Delineated Daydreams

As a collage artist, I find comfort in the unknown - I explore this by frequenting thrift shops and yard sales. I search for books, magazines, brochures, and everything in between; flipping through their old dusty pages until I find an image that strikes me and inspires me to bring it into a new light. I feel that not all art needs to have a deep meaning, and most of my pieces come from that point of view, often with a touch of humor. I hope the viewer can find connection to my art in ways I could never imagine.

I am deeply inspired by textiles, shapes and protrusions that are unconventional to traditional collage, and have recently been adding these elements more aggressively following working in a larger scale. I want to bring a photograph to life, for the viewer to emotionally engage with the art in front of them, and feel the urge to physically touch (please refrain). By incorporating fabrics, gems, chains, rhinestones, and anything I can glue onto a wood panel – I find I’m able to bring people into my own imagination.

The two series on display are, in essence, created with the same basic concept in mind: Intuition, emotion, movement and their relationship with the process of making art.

To create these works, on both paper and canvas, I employ many different materials: Acrylic, oil, coffee, tea, pastels, dirt, graphite, ink, charcoal, chalk, wax, found papers and metals. Each has its own feeling and flow. Going forward I cannot imagine making work with just one type of media.

I employ all these ingredients in order to create works that express my subconscious thoughts and emotions. I create them with no preplanned motive beyond allowing my hand to move in the way it sees fit. Drawing shapes and adding colors as the piece develops until, at last, I feel it is complete.

In 2012, after having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester. The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with skepticism by experts and academics. The Lost King is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country's most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England's history.

Verge Theater Presents: The Gallery, written, directed, and performed by Julien Harris in collaboration with Sid Wilson

The Gallery follows the absurdist journey of a being experiencing self-awakening and the rediscovery of life. It takes a deep dive into how and why we get stuck and the power of art in order to open us back up to the world around us. It explores the relationship between the artists, art, and the audience as well as how all of these pieces are essential both in life and in art. 

Each show brings something new as each performance Syd paints live transforming the space and the minds of both The Being and the audience.

Whose Live Anyway?

The current cast members of the Emmy-nominated TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, are proud to present their new improv tour: Whose Live Anyway?

Whose Live Anyway? is 90 minutes of hilarious improvised comedy and song all based on audience suggestions. Cast members Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis, Ryan Stiles, and Joel Murray will leave you gasping with the very witty scenes they invent before your eyes..

The Crawford Theater will be full for both of these shows. Please arrive early to check in, get some concessions, and find your seat!

Mending the Line

Bozeman Film Society presents the Montana Premier of: Mending the Line

Filmed in Livingston, MT, Mending the Line is a story of a former marine suffering from physical and emotional trauma from the war in Afghanistan, his journey finding peace through fly fishing, and helping others.

100% of the raffle and a portion of tickets sales will support the Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation and their efforts to help post-9/11 and Afghanistan war veterans suffering from trauma.

Community Open Mic Night

4:30 PM - 8:00 PM

This incredible event will feature: an open mic night (with a special early spot for kids under 14), a headlining closing band, delicious food vendors, and incredible local artists. Join your friends and family on the Emerson lawn. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, shop local artists, grab some dinner, and dance the night away.

Summer Camps

The Emerson offers week-long summer camps for ages 5 - 12. Each week will include 2D, sculpture, and mixed media projects. Every camp culminates with an artist reception on Friday afternoon. Emerson camps are filled with innovative art projects that are designed to let your child’s creativity grow! 

Camps hours are Monday thru Friday from 9am – 3pm. No camp the week of July 4th.
