PRAYER

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

The Rev. Andrew J. Sherman will be the preacher on Sunday at the 10 AM service. The Gospel reading is

MATTHEW 24:36-44

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

PAOLO - GOD'S LOVE IN MOTION

This time of year I am happy to say that I receive many calls from individuals wanting to help the community by way of Meals with Meaning. Many folks want to donate food or contribute monetarily. Well, Paolo’s Pizza & Pasta did both in a big way!

Paolo has been helping MWM offer pizza to our community guests at a discounted rate for quite some time. However, this Thanksgiving he wanted to do something more to show his support. He sponsored an entire Sunday Meal! He could have simply made and donated pasta or pizza and we would have been ecstatic. However, Paolo hand-delivered chicken parmigiana, baked ziti, roasted broccoli and spinach, garlic knots, and a tossed garden salad!

Paolo wears a large cross of gold around his neck. It is one of the first things I noticed when I met him. Though we didn't discuss God’s love in our conversations, his actions are truly God's love in motion. As the guests approached the table for lunch on Sunday, they asked what was on the menu (as they always do). When they were told that a restaurant donated a delicious spread they were thrilled! Having Paolo cook, deliver, and donate the meal was, in a way, affirming that each of our guests truly matters greatly. Thank you, Paolo, for making such a difference.

WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP?

Stewardship is about being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God. The tradition of giving back to God and to the church comes from the Biblical practice of “tithing,” which means to give back a tenth of our earnings to God (Numbers 18:26). The Episcopal Church sees stewardship as more than simply contributing money to the church; it’s also about contributing time and talents and volunteering for ministry and mission. It’s about reaching out to build relationships from a perspective of abundance instead of scarcity.

Your generosity is Making a Difference at St. Gregory's.

ADVENT RISE & SHINE SERVICE

Sunday, November 27 at 10am

in Harris Hall

Join us as we enter into the mystery of the Advent season and rest in the wonder of hope, peace, joy and love.

Advent is the first season of the church year, beginning with the fourth Sunday before Christmas and continuing through the day before Christmas. The name is derived from a Latin word for “coming.” The season is a time of preparation and expectation for the coming celebration of our Lord's nativity, and for the final coming of Christ “in power and glory.”

2022 has been a busy and successful year for ECW. The Mother's Day Tea was a resounding success and greatly appreciated after a two-year hiatus, and the Fall Bazaar was a smash also. Consequently it's time for the ladies to get a little pampering. So our December 1st meeting, 6;00 pm, will include a catered dinner, a Christmas ornament exchange, and lots of socializing/fellowship, as well as electing a new president. Please bring only a Christmas ornament wrapped in a box or gift bag for our exchange. Please RSVP to Rebecca Sorensen by November 26 at [email protected] or 561-445-3251.

A MESSAGE FROM TIM

This Sunday marks the beginning of a new church year with the first Sunday of Advent. This is one of my favorite liturgical seasons as it is full of rich symbolism, expectation, and tenderness. We ready our hearts and minds for the receiving of something larger than ourselves, something that only love can explain. For, yes, true Love is what we are readying our hearts and minds to receive in all its glory, in all its tenderness, in all its simplicity, in all its fullness. Love comes to us in the form of a newborn baby, the purest symbol of love there is, the Christ child.

We will hear sung the great antiphon ”I look from afar: and lo, I see the power of God coming, and a cloud covering the whole earth. Go ye out to meet him and say: Tell us, art thou he that should come to reign over thy people Israel?” This ancient Matin Responsory utilizes the traditional Advent text and is normally sung at the Night Office on the first evening of Advent, however, we are using it throughout the season of Advent as the Choral Introit at the 10 AM service. Originally in Latin and usually sung to Gregorian Chant, we will hear Sam Cucci sing it this Sunday as a clarion call to begin our Advent season together.

As we hear Christ tell his disciples in Luke’s gospel “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour”, we will hear the Choir sing J. S. Bach’s harmonization of the hymn “Wachet Auf”. “’Sleepers, Wake!’” A voice astounds us, the shout of rampart-guards surrounds us: “Awake, Jerusalem, arise!” Midnight’s peace their cry has broken, their urgent summons clearly spoken: “The time has come, O maidens wise! Rise up, and give us light; the Bridegroom is in sight.”

We’ll also welcome back Ms. Susan Dodd as Guest Organist this Sunday for the 10 AM service. Flautists Ms. Lori Snow and Ms. Maria Provost will be the musicians for the 8 AM service. I’ll be returning for Advent II.

Mark your calendars, December 18, at 5 PM, when the Choir of St. Gregory’s will present “A Saint Gregory’s Christmas”. This presentation will include the beautiful music of Advent with a touch of Christmas music to get us ready to receive the Christ Child into our hearts this Christmas. I’m thrilled to have as Guest Soloist, Ms. Robyn Lamp. Robyn has sung with us several times in the past and its always a great honor and privilege to have her with us.

Thank you all for your continued support of the music throughout the year and especially during this beautiful season of Advent and Christmas. Your generous gifts make possible our concert with Robyn and all our Christmas Eve services which include guest singers and musicians. You truly make a difference!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all and I wish for everyone a very happy start to the new church year! Happy Advent!

Blessings,

Tim

CLASSES & FORMATION

GOSPEL OF THOMAS CIRCLES WITH FATHER BEN

Days/Times: Wednesday Mornings at 10 AM & Sunday Mornings at 9:10 AM

Location: Zoom (link below)

Resource: The Gospel of Thomas. The translations by LeloupBaumanor Pagles are recommended.

Join our Gospel of Thomas Circle on Wednesdays at 10 am and Sundays at 9:10 am. The Gospel of Thomas was part of the Nag Hammadi find in the desert of Egypt in 1945 at the end of World War II which completely changed the landscape of Christianity. It is 114 sayings attributed to Jesus that are like Buddhist koans - these compact little hand grenades for the mind that force us into heart-centered awareness and intuitive knowing. Join us every Sunday at 9 am where we'll take this mystical leap into what many historians believe is most likely the oldest Gospel of Jesus that we have. I recommend these three translations by LeloupBauman, or Pagles. Having a diversity of translations will only enrich our discussion. The Circle will be picking up with Logion 76.

"The Kingdom of the Father is like a merchant who had a load of goods to sell. Then he saw a pearl. The merchant was wise and sold his goods to buy the pearl. You too should pursue that treasure which is everlasting, there where moths never go nor worms devour."

Here's to pursuing treasures that are everlasting. The pearl of inner revolution. It's wonderful to be back with you.

SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Schedules listed here may be subject to change.

As we roll into summer, the rhythms of our schedule may change from time to time as our team members enter into occasional respite time with their loved ones. Please stay tuned for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Grace for all!
MASKS ARE RECOMMENDED

Our Covid Advisory Committee, with the consent of our Vestry, has approved moving to a “masks recommended” policy for our worship and for all gatherings on our campus.

Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the guidelines established by the diocese, the insights of the CDC and other health officials, and Jesus’ commandment to love and care for each other. As we’ve continued our prayers, received new directives from the diocese, and taken note of the recently revised CDC guidelines, we have determined this is the proper time to loosen our current restrictions.

In addition, other changes include:

• Restoring open seating in the main nave section. For the time being, we will still offer an option for social distancing in St. Mary’s Chapel and the “Family Section” located in the transept on the south side of the main altar. In these sections, every other pew will be designated for seating.

• Returning to receiving Holy Communion and the chalice at the altar. CLICK HERE to view Fr. Andrew's video update which includes an overview of Holy Week and Easter as well as more information on taking the chalice at the altar.

• We have removed cushions around the altar rail to encourage safe distancing at the altar.

If you are feeling unwell or are out of the area, we invite you to view our online services on our Facebook page by clicking here. We thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation at this time.

St. Gregory's Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry of St. Gregory’s. Stephen Ministers typically provide care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education.
