Message to the Congregation from Cantor Kramarow
Dear Temple Beth El Family,

I want to thank the entire congregation for allowing me to be your Hazzan Sheni and Youth and Family Programming Director for the last two and a half years. I want to especially thank the Board, Rabbi Feldman and Cantor Brody for their support and guidance.

As I embark on my new adventure at Temple Beth Torah Sha'arey Tzedek in Tamarac, I will look back fondly on my days as part of the Temple Beth El family.  I have enjoyed my time with each and every one of you and will always cherish the relationships I have developed over the last couple of years. I have always treasured my years at Beth El, as both a Congregant and as your Hazzan. I have great memories of old friends and family; I have made many new friends and I hope that the beautiful and spiritual music we made together will leave as lasting an impression on all of you as it has on me.

I am sure (and I hope) that I will see many of you in the future and if you are ever in Tamarac for Shabbat, stop in
and sing a bracha with me!

Always,
Cantor Jenna Kramarow

Ask The Rabbi
Q: Can you please recommend another book for us to read?

A: I have just finished a wonderful book by one of my favorite authors, Malcolm Gladwell. It is called David and Goliath and it was a bestseller for several weeks on
The New York Times list.

This is a Weekly Column in which Rabbi Feldman will answer any question you might have relating to Judaism.  Please email your questions to office@bethelwpb.com

Cultural and Religious Life in Ottoman Lands

The Spanish emigration of 1492 infused new vitality into Jewish life in Ottoman lands where they were welcomed by the Sultan Beyazit II. New centers of rabbinic and kabbalistic scholarship emerged in Salonika, Constantinople, Cairo and Jersualem as well as other cities throughout the vast Ottoman Empire. The town of Tzfat in northern Galilee attracted especially large numbers of Jews who earned their living in the manufacture of cloth.

A calamity of the scale of the Expulsion transformed kabbala of the Zohar with its thrust toward beginnings, to kabbala of the 16th century with its thrust on endings: preparing the world for the Messianic age.

All are welcome to join the discussion and video on Tuesday, February 14, 10:30am sharp in Senter Hall.

Facilitator: Faith Krasnow

Mazel Tov to our Febrary Congregant of the Month!

    Ivy Faske

Ivy Faske is proud of her Temple Beth El membership, and her family's early Florida and
Southern heritage.
Her mother's family immigrated to Tampa in the late 1800' s, and her maternal grandparents moved to Miami in 1910 (before there was a minyan) and were founding members of Beth David in Miami. Her uncle was the second Bar Mitzvah in Dade County-beaten out only by his cousin who was just a bit older. To better understand how tiny the Jewish population was at the time, Dade County consisted of the area that we now know as Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Her cousins were also early Jewish settlers in Savannah, Key West, Jacksonville, and West Palm Beach. In fact, her cousins attended services in the historic building, now known as the Yeckes Chapel, that was recently moved
to our campus,.

Ivy and her husband, Jack Mayer, live in Palm Beach Gardens with their beloved dogs Willow and Gryffindog and their cat Eartha Kitten. She is happy to serve on the Board, and is currently also co-president of Sisterhood. She especially looks forward to using her assigned congregant-of-the-month parking spot many times in February for all the wonderful activities going on at Beth El.

Camp Ramah

Fishman Youth Fund to offer $1000 Scholarships to Camp Ramah

The Fishman Youth Fund was begun in honor/memory of Rabbi Hy and Ida Fishman.  The purpose of the fund is to enhance activities for the youth of Temple Beth El.  The fund has been set up to provide two $1,000 scholarships to Temple Beth El youth interested in attending a summer session at Camp Ramah Darom and have them return from the experience motivated to take on leadership roles within the synagogue community.  In order to be considered, applicants will need to submit a one page essay conveying the reasons for their interest in attending Camp Ramah and describing how they plan to bring what they learn from camp back to our community.  They will be expected to become more involved in the Temple, and assist with youth programming.
Essays can be e-mailed to Moshe Adler at MosheAdler@aol.com, or delivered to the office of Temple Beth El, to the attention of the Fishman Youth Fund Committee.  Please include the child's full name, parents' names and an e-mail address and/or phone number where you can be contacted.
The deadline for the essay is Thursday, February 23, 2017.  Please note that applicants must be children of current members of Temple Beth El.
We are delighted to be offering these scholarships and look forward to your applications.

Please be aware that other funding may also be available through the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County.

Please join us at Friday evening services on Feb 10, 2017 at 7:30PM to hear the winners of the 2016 Fishman Youth Fund Camp Ramah Scholarships.   Andrew Weisz, Samantha Gelberg and Joey Gelberg will talk to the congregation about their experiences at Camp Ramah last summer

The Fund continues to be able to award these scholarships through the generous donations that we receive.  Those who are interested in helping the youth of our Temple by donating to the Fishman Youth Fund can send donations to the Temple office.  Please make checks payable to "Fishman Youth Fund".
