LOVE GOD. LOVE EVERYONE.

PRAYER
Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart [and especially the hearts of the people of this land], that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen .
The Rev. Ben Thomas will be preaching and the Gospel reading is Luke

FINDING COMMUNITY AND RECEIVING LIFE!
A STORY OF A LIFE TRANSFORMED

Fr. Ben has been co-teaching 33 MINUTES with The Rev. Elizabeth Pankey-Warren, our new adult formation series focusing on Richard Rohr's new book The Universaly Christ, for the past two weeks. And just this past week when they had participants introduce themselves a young woman in her 20s felt compelled to share her story with the group:

"I've been away from anything overtly religious for quite sometime, but I've been coming to your church for a few weeks now because I was introduced to this incredible community of St. Gregory's through Yoga Mass. To think there was a place in church in this day and age where truth seeking was not only allowed but was fostered has been life giving to me."

And we are honored to share that through the ever-surprising grace of God, we will baptize this young woman in the ocean during this Sunday's Sunrise Beach Eucharist, another Enlightening Hearts service, celebrating the Fall Equinox and the turning that God's Spirit initiates in our lives.

FROM THE RECTORY
AUTUMN BLESSINGS
August and September have come and gone in blur. The beginning of school, getting Sunday School started, interior painting at the Rectory, Anita and Susamma getting ready for an India trip, and prepping for Hurricane Dorian definitely kept us on our toes! Though we are extremely grateful that Dorian did not affect us, our hearts go out to the people of the Bahamas. In addition to prayers, we are also glad that we can send monetary help through our diocesan collection.

While the painters have been working, we have been working around them to host several wonderful events -- kind of tricky, what with everything off the walls, furniture moved around, etc! More than forty parents of Sunday School children gathered for lunch, prayer and conversation as we explored our common concern about the wellbeing of our children -- an invigorating start to our Sunday School program year. Next came a birthday lunch for Susamma with the St. Gregory's Gardeners, without a doubt a joyous occasion. There was also a tapas style Indian dinner for eight that we auctioned off at a South Florida Haiti Project fundraiser.

We also hosted a gathering for key ministry leaders as initial Capital Campaign plans were unveiled and discussed. And, at this writing, Andrew and a truly wonderful team led by Kay Holt and Joanne Stanley are preparing to host the next Newcomers Reception. Though Susamma and Anita will be in India for this, we know the team will have everything in hand. What on earth would we do without all the people who step up to make these events happen?! We are truly grateful to each of you.

So -- whew! Susamma and Anita would greatly appreciate your prayers for a safe and joyous trip. Andrew, Jacob, and Hannah would also appreciate prayers as they manage the household and care for our beloved pets. May our Lord guard us and guide us until we are together again.

Autumn blessings to all!

MUSIC
MUSIC & WORSHIP AT ST. GREGORY'S
What a joy it was to be back on Sunday from traveling and what an even greater joy it was to welcome the choir back to our 10 AM worship! This Sunday's Offertory Anthem, Treasures in Heaven,  was composed by American composer and organist Joseph Clokey (1890-1960) who was a graduate of Miami University where he also taught organ and served as Dean of Fine Arts.  Treasures in Heaven  reminds us of the peril of the rich man in this Sunday's gospel who pleaded for a second chance from the horrors of Hell. The Communion Anthem will be the beloved chorale  Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring  by Johann Sebastian Bach. This most famous of all his chorales was composed in 1723 as part of the cantata  Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147  (Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life). Bach’s use of the triplet figure in the accompaniment provides a lilting, joyful undertone to the beautiful and stately chorale. This work was originally scored for a quartet of solo voices, four-part choir, and an instrumental ensemble consisting of trumpet, oboe, violin, viola, and continuo.

I'll see you in Church,
-Tim
