News from the Diocese

During this time at Trinity we will be blessed to welcome visiting priests as presiders and preachers for our Sunday services. In order for you to get to know a bit about them before they arrive on Sunday, please take the time to read their biographies.

Please Welcome The Rev. Dr. Nancy Wright

The Rev. Dr. Nancy Wright is a Lutheran pastor and teacher. Most recently, she served as Pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church, S. Burlington, VT for sixteen years, prior to moving to Seabury Life Community, Bloomfield, CT in July 2023. Her congregation developed the "Watershed Stewardship Manual," based on its work on Lake Champlain.

Pr. Nancy currently serves as Pastor for Creation Care for the New England synod of the Evangelical Lutheran church in America. She preaches and teaches congregations and pastors to address the current crises of a besieged Earth and threatened democracy and the need to re-experience the wonder of God’s creation. She has a passion for justice and creation care and believes that reconnection to nature can heal communities and re-invigorate the church.

Her degrees include: M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary, NYC; M.A. in Environmental Conservation Education from New York University; Doctorate of Ministry in Transformational leadership from Boston University School of Theology.

She is currently enrolled in the Graduate Certificate Program in Eco-spirituality at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace.

Previous ministerial posts include Program Associate at Earth Ministry, Seattle; Minister of Spiritual Direction, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, NYC; Founder and Executive Director of the Westside Ecumenical Ministry to the Elderly, NYC.

She has co-authored Ecological Healing: A Christian Vision (Orbis Books, 1993) and published articles in the field of Religion and Ecology.

Transition Update – Team Progress

We’re excited to share an update from the Vestry meeting held on Tuesday evening! Our dedicated team leads have reported significant progress on their respective committees, and we’re thrilled to announce that everyone is working diligently to achieve their goals within our timeline, set for completion by the end of February.

To keep everyone informed and engaged, we’re asking each team lead to make announcements and provide brief updates on their current status in the transition process. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our collective efforts and keep the momentum going!

Stay tuned for these updates, and thank you for your continued support and commitment to making this transition a success!

A NOTICE FROM THE PRAYER TEAM

At Trinity Church we believe in the power of prayer.

  • Your written prayer requests are welcome. There are prayer jars on tables at both entrances in which you are invited to place prayer requests. You may also call or email the church office to make a prayer request. During the week, written requests will be collected and prayed over privately. At your discretion, such requests can be placed in the Sunday service leaflet. Prayer requests will be published for four weeks, then deleted unless you choose to renew them by contacting the Parish Administrator.
  • Intercessors are stationed in the south (lectern side) aisle of the Nave during communion each Sunday. Please approach them if you desire a moment of personal prayer. All personal prayers will remain confidential

Run for Refugees: February 9, 2025

Kate and Drew Smith will again be running or walking in the annual 5K for IRIS (Integrated Refugee Immigration Services.) This event is a major fund raiser for the organization and all that it does. Trinity has assisted in resettling 3 families and IRIS was essential in the training of our group. We also wish to remember Anne Rapkin who was the leader of all of our work in this area.

Come join us on February 9th in New Haven or support us at: https://runsignup.com/katesmith

BIBLE STUDY

FEBRUARY 16,2025

Set aside time to join us for Bible Study following the Eucharist on February 16, which will be led by Rev. George Chien. The study will focus on the scripture lessons for the day, and will be an informal discussion.

These conversations provide an opportunity to delve a little more deeply into God’s word, and perhaps to consider the perspectives of others on what these passages mean to them.

Get a cup of coffee or tea and join us in the library. You’ll be glad you did!

GHIAA 2025 Initiative

Combating Racial & Religious Hate

  • "Broadening Understanding, Deepening Solidarity" (BUDS) is GHIAA's initiative to combat racial and religious hate. Our first offering is a series of four workshops in Spring 2025, to be followed later in the year by specific trainings on antisemitism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and racism. In our spring series, members of GHIAA congregations will come together to listen, share, and gain skills and tools for becoming active participants in the work of combating racial and religious hate.

  • The BUDS spring series will be held on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 pm, February 25, April 1, May 6, and June 10, at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace, 77 Sherman St, Hartford. Many thanks to HIU for co-sponsoring this series.

Book Group - March 7

Upstream, a collection of essays by poet Mary Oliver, will be the featured book for the March meeting of Trinity's Book Group. In it, Oliver contemplates the pleasure of artistic labor, her boundless curiosity for living plants and animals, and the responsibility she has inherited from the great poets, thinkers, and writers of the past, to live thoughtfully and intelligently. Book Group will meet on Friday, March 7th, from 7 - 9 pm, at the home of Martha Freimuth in Manchester. All are welcome to attend, whether for a one-time visit or regularly!

Please let Martha know if you plan to come; her email address is lems.cove@yahoo.com

What is Godly Play?

Godly Play is a wonderful way to tell stories of faith—Bible stories, baptism, church seasons, and others in ways that allow us to enter the stories as “children”, and discover the riches that are waiting there for us all.

The stories are told very simply with simple props and without interpretation or moral instruction.

After a story is presented, we work with the story props, or create whatever they choose in response to what they feel most important or most interesting in the story.

What’s up for the next couple of months in our Godly Play class?

Our list of stories in the coming two months (not necessarily in order) are as follows:

St Nicholas of Myra

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mary, The Mother of Jesus

Parable of the Good Samaritan

The Good Shepherd and World Communion

Parable of the Deep Well

Our students ages 2 1/2 and up are welcomed into our Godly Play sacred space at 9:45 each second, third, and fourth Sundays. Our classroom is on the second floor of the education building. We join our families in church at about 10:40.

Anyone 18 yrs of age or older is welcomed to choose this as one of your ministries; once a month or once every other month ,and bring more JOY into your life!

To comply with safe church guidelines we must have two adults 18 yrs and older in our class.

Questions about this ministry? talk to Nancy Crandall in person or text (860) 503- 3353 She looks forward to hearing from you.
