman will be preaching on Sunday at the 10AM service and the Gospel reading is JOHN 14:8-17; 25-27

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
CONFIRMATION CLASS
This past month ten young people were presented to the Bishop for Confirmation, the sacramental rite that strengthens and renews the faith of our young people as they enter into adulthood as disciples of Jesus Christ. The anointing with oil and the laying on of hands by our bishop are the outward and visible signs of the inward and spiritual grace of the Holy Spirit filling the lives of our youth in life-giving, life-guiding ways. As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost and the outpouring of the Spirit upon all the followers of Jesus, it seems fitting that our newly confirmed members will help lead our worship on Sunday. In the sermon, you will hear some of their words from reflections that they wrote about the meaning of Confirmation. At the 10 am service, select members of the class will lead the Prayers of the People. Please join me in praying for the continuing outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our children and youth at St. Gregory's. Come, Holy Spirit, Come!

In Christ,
Fr. Andrew+

Please stop by and see us on Sunday, June 5, from 9-noon as we wrap up the 2021-2022 season.

We are closing our doors through the summer. A big thank you to our dedicated volunteers with a special thank you to Lynne Remy, Maggie Brockman, and Susan D’Ambrosio who among other things, help receive donations, cleaned and priced merchandise, and greeted our customers with a smile! And, of course, a big thanks to all who provided donations enabling our ministry’s continued success.

DONATIONS:  Speaking of donations, although we will be closed for the summer, we will continue to accept your generous donations. Simply drop your things off at the church office during office hours.  Thanks again and see you in the fall!
MASK POLICY UPDATE

Our Covid Advisory Committee, with the consent of our Vestry, has approved moving to a “masks optional” policy for our worship and for all gatherings on our campus.

Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the guidelines established by the diocese, the insights of the CDC and other health officials, and Jesus’ commandment to love and care for each other. As we’ve continued our prayers, received new directives from the diocese, and taken note of the recently revised CDC guidelines, we have determined this is the proper time to loosen our current restrictions.

In addition, other changes include:

• Restoring open seating in the main nave section. For the time being, we will still offer an option for social distancing in St. Mary’s Chapel and the “Family Section” located in the transept on the south side of the main altar. In these sections, every other pew will be designated for seating.

• Returning to receiving Holy Communion and the chalice at the altar. CLICK HERE to view Fr. Andrew's video update which includes an overview of Holy Week and Easter as well as more information on taking the chalice at the altar.

• We have removed cushions around the altar rail to encourage safe distancing at the altar.

If you are feeling unwell or are out of the area, we invite you to view our online services on our Facebook page by clicking here. We thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation at this time.

MUSIC
A MESSAGE FROM TIM

This Sunday is the Day of Pentecost! It’s difficult to believe that it’s here already! So much has transpired these last few months from on-again, off-again duty for the choir due to Covid restrictions, to roof repairs, to being without the organ, being without air conditioning, and dealing with water damage from collapsed ceilings. Through it all, we have continued to persevere as we held worship services, funerals, memorials, and even weddings. We have kept the faith and the Spirit of the Lord has truly been with us and in this place.

I want to thank the Choir of St. Gregory’s for an absolutely splendid service of Evensong this past Sunday and for their continued steadfast dedication to the church, bringing choral excellence to every service of worship. This Spring we welcomed members of The Girl Choir of South Florida and The Florida Singing Sons as part of an exciting new partnership with these superb organizations which foster musical excellence and education for the youth of this area. Their presence has added a fresh dimension to the choir and their dedication and beautiful singing have been a blessing to choir members and to me.

This Sunday will be the final Sunday for the full choir’s participation in our 10 am worship as they take a break from services during the summer. I know you join me in thanking each member for their hard work this season as they’ve lifted their voices to the glory of God bringing beautiful music to our worship.

Next week, we lay to rest two former choir members, Edie Moore and Joe Kuntz. Their love for the choir and music at St. Gregory’s continues to sustain us and bless us. Our prayers for peace and comfort are with their families.

I’ll see you in church and online!

Blessings to all,
Tim

CLASSES & FORMATION
GOSPEL OF THOMAS CIRCLE
WITH FR. BEN

Join our Gospel of Thomas Circle on Wednesdays at 10 am and Sundays at 9:10 am. The Gospel of Thomas was part of the Nag Hammadi find in the desert of Egypt in 1945 at the end of World War II which completely changed the landscape of Christianity. It is 114 sayings attributed to Jesus that are like Buddhist koans - these compact little hand grenades for the mind that force us into heart-centered awareness and intuitive knowing. Join us every Sunday at 9 am where we'll take this mystical leap into what many historians believe is most likely the oldest Gospel of Jesus that we have. I recommend these three translations by LeloupBauman, or Pagles. Having a diversity of translations will only enrich our discussion.

A MESSAGE FROM SILVIA HALL,
SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL COORDINATOR

Dear Sunday School Families:

Our regular Sunday School year is drawing to a close at the end of May and that means Summer Sunday School is coming soon! We have had great success in the past with this program and look forward to having many of our children participate again this summer. Here are a few details:

— During the regular academic year, Sunday School children are grouped by age and grade. However, this changes with Summer Sunday School, where we combine classes; all children 3yrs old through 5th grade are invited to participate in our “one-room schoolhouse class".

— Summer Sunday School will run from June 12th to August 28th with a 9:45 am starting time. We will be using the same Godly Play Summer Program format we used last year: craft/activity, storytelling, and wondering time. Godly Play is a Montessori-based program that will allow children to learn Bible stories and traditions through storytelling, wondering, and play. You can check out Godly Play at godlyplayfoundation.org. You can also find videos for Godly Play stories on YouTube.

— We would love some help from parent volunteers! We encourage you to sign up for at least one Sunday. No previous experience or preparation IS necessary — just come and enjoy being with the children and learning about Godly Play! A sign-up sheet will be available soon.

— Questions? Please email me at [email protected] or call me at 954-254-5748.

Looking forward to seeing you in Summer Sunday School!

Silvia Hall
Godly Play teacher and Summer Sunday School Coordinator
