Autumn Equinox Party

Join us at The Community House to celebrate the first official day of autumn!
As Florida residents, we don't often get to celebrate the changing of the seasons.
For us here in Sanibel, we know the seasons as "busy season," "slow season," and "hurricane season." Although the temperature doesn't change much here in the fall, we do notice the nights getting longer and the days getting shorter. We notice school being back in session, and the steady return of our friends who summer up north.
Celebrate the official transition from summer to autumn at The Community House! We will have a specialty cocktail, live music, autumn-themed decor, party favors, appetizers, and Ivy may even turn the AC way down so that everyone can dress in their favorite fall clothes...
Please register in advance so that we can prepare the right amount of food and drinks!
Non-profit employees & interns can attend for free, but please call The Community House or email ivy@sanibelcommunityhouse.net to let us know that you plan on attending so that we can plan accordingly!

Beginner Watercolor Workshop with Paulette Boudreau 🎨

Join us for a lesson by Paulette Boudreau in the beautiful art of watercolor painting!
Painting with Paulette is fast-moving, encouraging, and definitely fun! You'll start by getting friendly with watercolor -- making swatches, playing with brushstrokes, and mixing color. Then you dive in. Your paper comes pre-drawn with your seahorse, and the palette is curated so you can focus on process, not guesswork.
Paulette will show you how to work with the water, not against it, encouraging you to loosen up and trust the magic. This class is perfect for beginners or for anybody who needs permission to play.

Join Jodi Cort's beginner-level macrame class to design a beautiful plant hanger!
Macrame is type of textile that is produced by making knots. There are various kinds of knots that can be used, and they can be combined in an infinite number of ways to create both functional and aesthetic pieces.
This introductory class will cover basic macrame knots needed to complete one plant hanger, which each participant will be able to bring home. Jodi plans to offer intermediate classes as well going forward. She hopes to instill an interest in this craft and a desire to continue to learn additional knots and patterns in order to create wall hangings, more advanced plant hangers. and unique pieces.

Iyengar Yoga🧘🏻♀️with Karin Stepan

Join us at The Community House to learn from Karin Stephan! Join the morning class or the evening class -- both cover the same exercises!
In these classes, Karin will use the principles of B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga to introduce students to basic alignment, improve posture, and create greater openness in the upper back, neck, and shoulders. Students will learn how yoga poses can be adapted to work with their own individual asymmetries, areas of stiffness, and patterns of discomfort or pain.
The classes are open to all levels, and no previous experience of Iyengar yoga is necessary. A variety of yoga props will be available and used as needed to make the poses more accessible and effective. Students will be encouraged to work in a way that is appropriate for their abilities. They will leave feeling relaxed, centered, and more deeply connected to their bodies.

Join us at The Community House for a relaxing hour of gentle yoga with Brenda Zechmeister!
Gentle yoga is an introductory class to yoga, using verbal cues to guide patricipants safely and easily into each pose.
The class will consist of a series of poses designed to address each part of the body, leading to greater strength, flexibility, mindfulness, and relaxation. Participants will leave feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Yoga mats will not be provided, please bring your own!
