This week the Emerson had the esteemed privilege of hosting a forum with 21 invited fellow Gallatin Valley Arts Organization leaders. While the focus was on collaboration for our annual Give Big festivities, the collective message was clear. The arts are a critical component in a thriving community.
Thank you Big Sky Art Council, Bozeman Actors Theater, Bozeman Art Museum Bozeman Film Society, Bozeman Symphony, Compassion Project, Ellen Theater, Gallatin Art Crossing, Intermountain Opera, Montana Ballet Company, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, Mountain Time Arts, Mountain Air Dance, SLAM, Sweet Pea Festival, Random Acts of Silliness, Raison D'être Dance Project, Verge Theater, Warren Miller Performing Arts Center, & 406 Cirque.
Through the arts, the Emerson and these incredible organizations are offering opportunities for our community to connect, collect shared experiences and consistently redefine what it means to be human. It was an honor to spearhead a gathering of such brilliant minds and we are very excited to see you all again.

A Sense of Place | by Kathleen Rabel
|
“For many Springs, I returned to Penedo, an ancient village in Portugal, to work in my studio at Vivenda Santa Iria. There, I found angles of light, shadows and reflections in which I experienced a separate dimension of observation. Calçada-paved lanes, rough shadowed whitewashed walls, quiet people moving through light connect me to the sense of sanctuary that I seek in this work. The place and the spirit of the people who live there have clarified my vision of the human spirit that the modern world can obscure.”

The Hour between Dog & Wolf
by Martijn Caspar Swart
|
"As my paintings have developed over the years they have become increasingly both rough and sensitive. These are a recent collection of paintings throughout that development in search of a masterpiece. The greatest portraits capture the essence of character, the eyes like windows to the soul.”

Mythologies | by Martijn Caspar Swart
|
“The inspiration for these paintings are Mythologies which show us the most universal and deep-rooted aspects of human experience. It is how we remember who we are and what we are capable of. After all, the full breadth of humanity includes much greatness and much suffering, everything in our nature is sublime."

Bozeman Doc Series Presents: Wild Life
From Oscar-winning filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, Wild Life follows conservationist Kris Tompkins on an epic, decades-spanning love story as wild as the landscapes she dedicated her life to protecting. After falling in love in mid-life, Kris and the outdoorsman and entrepreneur Doug Tompkins left behind the world of the massively successful outdoor brands they'd helped pioneer -- Patagonia, The North Face, and Esprit -- and turned their attention to a visionary effort to create National Parks throughout Chile and Argentina. Wild Life chronicles the highs and lows of their journey to effect the largest private land donation in history.
