Ask The Rabbi
Question: How does one prepare for conversion to Judaism?

Answer: The process of conversion includes a) the study of Jewish history, philisophy and traditions plus b) observance of basic rituals which include Kashrut and Shabbat. The potential convert must demonstrate a sincere desire to share the destiny of our people and a willingness to raise his/her children as Jews. The supervising rabbi makes sure the decision to convert is NOT related to the emotional connection between the convert and a Jew by birth (in case there is such a connection).

This is a Weekly Column where Rabbi Feldman will answer any question you might have relating to Judaism.  Please email your questions to office@bethelwpb.com

Patterns of Jewish Culture: Rashi, (1040-1105)

We learned that the first Crusade was a turning point in Jewish culture. We will see new patterns and traditions emerge as Jews migrate from the Rhineland to Northern France. Among those who survived the massacre of the Crusade and who settled in Troyes was Rabbi Solomon ben Isaac, also known as Rashi.

All are welcome to join us for discussion and video of this great sage of Torah and Talmud commentary on Tuesday, December 20, 10:30 AM in Senter Hall.
Facilitator: Faith Krasnow

Discussion Group: December 22nd
Thursday, December 22, 10:30am-12:00pm
Temple Beth El in the Rapaport Lounge
Facilitator: Bob Krasnow

"THE FEELING OF BEING WRONG"

How do we feel when we are wrong? We don't feel anything because we are on solid ground since we are convinced we are right!  We like to think everyone sees the world as we do, as we are accustomed to seeing it. Let's discuss how we handle being wrong and see if we can walk outside  the space of rightness.
